Did you attend the ZPZ-only show at Charleston Music Hall in Charleston?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

So id like to say thanks for the great show and the fantastic time that my dad and i had together. I'll never forget it. Please come back to Charleston on your next tour!

Does ANYONE know where I can get the chords to "Village of the Sun"? Even simple chords would be great. I cannot seem to find them on the net anywhere.

Thanks,

Wayne

PS: Please send them to waynekjohnson@yahoo.com

Highlights of the show for me were Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy, The Outside Now Solo and the Inca Roads Solo. YMMV.

I may have missed something, or put something out of order. But, for the most part, here is the setlist, as I remember it:

Apostrophe
Montana>
Village Of The Sun
Peaches En Regalia
Echinada's Arf>
Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?
Dirty Love
Magic Fingers>
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy
The Black Page #1
The Black Page #2
Bamboozled By Love>
A Pound For A Brown>
Band Solos
Luicelle Has Messed My Mind Up
Outside Now
Purple Lagoon>
Inca Roads
Cosmic Debris

Encore:
Yellow Snow (Short)>
San Berdino
Willie The Pimp
I Am The Slime

Man oh man what an amazing show. As a musician myself, the one thing I love the most about any Zappa performance is the incredible band that is assembled to play Frank's music. The show last night in Charleston blew me away......it was so nice to catch this single show from Zappa......not knocking Dream Theater, but to be a part of a 3 hour performance of Franks music, solely!!!!!....now that is something NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!!! I think Dweezil and the Zappa Family Trust have the right idea of keeping Franks music in live performance circulation.......younger generations need to have the chance to experience what Frank gave us!

Wonderful show at an acoustically great venue! The set list above is dead on. I was kind of surprised that more of the crowd did not know The Black Page. Dweezil had to concentrate very hard on page #2 to keep Ben from cracking him up. First time I ever heard the Bass solo performed on Cosmik Debris, it was very well performed. The special addition of Peaches En Regalia for what looked to be a 5 or 6 year old son of a loyal fan was very touching. We were sitting by him in the upper balcony and he got quite the thrill! Sorry that Dweezil "broke" his guitar during the encore but he made up for it in aces. Shelia has to be the hardest working women ever, 3 saxs, flute, keyboards, Kazoo, and vocals sometimes at the same time. Whew, I worked up a sweat just watching her. The whole band was outstanding and played long and hard as you can tell from the set list. Not a lot of the younger generation there, but I know the ones that were will spread the word of Frank. Please keep Charleston on your rotation in the following years. As you could tell those of us that were there are rabid fans and had a great time and a vibe I think the band could feel. Thank You All for coming to the Holy City and Kicking Ass with ZPZ!!

Hey folks,
Thanks for a great show last night and for your personal touch on our hospitality, both are greatly appreciated!! You made us feel very special and welcome, Thank you Very much!

Left hand from the heart...! Thanks very much for the excellent performance of "Peaches" as well as the shout out to Sol & myself, You folks are the best!!

Ben killed it on Lucille and in my opinion... made it his own. Rock on Ben Thomas !!

DZ moved me to tears-literally with his solo in Carolina (although I'm not english, I am very sensitive.)

Thanks again for everything (night after night)
I'll be seeing you all down the road...
Music is the Best! ~ FZ

First addendum to the setlist....

I remember hearing a distinctly "Waka/Jawaka-Grand Wazoo" sounding theme during one of Scheila's big Sax solos. I think it was both Sax and Bass, if not more band members, syncing up on this. I'm not sure where it landed in the show, but I have a good idea:

After discussing this with my friend John, we seem to agree the list should read:

A Pound For A Brown>
Band Solos (Waka/Jawaka Theme)
Luicelle Has Messed My Mind Up

But, I can't be sure. I could have been imagining the notes. Completely sober as I was, this music still makes my mind wander.

I wonder if the band has discussed a "Download the show" scenario like Primus, WSP, Phish and others offer. If DZ has kept with Frank's tradition of documenting everything, you can bet there is a fantastic soundboard recording made of each show. I would gladly spend $20.00 or so for an official recording of last night's performance!

.02,
Jay

I have been a Frank fan since '83 and have just about every note ever released. I never had the pleasure of going to a Frank concert, so I was damn sure not to miss this.

Without a doubt the best concert I've EVER been to!

I have the ZPZ dvd, and was a little worried that without Vai, Brock and Bozzio the show might not feel 'complete'. Boy, was I wrong! They tore Charleston apart! The crowd felt a little tepid at the beginning, probably because half of them had never heard any Zappa besides Valley Girl or Yellow Snow. By the end of the opening number "Apostrophe", everybody in the hall was hooked.

I hope this tour creates thousands of new Frank and Dweezil fans. By what I experienced last Monday, I can't imagine that they won't!

Please come back to the southeast as soon as you can!

P.S. I agree with Jay von. I too would love to pay for concert downloads!

Truly a very fine concert. Band was tight in the playing of Frank's music. Lyrics were all up to par. I surely hope that Dweezel and the band come back to Charleston.Music Hall was the perfect arena for this show.Crowd was excited in every song that was performed. Thanks for the tremendous encore, I should have come to the stage and talked to the band. Thanks again. Come Back.

Excellent show as always! I have driven from Savannah, GA all the way to the Alexandria, VA to see these guys (and gals). This was certainly one of my favorites. I loved the Zeppelin tease. The show started off strong and ended even stronger. It definitely left me with a smile on my face. I blasted Frank all the way home just to keep the show going in my head. I WOULD DEFINITELY SECOND THE IDEA OF DWEEZIL STARTING AN ONLINE DOWNLOAD SITE FOR LIVE SHOWS!!. I've got the soundboard mp3 show from Chicago for attending the You Can't Fit On Stage Anymore Tour and it sounds f*#king incredible. I would for sure pay 20 bucks or more for some more live shows.

Another note: I don't understand why everyone sits down during the show. I know it's part of the culture of the fans, but come on! The band is up there, playing their hearts out! Stand up, dance, nod your head, whatever. How can you remain seated when Dweezil is shredding like he does so well? I went to a show in Charlotte, NC last year and it was CRAZY (in a good way). Everyone was standing and dancing, bras were being thrown on stage. It was great! My philosophy - sit for movies, get on your feet for Zappa!!!

Thanks for coming to Charleston and keep coming back to the South

I thought the show was excellent. Having been in the Mid South during most of Frank's playing days, this was the only Zappa show I could attend, although I did see Flo and Eddie with the base of the Mothers back in the early 70's. Peaches En Regalia was like straight off the Live at Filmore East show. The addition of Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy was great, I only wish they had played Black Napkins and Disco Boy. Keep up the good work, Frank's music was ahead of it's time back then, maybe the time is now.
