Did you attend the ZPZ show at Vicar Street in Dublin?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

What can I say, this was the third time I've seen ZPZ. Brilliant set, brilliant performance, brilliant band.

"Inca Roads", "Caroline Hardcore Ecstacy" as always were fantastic but the standout for me was the rendition of "Outside Now", almost haunting.

Band were each fantactic but a special mention for Ben Thomas - as the new kid in the band, he fits perfectly - great work. And the wacky dancing during "Willie The Pimp". 'Nuff said - watch out for it on youtube. Someone is sure to have captured it on a camera phone.

Thanks everyone for a great night.

What can I say?!!?!!! It was my second ZPZ show and it genuinely, sincerely is an honour to see and hear a performance on this par.

I can appreciate that when you play x amount of shows a year that with some groups there can occasionally be the feeling that it's just another job but I felt that every player on the stage was beaming with pride and so happy to present these songs which they've made their own.

I was blown away by DZ. I suspect he may be a zen master of the guitar. I was sitting slap bang in the middle of the front row so was one of those geeks eye-balling his every move and trying to analyse it. After about 20 minutes I had to give up and just go with it. The man was cool as a cucumber and he really is an incredible ambassador for the old man. Saying that he's not a bad ambassador for himself either!

Fact: when he swopped guitars at the half way I noticed that (1) he's such a calm badass that he takes the time to flip the latch down on his guitar stands, (2) his shirt was bone dry despite the uber work-out (extra strong rite guard or removal of sweat glands? you decide!) and (3) he did float occasionally off the ground (may be potentially untrue).

Scheila, Pete et al are playing so tight these days that I was blown away by the solos and how easily everyone clicked back into the groove directly after each individual's party piece. Amusingly I think that they've become so fluid with the material that there was a magical air and spring in each piece. Ben is a great addition and I think that his good humour and attitude has really translated the lyrical side perfectly in the absence of Ray or Napolean.

It's the cliche but I hope you guys und gal come back soon. I know it's selfish - so little time, so much zappa fans - but I hope that the reception was enough reinforcement to make the journey. Hope you managed to squeeze the odd Guinness in there too...!

To be honest I really thought prior to the concert that Dweeze & Co may not have been as good as the previous time they played Vicars Street, as Brock & Vai weren't playing;but I of course had nothing to worry about ! The band were stunning - the song selection was brilliant ' Zomby Woof & Outside Now' blew me away but nothing prepared me for the audience participation bit of the show........beyond hilarious and beautifully choreographed !! Fair play to all participants - they were up for it - I almost choked on my beer laughing !

Ben is a great addition to the group - you would swear he's been with ZPZ for years - class act.
Special mention for Jamie Kime tho - his playing was utterly brilliant. He looks like one of those chilled out passive types that are 10th Dan Black belt killers in disguise !! Seriously talented dude.

All of them are to be fair brilliant musos and none more so than Dweezil. How you manage to keep such a cool demeanour playing such brilliant , technically challenging music I'll never know.
Finally I thought that the evening couldn't get any better when Dweezil hung out after the show and signed autographs, chatted with God knows how many fans and is a genuinely all round nice guy ( yes we can tell !! ) - icing on the cake - thank you all so much. Please get back to Vicars Street asap and enjoy the rest of your tour.

Slainte.

I saw ZPZ in Manchester on wednesday night, the Band where amazing. Unfortunitly for me there lacked an atmosphere mainly to the audiance and the venue!

But Friday night i witnessed a different atmospere completely, and i feel ZPZ did too. The crowd in Dublin were awesome and the band fed off this! Dweezil was really up for this one. He chatted between songs, told us stories, and threw in a few "irish" ad-libs in songs. Each band member excelled in their solos. Pete Griffin is an amazing player and deserves alot of praise! Scheila blow us all away. Joe looked in extreme pain during his drum solo, pushing himself to his limit. Ben stole Pound for a Brown with his vocal improv. Jamie gave Dweezil a run for his money with his solos. And i still don't know How Billy plays the way he plays!

Dweezil thanks so much for the two amazing shows i have seen this week. Dublin will always stand out as one of my favorite gigs. Please come back to Ireland soon! As you can see the word is getting out there, you just need to keep pushing it, and we'll help!

Here are a few pictures.

What a show. If Dweezil had given me a blank page and asked me to pick the setlist for last night, it would have been 80-90% the same as we got. Just fantastic - even a little hint of Grand Wazoo amidst the Pound for a Brown section!. Almost all the songs were from my favourite period of The Mothers, the musicianship was, quite honestly, the best I have ever seen in a live show and the atmosphere and reception for the band was first rate.

