Did you attend the ZPZ show with Dream Theater at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in DC?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

You guys were absolutely incredible! I couldn't believe how individually talented everyone was and the show was fantastic. We picked up the compilation set afterwards - definitely one of the best live performances I've seen in a while! :)

Fantastic. I was lucky enough to see ZPZ in Pittsburgh on July 7and got the full concert then. I was thrilled to see you on the bill with Dream Theater, another band that I really wanted to see. But ZPZ was definitely the highlight for me. Great musicianship, great set list and a very fitting tribute to Frank and his music.

Well,
The moon was dim, the band was TIGHT!!!!!
I was thoroughly impressed with Dweezil's performance. Frank would be proud! I saw Frank play 8 times in the late 70's and 80's and I miss hearing his music live so much. It just brought the biggest smile to my face listening to that music Saturday night! Everyone just did a fantastic job, even the fast lyrics on 'Montana' were just excellent. The first band, Scale the Summit was really good and I really didn't care much for BigElf. I'm not a real big Dream Theater fan either. The only reason I went was to see how well Dweezil was going to play Frank's music. He did not let me down. It was just a great show and I really hope I get the opportunity to see ZPZ in a headline show by themselves. Thank you for an excellent show.

Did anyone happen to jot down a setlist? I'd had a little too much wine, so all I can recall offhand are: Apostrophe, Montana, Village Of The Sun, Purple Lagoon, Inca Roads, Yellow Snow, San Ber'dino, and Willie The Pimp, but I know there was quite a bit more... Fantastic show, as always. I was a few rows from the stage, further over in front of Jamie & Pete, and most of my attention was divided between them & Dweezil (and the lovely Scheila of course, when she stepped out from behind her keys), so between that and the wine, I don't think I'm qualified to comment on Ben as the new vocalist. I think he did chump a line during Inca Roads, but that's to be forgiven ;-). My feeling was he did quite well, and imo, with this band in particular, the vocals are not the instrument I come to hear anyway. Speaking of which, I think I'm gonna have to start traveling far & wide to see ZPZ in the future... Truly one of the finest acts in optional entertainment.

Btw, an earlier post here mentioned picking up a "compilation set" at the merch table - did I miss something new & exciting, or was that the cd/dvd set from 2006?

Cheers!

Some others I heard were Bamboozled by Love, Pound for a Brown and I thought I heard a little snippet of something from The Grand Wazoo.....?

I have to add also that I thought Jaimie's solo was absolutely brilliant.

Wowee! Zowee!
Excellent show! When i saw you on the bill for progressive nation i couldn"t wait. ZPZ and Dream Theater are two of my favorite bands.I saw you guys at the Birchmere in October 08.Merriweather show not as intimate as the birchmere. kick ass show . i truly enjoyed it. I saw frank once in the 70's.hvae all of deweezil's albums, not Quite all of Franks(maybe one day) I was walking out to get a water after the show. I heard a bunch of young kids talking about buying some Frank Zappa albums. Thanks Deweezil for carrying the messsage of your fathers music. You are doing a great job. Frank is looking down with a big grin on his face for sure.
See ya on the next tour!

Great show though way too short. I was handed a copy of the set list (sat next to sound board). Here it is:

Apostrophe
Montana
Village of the Sun
Echidna's Arf
Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?
Yellow Snow
San Bernadino
Purple Lagoon - Rhythmic Gymnastics
Inca Roads
Bamboozled By Love
Pound For A Brown - Band Solos
Willie The Pimp

Standouts for me: Sax solos and the new vocalist who was channeling FZ one minute and NMB the next - amazing.

Jack
