Great as it sounds, I have a stupid theory that the ikettes couldnt manage the im picking section - theres some 'pinky and perky' going on there IMO...
So maybe FZ slowed it down by half, they sang it and he sped it up for the final cut.
I even aint got the technology to try it, but anyone able to slow it up for a listen?

there is an interview where FZ speaks about sped up backing-vocals on overnightsensation and/or apostrophe. But don't ask me where to find...

Listened to this section at half speed and the voices at that speed don't sound like women's voices, except for the final "I don't care if you think it's silly, folks" where one voice higher than the others joins in.

Thanks cal - did you do that yourself? (If so, how do the sped up bits in 'oh no' sound??).
I found this old thread which goes some way to explaining the montana vocals. Probably somewhere between 1/2 and normal speed - variable too?

Sounds to be the case to me for sure.
I don't thing he would have to halve the speed though, he could reduce it by whatever amount he wanted in order to make it more singable for them...

Here is the section slowed down by 13%

Give me an idea of what you want (in addition to Oh No). As long as I don't run into trouble with Mikey or Gail. If so, I'll remove the links.

Just slowed down the ending bit of "Oh No" on Audacity by a minor third: that was probably how much FZ slowed it down for Ray Collins to sing.

It is quite interesting how Ray Collins was the only singer that ever sang the "And in your dreams..." lyrics at the original-ish tempo (he did sing "Oh No" live during the MOI reunion in May '70). Neither Napi nor Ike did so.
