How's "Call Any Vegetable" like? Is it just like the JABFLA-ish rendition they did in 2007 or do they actually use the studio version as a blueprint for current performances?

Not many "new" songs, but the performance in Syracuse was great. I was really glad they didn't play Echidna's/Wash for the thousandth time.
We should start a thread of songs ZPZ needs to play. I'd start with:
Sinister Footwear II
Alien Orifice

But, see those songs need marimba/vibes. Maybe with the money DZ made from "Wife Swap", he could hire Billy Hulting back?

Hey Ed, yes Call Any Vegatable is still like JABFLA, with the outro rap.

Billy is rehabilitating his shoulder. He had surgery. He said he's finally out of the sling and able to type two-handed.

That looks like a really short setlist. Are you (or anyone else) sure it's complete?

Hope it doesn't stop there: a brassy big-band edition of ZPZ could be potentially interesting!

It did sound very good. They ran thru it once but it's def not ready for the set yet.

As for the show itself I have to be honest and say that it was a bit lack luster for me because of 2 things.

1 - It was not exactly a set list that I am 100% into. Yes it had some some great spots like the COTL solo section was Carlos Santana Secret style. Was hoping they'd break into the She's Not There riff but it didn't happen. For me Apostrophe was tyhe show highlight. Kurt totally killed it.

2 - The second thing was that the crowd was boring as all fuck. Like a room filled with a bunch of geriatric old fucks ready to die! No responses when songs would start, very weak responses when songs would segue together and lame responses after most of the soloing except for Sheila's killer. Maybe the band was feeling that energy. It has to suck to look out and see a bunch of blue hairs just staring at you for 2 hours.

Am I reading these setlists correctly?

Have ZPZ now scaled their setlists down to only 16-18 songs? If so, considering the particular songs performed, that essentially means they're playing only 90-100 minutes per show?!

We are toying with a theme for 2015, not Apostrophe and not Roxy, obviously. A few albums being tossed around. Another more "audience choice" based idea where there is voting prior to the tour and the voted on songs all get played every night (there'd be 8 songs, and they'd be voted on in "groups" of song styles i.e. "the hits", "really hard shit to play" "songs the band has never played" and a 4th random group, 2 songs from each category.... something like that

You can't please everybody and respectfully, the audience that makes up this message board is small and very hardcore Zappa lovers, obviously. I was at the show in Brooklyn and I've seen the band play about 45 times and I thought it was my favorite set list. It was a hell of a set list for the youthful Brooklyn Bowl crowd, many of whom had never seen the band and they played a "hit" heavy show, or something. My point being, we all want to hear different things and it's impossible to have a set that every single person in the audience is going to be thrilled with.

They did the tour a few years back with Scott Thunes on bass and it was only west coast and it never came east and that set list was unique to itself. Dweezil put a comp of that tour out on CD, and it's great. I wish I had seen that show. I didn't get out there for those
