I'm ok with kids. Just not any of my own. Friends have some great kids, nice to have them over for a visit, even nicer when they all fuck off home and peace descends again. I've always known that I'd be a terrible dad and a worse provider so having no kids was a no brainer. Fortunately a view that my wife shares, admittedly with the occasional momentary regret. At least until she get to enjoy public transit on a school break... Hell, I didn't have any use for marriage either, at least until I finally realised that my wife was just rolling with it and actually seemed to need that institution in her life.

Almost had a 16 yr old baby a few years ago when a 16 year old one-night stand hunted me down on FB. The laughs my wife and I had while we were organising a DNA test... Yes, that is precisely how that went. Laughing, laughing and more laughing followed by hysterical laughing when the tests came back negative.

But a huge component of both our decisions to abstain from the parenting thing is the overpopulation thing coupled with a complete disinclination to have to explain why we raped their inheritance so shamelessly. Humans just aren't good for the environment, it seems.

I sometimes regret not having kids. I sure could use some help with these chores around here.

Hey Sam where you been.

Unfortunately, in my experience, by the time kids reach the age in which they could actually do useful chores, the effort of persuading them to do the chore is greater than when you do the chore yourself :|

Sounds like you have spoiled those kids.

I don't think so, really. They do what they're told, generally. However, having to tell them requires a lot of explanation. The elder one has Aspergers, so he requires a LOT of explanation, when doing anything outside his routine. When they were little they were too keen to help. Now they're teens...

He's old now, they're trying to bury him before he spends their inheritance!

Since my son's mom left, and it's just me and him. I made this deal with him. If he keeps his grades up, and is not out fucking around. I don't make him do any chores. When I was his age my life resembled a cross between Fast Times At Ridgemont High and Dazed And Confused, with some Over The Edge thrown in for good measure. As long as he's not fucking around, I let him just play his video games and practice his guitar. He acts respectful out in public, so I don't really think he's spoiled.

So that is why my eldest has taken to calling me "old man".

Uh, oh, it's too late Caputh, he's on to you. Hire a taster (or use a dog) if you wanna stay healthy much longer!
