I'm hanging out for RT#2 to arrive, I bundled it with my Roxy pre order, which, as we all know now was not the correct strategy......my delivery can only be days away now......

Music Today don't ship via Malaysia Airlines to the South Pacific do they?

I gotta say - RT#2 gives Roxy a real run for it's money - I might like RT#2 even more than Roxy - but it depends on what day it is. I LOVE that band with Ponty. Each one has its own awesome flavor.

RBP probably has got a bit more diverting "Dupree's", but RTV2 wins out in terms of "RDNZL" (monster solo + great instrumentation), "Dog/Meat" (a warmer, more analogue sound + great instrumentation), "Village" (unreleased intro folks, unreleased intro!) and "Don't You Ever" (Ian on bass clarinet folks, Ian on bass clarinet!)

I absolutely adore J-L but he can't improvise.

Nay, the lad cannot improvise...

I'd have to agree... he pretty much does the same thing every time... unless I'm just not knowledgeable enough to know he's doing something cool.

I've just recently bought it (yesterday!) - I have resisted for a while and to be honest on the first listen I am not to impressed

Nay, not to impressed

Okay guys, convince me.....!

Don't know what to tell ya. RT2 is just so good for me. I agree Ponty isn't a solo monster - but the whole band and songs are gravy. All kinds of badassery. Montanta Frank solo - Big Swifty - everything about it is just hot. You either dig it or well... I'm at a loss. To each their own gravy. hah

Now Joe, stop what your doing (unless it's THE MOVIE) and get going on RT#Three!

I feel the same way. Actually, upon first listen to RBP, I kept wondering, "Where's Frank? Where's Frank?" Not a lot of FZ solos on that release.
By contrast, the RT2 release features some smoking FZ work, especially Big Swifty. For that reason alone, I prefer RT2. More Road Trips, please!

Me three. RT2 is off the charts great. The guitar work is a whole other "era" for FZ. For me personally, I love the jams/solos. And no complaints from me on JLP. I find it refreshing. I haven't heard much of his solo work, so I hardly notice "he does the same thing" on his solos.

Post FZ ZFT releases.

Top: RBP
Runner Up: RT#2
Consolation Prize: EIHN

Wazoo is probably fourth.

I'm glad for all of the ZFT releases and there are gems amongst the others, but the above are the heavy rotation candidates for me.

JLP

Co-improvisor

Of Canard du Jour

I love Montana with JLP

Playing the exact notes of the

I'm pluckin' the ol' dennil floss section

Which the Ikettes had cracked in Bolic Studios

Right now I am digging JLP's precise interpretation

Even more than Tina Turner & co on Overnite Sensation

I think JLP's baritone violin is also present under the Ikettes, just mixed a tad low.

Canard du Jour is great, isn't it, the Zappa/Ponty duet that I really dig.

I wonder how that's mixed in the quad version.

I was wrong - a second and third play ensure improved robustness

Got RT#2 and Roxy by Proxy today. Two outstanding releases. Stellar performances, stellar arrangements and stellar music. Can't add more to what have been said already. These are just must haves!!!!

Monsieur Delire reviews RTV2 (amongst other releases by other artists) both in French and English:
