Did you attend the ZPZ show at the West COast BLues and Roots Festival in Perth?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

After flying to Melbourne from Perth in 2007 to see ZPZ at Hamer Hall I wish I'd flown east again to see a full show. Don't get me wrong what you played was as tight and Frank as ever, but to set up your show and play for an hour cannot hope to pay justice to what us fans and newbies needed! I felt sorry for you after coming this far and not even time for an encore. You guys ( and the amazing Scheila) are so proficient with the menu, just wish we could have had more courses......

A shame they didn't give you billing on the main stage, which is where you deserved to be. The setup time was unfortunate as noted above, but understandable.

Scheila Gonzales(sp), I have never heard of, but she was amazing and reminded me of a female Bobby Martin fulfilling the keys/sax/vocals role such as she did. Dweezil's guitar seems to have improved massively from the last time I checked in, I was very impressed with his mastery of the reportoire. Didn't notice any alumni but it was cool as everyone had chops- the drummer, the metal looking bass player, mr percussion/xylophone and the other guitarist chilling over by the fan.

Suitable selection of material and well played; what more could you want?

Inclusion of two Hot Rats tracks was a definite bonus :)

Thanks for the show guys!

Dweezil and Band,

Saw you both at Byron Bay and Fremantle. Thank you soo much for coming out to Australia to play Frank's wonderful music for us.

I thoughly enjoyed both shows, definately hightlights for myself for both festivals. If only I could see you in a side show band.

I dragged my brothers and a few friends to you at Byron and they were blow away but the genius of Zappa, keep playing and spreading the word of this great music.

Thank you soo much.

Oskar

Showed up at this festival to see zpz and i was not disappointed....every member of the band was great....prior to this festival i knew nothing about the band bar dweezil and schiela but all members were brilliant. Shame we couldnt see some more from u guys and maybe next time u come to perth (there better be one) u could play ur own show as i could see the setup was frustrating and very difficult to get to the ideal conditions in the short time allocated and during this time many people that did not know of this bands prowess left and missed out on the highlight of the day.

some songs i remember no order:
Im the slime
Village of the sun
Peaches
Apostrophe
Dirty Love
Pygmy Twylyte
Tell me you love me

thanks guys looking forward to another zpz show in perth :)

Many thanks to Dweezil and the band for making it over to the world's most isolated capital city!

Great grooves indeed but seriously shortended due to the festival format.

Saw Frank at the WACA in Perth in 1976 (unknown band at the time, Split Enz as support!) then Hammersmith Odeon and Knebworth in 1978.

Always a buzz and so was Saturday night.

Great to catch up with Billy and Jamie post show, and once again this proves how down to earth and ego-less you guys all are, although you have every right to be the opposite...

The slime was a sensational start and loved Billy's manic appearance front and centre.

Is it possible to have a copy of the official set list for the night posted please?

Take care and enjoy your break!

Mick, Pete and gang in Perth. (good night Perth, wherever you are!!)

At last after 15 years I managed to see some of Zappa’s music played live by a very, very good bunch of musicians. I was like a schoolboy, at the barrier singing along to all the songs, not wanting to miss a moment and hoping the show would go on and on. I had a big smile on my face for the whole gig and if my mate hadn’t dragged me away I’d still be calling for more now.

They played a tight set, mainly from the early 1970’s and there were so many highlights. I’m the Slime was a great opening number; Apostrophe – brilliant bass and guitar – some of the intervals on the guitar seemed huge – much more difficult than it sounds on CD. Dirty Love – great vox by Scheila.

But the best bit was Village of the Sun and Echidna’s Arf (with Don’t you ever wash that thing) - the finest 10 minutes of music I have ever seen performed on stage. The band were tighter than a penguins chuff and I was with them for every note- utterly fantastic.

Peaches en Regalia – a classic and again there is a lot to it live that you don’t see on the CD; the individual solos were great particularly some lovely marimba work from Billy taking the gig to a new place, Jamie’s shredding and Pete going off as usual on bass and a sublime sax solo from Ms Gonzales. And Willie the Pimp - great powerful riff with all the band joining in made this a killer finish to the show.

Basically everything was great and I could hear it all again tomorrow with pleasure. Of course there is so much I would have liked to see them play from various eras of the band but with 60 albums out there is no way they can cover even a reasonable cross section of material and keep everyone happy. There are songs I would love to see performed live (yo Mama, Cheepnis, Approximate and RDNZL for example) but I will just have to imagine them in the swirling cesspool of my own steaming desire- for now!

Thanks for coming out to Perth and come back soon!

Great to see ZPZ again in Perth after originally seeing them in Adelaide in 2007.The Band is as brilliant as ever and I could have listened to them all night but time was tight.
Spoke to Jaimie after the show and heard that Aaron is now writing film scores in LA-no surprises there-a great talent!
Looking forward to the announcement of the new singer/s ( Flo & Eddie maybe?) The performance did not suffer as a result of Ray's foreshortened absence- Sheila & Joe nailed them without a problem.I would be suprised if there is a better drummer than Joe around at the moment?-the amount of drum rolls is incredible in Zappa songs.
Agree with the previous post about the DVD which really does confirm that this band is as good as it gets! Can't wait for the next one to come out.

Keep the music continuing Dweezil.

Bravo Zappa.

Agree with about the concert's brilliance only hampered an interminable set up time. Like others the Hot Rats tracks were standouts.

Picked up a double CD in Japan that was recorded not long after Perth with essentially the same set plus a couple of extras, so it's almost like I've got a copy of the Perth (Freo) concert.

Like mmulhall, who I happen to know but didn't realise was there, I too was at the WACA in 1976 and had tickets numbered 1 to 5 bought from Ruth Tarvydas' dress shop in King St (sadly I didn't keep them). Also got a double CD of that concert which features a classic version of Black Napkins.

A man approached a beautiful woman in a supermarket
and asked her, “You know, I've lost my wife here in
the supermarket. Can you please talk to me for a few
minutes?” The woman asked him, “Why?” “Oh,
you know, because every time I talk to a beautiful
woman, my wife will appear out of nowhere!”

Mike was late for school. He said to his teacher, Mr. Black,

“Excuse me for my coming late, sir. I watched a football match in my dream.”

“Why did it make you late?” inquired the teacher.

“Because neither team could win the game, so it lasted a long time,” replied Mike.nike air max tn