I missed the last tour and have suffered ever since with my fellow Zappaphile friend never failing to miss an opportunity to remind me. Thought last night wouldn't be as good without Mr Brock but, wow, Ben was so good I don't think anyone could have topped his performance. The rest of the band... it would be unfair to single any out since each was awesome... but, to be honest, give me a hot girl playing sax like a demon and, well, I'm in love.

Dweezil, I'm sure your dad is smiling. You'd definitely be in the 2009 line up of the Mothers if only Frank was still here.

My only disappointment? I spent the last week practising my chops on Magic Fingers just in case I got the call to the stage (yeah, well, you may laugh but we can all dream). Didn't get the call. The song on the night was fantastic though.

I suppose my real reason for posting here is in the hope that Dweezil will feel the love and make sure Ireland stays on the tour list in future. Belfast would be better though. Save me arriving home at 2.30am. Sober.

Keep the music alive, guys. There's no one can do it better. Thanks!

Loved every second of the show and the set list was fantastic. Was made even better when Dweezil said" You two guys get up here" for Willie the Pimp as we seem to be enjoying ourselves abit much and it must of looked like to Dweezil that we need to get cut loose of the seats (fantastic 3rd row seats they were to). If any of you wow was at the show got any photos of the dancing fools please post them.

Can not wait to see this band again!!!

Bit late posting this due to weird login problems...anyhoo.........this from the tall guy who told Dweezil that he saw Frank play live in Glasgow around 1976, and that Frank would surely have been so proud of his son on Friday night.

What an awesome performance!

Supremely talented musicians, superb setlist, everyone seemed in good spirits.
(Ben Thomas - you'll do for me, sir! )
It'd be unfair to pick out any of the band for special mention - THEY ALL deserve special mention. A group of people at the top of their game.

The setlist has already been well discussed, so I'll just mention that this gig just flew past - I couldn't believe how soon the encores came around, I was sure there must still be an hour to go!

Special thanks to the band for staying back to chat/sign stuff/ get into photos. I was a 50 year old man, starstruck at chatting to Dweezil, Billy & Scheila! Thank you so much for your time.

Please come back soon folks, we fans will be spreading the good word & I'm sure there will be many more ZPZ fans looking for tickets next time around.

Hi folks - yep, was at Vicar St. Exact same seat as last time! Right in front of Pete and Jamie; what a lesson in understated brilliance Jamie! I'm still trying to recover here, it was an [as expected] phenomenal gig, I actually had a pain in my face from smiling! Gee... what to say? Consummate musicianship, great atmosphere, BRILLIANT set-list - Thanks to Joe for giving my pal D his set-list for me, thanks to you ALL for bothering to treat us like human beings and staying around at the end to sign, chat and relax, when you come back again [you ARE coming back...right???] leave Dublin til last [again] and stay longer :o) I am constantly awed by Frank's music, even moreso hearing and seeing it played SO accurately and with such a swagger and with such love too, so THANK YOU one and all - We all know Frank would be proud of you. Nuff said!

[Oh wait, one more thing!!! - Did anybody else buy the ZpZ dvd-cd set?? I got mine home and... REGION 1??? What's that about people?? I can't play the f***er!!! Why sell Region 1 in Europe??
Anybody got any ideas? Who can i return it to now???? HELP!!!!!!

just trying to get my feet back to the ground tonite sunday after probably the best nite of my life when dweezil took the time to sign autos, pictures etc and generally chat to us mere mortals hanging around after the show, got signatures from all but pete and joe, maybe next time guys eh?i cant believe dweezil plays off 2(yes i asked him!)is there nothing out there this guy sucks at?he gave away picks, set lists and spent probably 30 mins doing so,can anybody ever remember a gig were the performers took this time to interact with crowd.i am not so sure the crowd was as rowdy as the last show in dublin in 2006 but that was probably because there were'nt as many from whitehead!(shame on you).please feel free to play in belfast next time(the new refurbished ulster hall would be special)as the beer is much cheaper here ha ha.anyway everbody else has said all that needs to be said about the performance which was magical and long may this musical journey continue although we must appreciate how hard the band must work to achieve this,so we cannot be too greedy.we met billy, ben, jamie outside the venue and it was fantastic to see how humble these guys are (respect).next time please take the stools away as there is really no need to sit!many many thanks for a nite i will never forget.ps i was the eejit who shouted for you to play sharleena so maybe next time?all the best guys and fine girl.
