Anyone have this? What is the footage quality like? I have read some very good reviews on the film but some people say it's a bit too long and self indulgent. Seen plenty of clips on youtube so I know the music is all awesome.

Probably worth it for Bickford's stuff alone.

Easily one of my personal favorite films of all time. Never fails to:
a) Put a smile on my face
b) Make me laugh
c) Blow my fuckin' mind

It does kinda feel as though it drags on (my copy runs 2:44:10, definitely a commitment) with the several scenes of backstage shenanigans/editing room weirdness/moments on the road/Bruce Bickford ramblings; they just feel disconnected and out of place to me (which I kind of feel was part of 'the point')

But silly complaints aside, the film is an excellent document of the '77 Halloween concert, and I think some of Bozzio & Zappa's most accomplished performances lie within (and on video no less!).

I just replaced my copy of Baby Snakes. There are some cracks around my old DVD where it attaches to the spindle. Here is a picture.

I replaced it because I was afraid one of these days it would not play correctly. And then it would be out of print, and I would have to pay an out of print price to replace it.

I inserted it in my cheap ass Philips Blu-ray player this morning, and it still works. If anyone in the continental US would like this copy, I will send it to you free of charge. I'll even pay the shipping. I make no guarantees that it will work, or how long it will work in your player. The inserts are all there, and in great condition. It even has the NO-D glasses. I will send it free of charge to the first person to pm me their address. However, this movie is not rated. I am making it publicly clear that if you are a minor, I am not responsible for your parents reaction to this horrible filth.

That happened to my disc of "Baby Snakes" a few years back. I also made sure I got a second copy.

I've watched Baby Snakes more than any other movie on the face of the planet. It first came out in an edited version on VHS tape sometime in the early '80's then the complete version (on two VHS tapes) came out a few years later. Of course I have had it on DVD since, what, about 2003 with the trailer for the impending Roxy Movie. A must have for a Zappa fan.

Who the fuck knows? Maybe there was a bad lot produced. The fact that it happened to two of us is proof we ain't crazy. Unless, you're calling both of us crazy?

Sorry. I wasn't trying to attack you, although it may have seemed that way now that I reread my post. I have no idea how it happened? I have hundreds of DVD's, and that has never happened to me before. My apologies if my post was a little caustic.

No problemo.
I was asking because I am aware of the problems with The MOFO Deluxe tough package, and the tiny little scratches on the One Shot Deal CD issue.
So I checked again my Baby Snakes DVD, but the box does not seem harmful and the DVD looks robust enough.
Whatever, as you said, this should never happen.

Depends on what you're trying to shove through the hole.
