This is momentous - what will it be for 100? It should an amazing release - Dance Me This, Rage and the Fury, or Uncle Meat MO? It should be a significant addition to the catalog. Any premonitions?

Although I do listen to his synclavier stuff occasionally - I hope its not that. I wantz me a full blown complete Roxy Film. I guess that's on repeat lately though. haha.

Since the Mothers were founded in 64, a 50 year celebration would be in order. Hopefully Mothers Day 2014 would see Making Of Uncle Meat, with loads of extras. UM is my fave Mothers release anyway. I realize this is fleeting fantasy-

Roxy Film may be around the corner, but it will not be Release #100. FZ films on DVD so far haven't been counted as numbered releases(see The Torture Never Stops, Token Of His Extreme, Dub Room Special). But, if Roxy Film is a CD/DVD combo, then it's possible.

This subject has been covered in the thread I started.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25743

Since they've been on a roll with '73/'74 material, a '74 Ten Year Anniv. Tour show would be nice - something similar to Unmitigated Audacity but with awesome sound.

Proxy is amazing, Road Tapes Helsinki is just wonderful, after seeing how the business is run at ZFT, I think it's sheer naivity to believe that something special will come ot as nr. 100. (and in time :-) ).

I hope I will be wrong. Anyway, I do not really expect nothing, anymore, ater all the promises. But hope for the best.

Uncle Meat Project/Object...

...or a full Beefheart Bongo era live show.

Same answer I gave on Fred's thread.

Too good for Bongo Fury! I would love to know where that entire concert is at - actually I know where (the vault), but what I want to know is WHEN?!

you see this all depends on how you count, when i count the releases it does not make 100 :-) yep some of you are going to call me an asshole etc but someone tell me how it makes 100? all the Old Masters box sets are music that was released before, so you surely can't count them? Shut up play yer guitar is 3 releases and then do you count the 3 Lp box? surely Mothermania doesn't count as it's all previously released music (with some minor differences), can someone provide a list on how this is counted because i don't make it 100 if we don't count previously released material. I will take all abuse thrown at me on the chin, but i just want to know what everyone else thinks because i still don't count this as going to be 100...

And for me nothing but Dance Me This will make me Happy, i want unreleased compositions, not all the different versions of the same things over and over again... sure it's nice to have but i would prefer unreleased music (Synclavier mostly)

Yes, the official count is distinctly inflated. If you look at the discography page, they actually show 102 releases. Three of these are repackagings that are not assigned numbers: the Shut Up box set, the Joe's Garage box set, and the LSO I + II combination. If I had my way, Have I Offended Someone and Understanding America would likewise not count as numbered entries in the discography. The Old Masters sets shouldn't count, but the two original Mystery Discs should, and the CD version would be assigned their two numbers. MOFO should count only once, not as two separate releases. I'm not sure if Greasy Love Songs should even count at all, since it's really just an expanded version of Ruben. It's pointless to count the Baby Snakes download, not just because it isn't a physical release, but because there was already a Baby Snakes soundtrack album, and this could be considered just an expanded version of the original. I can be generous and let Mothermania pass, since it really is part of the legend. And on the plus side, I would count the Beat the Boots sets, at least the two physical boxes.

that could be debated endlessly; define official release

  • shut up released as 3 single lp's one by one; x3
  • joe's g released as 1 single lp & 1 double lp; x2
  • lso 1 & lso 2 released as 2 single lp's one by one; x2
  • hios & ua unique material released on no other albums; x2
  • om1/2/3; close call, frank did not use the old master tapes, so they count even without mystery discs; x3
  • the 2 mofo's are different, no problem counting 6 cd's as 2 official releases; x2
  • 2 radically different ruben/jets albums, original & greasey; x2
  • baby snakes download is a fucking embarrassment; she's gonna come to her senses, delete it & next official release is #99.95; x -1
  • generosity on mothermania is not needed; x1
  • btb is unofficial; x0

Seriously? You'd give a double CD compilation that has an alternate mix of one track the same status as Zappa's original studio albums? By your logic, we'd have to count Strictly Commercial, the remixed Money, the CD version of Man from Utopia, the European version of Mothers of Prevention, and for that matter anything with a bonus track, as separate, new entries in the discography, and we'd be well past 100 already.

Even calling MOFO a new album at all is generous; it's really an expanded deluxe edition of Freak Out. Any other artist would have issued it under the original title.

The BTB sets were official releases, put out by a legitimate record company and sanctioned by Zappa. Calling them unofficial is a convenient fiction that gave FZ a feeble excuse not to pay out royalties.

a compilation put together by zappa himself & a 26 minute new track, this is a solid x1 ... seriously

strictly commercial was compiled by ryko, unauthorized, x0

remixed money is covered by lumpy money, x0

cd mfu/euro mop; same titles, count is x1

btb is unofficial material, fz sanctioned a bunch of boots off a list, didn't even listen to them ... 'feeble excuse not to pay out royalties' ¿¿ to the band ¿ fact ¿ x0

Hi,
So I am looking for this song of which I forgot the name... The song is to my knowledge never been released on a album. It sounds kind of like Filthy Habibts from Sleep Dirt. But only zappa and some other guy are playing the guitar, just jamming I always felt like, until the other guy screws up and Zappa asks him something like you messed up? And the other guy responds that it was due to cramp in his hand or something. They then stop playing.
Hope you can help?

I have no idea - maybe ZFT could make it the 100th though.
