Did you attend the ZPZ show with Dream Theater at the Tower Theatre in Philly?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

I went to this show mainly because of Dream Theater, but I do know a bit of Frank's music and I was looking forward to checking out ZPZ. Well, you guys absolutely blew my mind! I really can't come up with any other words to describe how awesome it was. I'm going to the Asbury Park show on Friday too, and I hope to catch a headlining show sometime in the future.

I would appreciate any help filling in the setlist for this show. I know they played The Purple Lagoon, Dirty Love, Pygmy Twylyte, Don't Eat The Yellow Snow and Bamboozled By Love. But there were several other songs too. I thought I recognized Inca Roads but I'm not 100% sure.

I attended this showing on friday I sat on the balcony second row dead middle seats where incredible. This was my first time at the tower and the first time hearing ZAPPA. I had always heard of the late Frank Zappa but never checked into his music. Now having heard some of it I want more. I really can't describe the music that i heard its more of a feeling that I have. Obviously having never heard any of the songs before I didnt know what to expect but I guess I would describe the music as world meets rock and it all just flowed together in glorious harmony from song to song. All the artists on stage seemed to really enjoy what they were playing they all had smiles on there faces which was nice to see,(it didn't look painful to play like some of these rock bands today). The acoustics of the Tower Theater are amazing and ZPZ really come alive.

However; having enjoyed the music I really feel that this group doesnt belong on this tour, to have BigElf before and Dream Theater after the sounds just didn't jive well with each other. I will without a doubt be looking for ZPZ in my area in the future, Thanks for a great show.

The Tower show was my first Zappa plays Zappa experience. I was always a FZ fan but I never knew how good Dweezil recreated his fathers music. Unbelievable. I am a musician myself, and I was just amazed at the quality of musicians Dweezil has with him. Dweezil is quite an accomplished guitar player. I had NO idea how good he is. I am a definite fan and will go see more of his shows.

I agree that Zappa plays Zappa should be a headliner show. This is an excellent band and deserves top billing. I went to the show for Dream Theatre but was happy to hear Zappa was going to be playing with them. After I heard Zappa, I was dumbfounded. That is some quality playing. I respect Dweezil doing what he is doing. As a guitar player myself, I put Dweezil right up with the top guitarists in the world.

i forgot to post after this show, but these were -- and still are -- my thoughts:

i was a huge Frank fan. i am now a Dweezil fan. what the heck is Zappa Plays Zappa doing sandwiched between BigElf and Dream Theater? it is an insult to Dweezil and his awesome band, to Frank's memory and to Zappa fans everywhere. nothing against the other bands: BigElf were outstanding and Dream Theater are legendary. but i went to see Zappa Plays Zappa, not a truncated ZPZ show. i will be very careful in the future to attend only 100% pure Zappa shows. (i must say that BigElf were way cool. my 16 year-old son and i hung with them for half an hour after their show. i'd see them again in New York Minute. but not as part of a musical circus.)

oh... and bring Frank's Little Italian Virtuoso along next time!

6 months later and I just discovered these boards.

I have been a FZ listener for over 30 years....and I'm 44. The first full record I ever heard of his was Sheik Yerbouti. I heard alot of his songs on the radio in Philly back when they would ACTUALLY PLAY FZ on the radio!! Why they don't play them now????Who knows? They should. But I did have the pleasure of seeing Frank at The Tower in Nov 1984. And I have 10 or 12 of his 60+ albums. I still have a cassette somewhere of his MTV/Halloween '81 show at the Palladium.
When I heard about ZPZ, I hoped that I would get a chance to go. And I finally did. I sat only a few seats away from where I was that night in '84. I was a little disappointed that Napoleon and Aaron Arnst were not there, and that ZPZ was not the headliner, but hey, I was HAPPY!! It was still a great show. My girlfriend, (who got the tickets as a birthday gift for me), had never really heard ANY of Frank's music. She knows who Dweezil and Moon are, Valley Girl, but she didn't really "get it" until that show. She enjoyed it thoroughly. She even liked BigElf. We both agreed the musicians DZ chose for this band are awesome. Anyone who has heard Inca Roads knows how "involved" Frank's music can be. She thought it was very interesting music, to say the least.... "How the HELL do they remember all that??", is what she said after the show. I just said, "Thats Zappa!" It's like abstract art!
Thanks!

A Soldier's Brilliant Idea

Mr. Robinson had to travel somewhere on business, and as he was in a hurry, he decided to go by air. He liked sitting beside a window when he was flying, so when he got on to the plane, he looked for a window seat.
puma chaussures He found all of them had already had been taken except for one. There was a soldier sitting in the seat beside this one, and Mr. Robinson was surprised that he had not taken the one by the window; but, anyhow, he at once went towards it.nike air max tn

When he reached it, however, he saw that there was a notice on it. It was written in ink and said, "This seat is preserved for proper load balance, thank you." Mr Robinson had never seen such an unusual notice in a plane before, but he thought that the plane must be carrying something particularly heavy in it, so he walked on and found another empty seat, not beside a window, to sit in. Two or three people tried to sit in the window seat beside the soldier, nike air max 95 but they too read the notice and went on, when the plane was nearly full, a very beautiful girl hurried into the plane. The soldier, who was watching the passengers coming in, quickly took the notice off the seat beside himself and in this way succeededin having the company of the girl during the whole trip.nike air max

A man goes hiking. he gets tired after a while and finds a cave to rest in he sees a shining light at the end of the tunnel its a magic lamp he rubs it and a genie pops out. cheap puma
The genie says, "I will give you three wishes but there's a catch, everything you wish for your wife gets double."cheap puma
So the man says okay. cheap puma
First he wishes for a convertible, the genie says, "OK your wife gets double."
Then he wishes for a million dollars, the genie says, "OK your wife gets double." cheap puma
Then his last wish is, "Beat me half to death."nike tn
