Did you attend the ZPZ show at 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in London?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

I saw Dweezil last time he and the band played The Empire, and I was impressed then. I knew the history and what DZ wanted from the project. It was performed admirably and it did stoke the fires of my love for Zappa again.
This time around though it felt like this show was a turning point from just being a Frank Zappa tribute band to a new fresh dynamic Zappa band thats has been so missed since Frank left.
From the opening song Apostrophe', right through to Hot Rats in the encore, Dweezil had the respect control over the players, the music and the audience.
I have always like The Black Page, and to have it played this evening was great - especially with the ad-hoc ballet.
Cosmik Debris and Peaches probably got the best cheers of the evening, but for me Dweezil owned Outside Now, the solo was certainly his, not Franks.
Audience participation was great, and funnily enough I saw Noel Fielding and Diva Zappa, soaking up the music adjacent to me on the Level 1 balcony. Was Gail there too?
In all, a great night, DZ has made FZs music his own now, bringing in his own feel and flavour.
I look forward to seeing DZ again - please come over every year!!

A special gig. First saw this tour in a tiny tin box in Lausanne. Ben has really come into his own since then. Lots of unexpected
additions to the set-list for Shepherd's Bush, and an atmosphere reminiscent of the original gigs at the Hammersmith Odeon. Now you can talk about these gigs as being part of one continuum.
Took my daughter and her boyfriend along to this one. Now he understands! My daughter ended the evening getting photographed with Diva and running round taking pictures of Dweezil and the band, Gail Zappa and Noel Fielding. A night to remember for all of us!

What a fantastic show ! When I heard about this tour I promised myself I would get tickets - I'd bought the DVD and knew I had to go and see this spectacle for myself !
What can I say, you've all got it nailed - thank you so much for putting in all the hard work. For me Frank's music stands alone as a work of genius, my hat's off to you all being such brilliant performers and bringing it to life on stage. Awesome.
As you can probably tell from our reaction, we, the audience all loved what you were doing up there - right from the start you were in the groove and seeing you playing with that kind of passion is wonderful to watch and hear.
Please come back to the UK soon, and please, please, please keep to the smaller venues like the Shepherd's Bush Empire, it is such a great venue.
Good luck with the rest of the tour, looking forward to the next one already !

My 3rd time seeing zpz last night and what another great night it was.
i'm lucky to say i saw frank twice in the early 80's and can still get that great buzz from his music thanks to the efforts of dweezil and his fantastic band.
i'm so impressed with you all, you deserve all the plaudits going, but 2 things stuck with me as i left shepherds bush last night and kept me smiling and awake on the haul back up the M40.Firstly, the attitude of dweezil to his fans and the reception the band were getting, the guy looked so genuinely pleased with the feedback and boy did he deserve it. i swear having nailed the solo during inca roads he looked to the sky and said a word to his dad, and bet frank would have been smiling from ear to ear with pride back down at him.then, having made a handful of audience members fly as high as a kite by getting them up on stage to "freak out" he topped off one young fellas night by allowing him to play along on his guitar....he'll never forget that, lucky lad.
secondly, and i must say this and with apologies to the guys in the band... but how fantastic is scheila?????not only a truely gifted musican but an absolutley stunningly gorgeous woman to boot.i got my photo with her at the end (thanks to you all for staying and sharing some time with us fans) and blimey do i look like i'm punching above my weight!!
truely brillant night out and i can't wait for later and symphony hall...bit closer to home so i can give my 2 offspring their 2nd zpz experience.
sincere thanks dweezil and the band, don't ever give it up.

Great show guys, fantastic to hear Frank's music played for real...I took my 7 year old son (middle name Frank) along, his first real rock concert and to my surprise he stayed with it all the way (pretty much), he was especially pleased to hear Peaches.
My only complaint is you left it too long since last time!!
Safe travels to the band and crew and come back soon please..
Much love and peace,

Paul and Ed

I saw Frank as a 15 year old at Brighton in 88 so have been waiting 21 years to hear his music played live. I was not disappointed but don't want to wait that long again. It was fantastic to be amongst so many Zappa freaks. I'd come on my own as my friends don't get Zappa the way I do but within 5 minutes of being there was talking to people like I'd known them for years about all things Zappa. Great to see so many younger fans who never got to see Frank play but have discovered his music and eat it up with the same fervour as I do. From the first bar of Apostrophe to the closing bar of Willie the Pimp I sang, cheered and jumped around like a loon. Sorry if it was your feet I trod on!
The band was supreme. Schiela gets a lot of plaudits and rightly so but Pete's bass solo was incredible. I swear he never opened his eyes as he felt his way around his bass. Jamie sure knows his craft; he had me jumping all over the place. Joe and Billy too. Surely a special mention has to go to Ben. The guy's only been with the band for little over a month and he was great. He's only going to get better and I hope to see him again. And then there was Dweezil. Can he play or can he play?
The real highlights for me were Cosmik Debris, Zomby Woof and Bamboozled by Love. The crowd was great and I loved Dweezil's interaction with us. It was a great touch to get the two young fans up on stage with the other freaks for the encore. Memories that will stay with them for ever I'm sure. All too soon though it was over but I can't complain after over two and a half hours worth of Zappa.
But the biggest highlight came after the show as Ben, Schiela and the Dweez returned to the stage to sign autographs and talk with the fans. I still can't believe I shook hands with a Zappa but I have the autograph and the picks to prove to myself I wasn't dreaming it all. Dweezil came across as being a genuinely nice guy and truly grateful that we were there to see him and the band. He had a word and an autograph for everyone. An absolute credit to his father and the rest of the Zappa clan.
I'm so looking forward to seeing the band again. Please don't leave it too long Dweezil. I've got 21 years worth to make up for.

Thank you all for a superb show. We are all so lucky that you are able to bring this music to us, please come back soon. (It's a small shame that you didn't bring Billy The Mountain to England, maybe next time eh?) I was lucky enough to be at front, centre stage and took a few pictures which I'd like to share.

My name is Miguel and I am from Tenerife (the Canary Islands). Sorry but I have some problems with my english speaking/writing. I just want to say that I traveled to London for the concert in Shepherd's Bush and that I share with all of you my admiration for the figure of FZ.

Dweezil, you have got the top level in music (guitarist, conductor, leader band...) and -very important- you look an extraordinary human being (transmission, humility, patience, love at performance...). Congratulations, gracias hermano!

Sheila, maravillosa: eres una estrella del cielo, descubierta en la Tierra: Gracias a Dios (a Dweezil?) por la oportunidad de conocerte.

Joe, I had seen you with Ahmet, Dweezil, Michael and Brian by video (ninety's): yes, you were longer haired: You are a great drummer. You and Dweezil must be old friends: thank you for keeping the friendship.

Pete, Billy and Jamie, I saw you in a great mood: it's logical, because all of you express you like what you do: as if a I was seeing (watching?) Roy Strada, Scott Thunes... Ruth Underwood, Ed Mann... or Michael Keneally. Thank you guys!

Ben, my congratulations: well done, well danced (fantastic Diva)... I sung with you in your improvisation with the audience.

The boy and the girl (10 and 12 years old), you must be very happy: as Dweezil said, thank you for being the new generation.

Miguel.

I first see Frank at Wembley Arena in 1988 & its been 21 yrs since seeing the music played live again. Ive gotta say it was worth the wait! awesome show, Dweezil & the band were great, i,d seen the dvd so had an idea of what to expect but they excelled. 2 highlights of the night were hearing Outside now live, i love that song!! & shaking Dweezils hand after he,d signed my ticket stub. Hope to see the band next time round......................................
