Because Arthur Barrow's tone in the 78-79 tours was the best:

Looks sweet, will you be taking the statutory "new bass orientation" week off work?

Wouldn't that be nice!

Just noticed my copy of roxy by proxy is next to me too. Today was a good day for UPS.

Very nice - could do with a 5th string though.

I was worried the bass would be too heavy, with so many people saying the maple on maple batches were logs. But coming from a six-string.... the damn thing feels light, and quick. And for now I'm actually really enjoying not having these strings I've gotten used to.

And the neck, that neck is glorious. It feels like a P-Bass... but better.

The body feels like an SG does to a Les Paul, it's very thin, and even unplugged the bass has a lot of sound.

Been watching and rewatching the Passaic concerts and the Circus Krone video, Arthur on those is just incredible, love his tone.

So, you've had a few days with your Ripper now, have you retired your previous instrument(s)?

Not necessarily. They have plenty of practical applications. Or are you a drop-D kind of guy?

Its not just for nerds, its for girls too  .
The bottom string plays a low B. I bought it for a nerdy peter gabriel tribute band I joined about 18 years back, but I kept it for the thrash grunge band Dwarfthrower I joined after, and for the detuned rock stuff I did early 2000s.

Aren't the strings really fat?
