Did you attend the ZPZ show at Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Well after 35 zpz shows starting in 2006, Tonight was wonderful. First, Frank played the mid-hudson civic center 77, 78, and 84, starting with flakes, 1977 and ending with lets move to cleveland in 1984, never played the bardavon. Nice place for a concert I might add. Show highlights for me, outside now from joe,s garage and king kong from lumpy gravy through baby snakes 1977 at the palladium. Now since 2006, dweezil is excelent, alot more at ease with us, his audience, pete, jaime, and joe have really grown,
sheila boy she misses arron. New singer fit in well, but, I for one really miss Ray white and Ike willis. I still yearn for at least one past member, perhaps tommy mars. And back to tonight, my only complant, and you know who you are, that,s right, the over 50 crowd, fat, bald, drunk, and I never saw so many of you getting up over and over again to take pisses, and, perhaps more booze.
Please, please, please next time dudes purchase isle seat way up top so people like myself don,t have to get up 127 times in 2 1/2 hours. I,ve got it, don,t drink, and enjoy the show. all in all a most wonderful night I can,t get enough of you guys, the core band, and dweezil we love you and please learn HOLIDAY IN BERLIN-FULL BLOWN.

YOUR #1 fan always, and, music is the best, see you soon.

Sat in the first row, with my son who was with me on Halloween (when I won the guitar and got to play with Dweezil and the band). This was a great show -- Sheila, Jamie and Billy certainly made up for Aaron's absence -- wish he (or a great keyboard player) was there, but the parts were covered. I like Ben, and his voice is great, but he needs to look more like Peter (scruffy beard, long scraggly hair) if he is to really pull off Bambozzled by Love etc - he is too much of a pretty boy -- he needs gravitas or the scuzziness of Ike or Ray or Nappy to go with the voice. I wish Dweezil luck with the Dream Theatre gig but I dont want to buy tix to see three bands I have no interest in just to see a short set by ZPZ. Are you coming back to NYC for Halloween - I'm keeping my calendar open. Loved the show -- wish I didnt have to drive to Poughkeepsie to see it. You belong in NYC as a solo act.

Another great ZPZ show in another great venue. Can't think of any venue in NYC that compares to The Barvadon Opera House. (Maybe Town Hall?)
Since there hadn't been any Dweezil blog post in over a month, I wasn't really sure who was still in the band. Was Ben still on board? Any new defectors? Actually, in this world of everybody knowing everything before it even happens, I enjoyed the suspense of not knowing who may or may not be in the band.
Band walked on stage at 7:50 and broke into an incredible Apostraphe. The Dweezil/Griffen/Travers trio ripped it up, with Pete Griffin's bass taking over the first half of the song. Joe pounding away, while Dweezil kicks in full tilt for the second half. The 3 of them did the original Zappa/Bruce/Gorden version justice! Certainly got my attention.
Don't remember the setlist, but the rest of the band joined them after Apostaphe'.
I do remember a rockin' version of Bamboozeled By Love, Outside Now was over the top, and the Inca Roads solo (as usual) just keeps getting better and better with time. All the guitar solos were long and solid. A great Village Of the Sun too. Band left the stage after Willie The Pimp encore at 10:10.

And what of the new vocalist, Ben Thomas????

I like Ben Thomas, I think he'll have a lot to offer the band over time. It took me 5 years to learn the lyrics that he's learned in about 2 months. He's got some big shoes to fill, (Flo/Eddie/Brock/Willis/White/etc.) and I respect the guy for getting up there and giving it all he's got. There's no doubt in my mind he's got REAL talent, and it would be everyone's loss if he didn't stay on as a full time member. I love all the old Zappa guys, but it's 2009 and time to move on.
The entire band continues to gel, and what a powerhouse they've become. Dweezil has mastered the guitar style his father pioneered for 30 years, and I know I for one will continue to follow these guys for as long as they're willing to get on stage.

Over at the Zappa.com NG Forum User Big B had asked of tales of between-song musings from Dweezil?
The MUSE of Conceptual Continuity spoken by Dweezil on this occasion was none other than
DRUM ROLL PLEASE ......"Mark Twain".

Absolutely amazing.
Great Sound and Vision.
2nd Row Lodge.
37' from the stage dead center.

They opened with Apostrophe (')
The band sounded fresh and had plenty of energy throughout the program.
Ben sounded very good much like I had expected where he theatrically performed each number possessed of a character.
Much like some of the youtube clips that give a glimpse but with so much more clarity, power and attenuation.

While many of the songs are quite familiar from previous tours the solo sections,
conducting sections and overall band continuity is quite different. ZPZ as a band
is so fine tuned, the solos, conduction and overall togetherness of the core unit sounds is
so amazing that if I were to die I know I have seen Zappa's music as good as it ever has or will ever be played.
Dweezil and everything about this band is on fire.

Even if we have seen many of these songs performed over and over the last few tours it sounds fresh and powerful.
The band overall sounded as good as any performance of Frank Zappa's music I have ever heard.
While to some extent what this band is doing in this current configuration may
be bringing Ben up to speed with the overall progression of ZPZ moving forward
I repeat the band not only sounds as good as ever but the music does not at all suffer from being stale like
Classic Rock Radio. One has to see the show and how it all flows. It's absolutely amazing and I am sure in time
they will premiere more and more new material.

I asked a few people on the way out , who I had never spoken to, what their opinion of the show was
and I was informed it was the best concert they ever had seen and this was from a group of guys
who had seen quite a few Zappa concerts over the decades. I specifically asked these guys
what they would tell anyone who would have any form of complaint regarding the current ZPZ
lineup. The answer was that the negative ones should "Roll Over And Die".

MY WIFE AND I SAW ZPZ IN WALLINGFORD CT THREE YEARS AGO AND HOOKED EVERY SINCE, LAST YEAR WE FOLLOWED THE TOUR AT GATHERING OF THE VIBES CT, HIGHER GROUND VT AND CLINE THEATER IN MASS THAN AGAIN IN WALLINGFORD, ALL GREAT SHOWS, HIGHER GROUND UNREAL DUE TO THE SMALL VENUE AND INTIMATE SETTING, POUGHKEEPSIE SHOW WAS GREAT, DEFINITLEY MISSED RAY BUT BEN DOES HAVE A STRONG VOCAL PRESENCE, SHEILA AS ALWAYS KICKS ASS AS WELL AS BILLY, PETE, JAIME, JOE AND THE MAN HIMSELF, WE ARE CURRENTLY GOING TO THE BOSTON, ALBANY AND WALLINGFORD SHOWS BUT ONLY FOR ZPZ, LIKE SEEING THEM HEADLINE, ALSO GOING TO HIGHER GROUND SHOW IN VERMONT AND WOULD RECOMEND ANY REAL FAN TO TAKE THE TRIP, IT'S WORTH IT.
FRANKS MUSIC IS THE MOST AMAZING THERE IS AND TO HAVE HIS SON PLAYING AND PERFORMING HIS MUSIC IS TRULY REMARKABLE AND WE ARE ALL VERY LUCKY TO HAVE DWEEZIL CARRING ON THIS WONDERFUL MUSIC, KEEP IT UP AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO HIT AS MANY SHOWS EVERY YEAR AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. ALSO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF DWEEZIL AND THE BAND WOULD BE WILLING TO SIGN MY GUITAR AT HIGHER GROUND IN AUGUST, REALLY WOULD MEAN A LOT TO ME. ITS A EPIPHONE SG OF COURSE, SAVING UP FOR THE GENUINE MODEL
