Did you attend the ZPZ show at Rockhal in Luxembourg?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Hi Dweezil and the whole ZPZ band!

The "Lux ... em ... burrrrrrg!" concert was great. Moving to the Club was absolutely the right decision. I really enjoyed the concert a lot and against my general timidity I couldn't help dancing. ("The beat goes on and I'm so wrong." LOL) I don't remember the setlist in detail but the choice of songs was so good that I never had the feeling that something was missing.

Many Frank Zappa fans are focussed on certain singers over the years. I admit that I also was sceptic about a new singer who has only had a week or so to rehearse. But yesterday Ben Thomas blew away all my doubts. It took me a song or two to get used to his voice but then I was just thrilled. He shared the lead lines with lovely Sheila Gonzalez about one half each. In Ben I see the potential to not only be a substitute for former singers. Give him the same practice as the rest of the band and he will evolve into a great Zappa interpret of his own. I wish him all the best and I would like him to become a permanent member of ZPZ.

To comment on the rest of the band: You all did a great job last evening!

The sound was very good. But there are minor things I would like to critizise. I missed the kick/punch of the base drum. It was almost inaudible. This could especially be heard in The Black Page #1 where there were holes whenever the base drum was kicked. With the attack of the bass it was nearly the same. From both instruments I could only hear the very low frequencies. So I recommend to pay slightly more attention on this. Dweezil's guitars sounded good but in my ears they were a little bit too prominent whereas Billy's percussion was a bit too low. But as I said the band sound was still very good (but not optimal).

I really hope you to come back to "Lux ... em ... burrrrrrrrg!" and I must tell all the people who still have to decide whether to come to a concert or not: Attend the gig of your choice, enjoy an extraordinary band and have a good time!

Listening to FZ for more than 30 years made me more than sceptical (or called it prejudiced) about the ZPZ project ...
Well, after yesterday's night I still prefer the Dad but I must say that the Son managed to REALLY impress me.
To my non-musician's ears the playing was highly professional and I think that the maximum abilities of this band, especially with this singer, are not yet fully used.
FZ's very personal kind of humour, in his stage behaviour and speeches, should, to my opinion, not be imitated/copied in any way - a small reminiscence here and there is OK, but Dweezil shouldn't do too much of it.
I finally appreciated the fact that Dweezil was no frontman - instead of putting himself forward he let the music speak for itself. A great Bravo for this attitude, entirely in the service of the music, which, incidentally, is the Best!
See you in 2010!

I am very impress by the music, you, your musicans on the concert have shown. Bravo. I know the music of your father for more than 25 years and I must say the music lives on. Now you have your mother and just peace with the ex-Zappa musicians to create with them and beside them Zapps music continues to live. That is certainly the meaning of Frank, I think it. Proposal: Plays all together at Zappanale in Germany. Thank you for the very good concert. We see us at 2010. Thank you also for your sign for my son Joe. Gratulation for the new front-singer Ben!!!

Please could any release the Setlist for my remember :-)

Ok, the first of four for me, this Tour the Tourism 2009.

After driving a 245 km I arrived in "Centerville" a former industrial plant with a huge 'melting furnace' left between some new buildings, Shopping mall, movie theatre and the hall.

The Rockhal is OK and the move to the club was a good choice.
Sounds great.
Security sucks.

Setlist: as the previous days, a few changes in order and replacing some tracks.
A secret word: L-U-X-E-M-B-U-R-G.

Ben is a good singer! and beatboxer.
The band plays tight.
Sheila aborted a Dweezil-solo.
Black Page #2 at 98%

(Billy the mountain? - not this time)

Hi all !
Been to the Paris show and this one !
Set lists include the same songs (almost) with a few surprises....

here it is :

1. Filthy Habts - segue
2. Bamboozled by Love - segue
3. Magic fingers - segue
4. Inca Roads
5. Cosmik Debris
6. The Black Page #1 - segue
7. The Black Page #2
8. Montana - segue
9. Village of the Sun - segue
10. Echidna's Arf - segue
11. Don't You Ever Wash That Thing
12. Lucille - segue
13. Outside Now
14. Pound for a Brown - Band Solos
15. Dirty Love
16. Peaches en Regalia - segue
17. Son of Orange County - segue
18. More Trouble - Token ending

encore :
19. Zomby Woof
20. Willie the Pimp

a brilliant show ! The venue was great, small, standing crowd which I prefer to the Olympia where everybody is seated.... but that's a personal point of view....

Anyway there's nothing more to add than all the good we can read about ZPZ performances over this board ; )

and once again Dweezil spent as much time as needed to shake hands and sign whatever was handled to him !
He also gave guitar picks ! Don't know if he did that to many shows.

We talked a bit to the new guy, Ben "Human milk-box" Thomas. I really liked his performance at the Paris show but on this one I think he was even better !
He fits perfectly in the band, he's got the voice and the humour that belongs to a Zappa gig !
'cuz, yes, humour does belong in music ! ; )

Can't wait to see them all, again and again !!!!

d.

S(alesman):Choose from this wall (points at wall full of pistols)
J: (points at biggest pistol) I want this, nike air max tn
S: An .44 Magnum? And for what purpose?
J: For shooting cans. nike air max tn
S: (points on smaller handgun) For shooting cans is the best this one.
J: (points again on .44) No, I want this one.
S: And what cans will you shoot at? nike air max tn

A man approached a beautiful woman in a supermarket
and asked her, “You know, I've lost my wife here in
the supermarket. Can you please talk to me for a few
minutes?” The woman asked him, “Why?” “Oh,
you know, because every time I talk to a beautiful
woman, my wife will appear out of nowhere!”
