This was my third ZPZ concert... once again simply a great concert. This band is excellent, what more can I say. Being a Frank Zappa fan for more than thirty years, I love to hear different approach to the classic's of my youth's soundscape. The whole Roxy's Village Of The Sun/Echidna's Arf (Of You)/Don't You Ever Wash That Thing sequence was the highlight of my evening since it is my favorite Zappa album of all time. But I have to say that your versions are right to the point and somewhat quite different from the originals. Hearing you guys (and gal) play the music inevitably brings me back to the few Frank's concerts I have seen (76 and 77). Ben fits right in, what an great voice and a really interesting approach to the songs. Frank would have love this guy. Ben and Sheila do not try to sing the original singers and that's what makes your band so interesting nowadays. Willie The Pimp, Inca Roads and Dirty Love are really worth mentioning. And Zombie Woof... that was like the ice pick in the forehead... The more I see ZPZ the more I am thrilled by your interpretation of the music. The band sticks to the essence of the music but still plays it's own blend of Frank's music. Ben and the band are starting to drift away from trying to please Frank's hardcore fans. Having seen Frank twice when much younger and now enjoying a great part of his discography I really appreciate your rendering of Frank music. Frank Zappa had put up some real fine bands over the years and they were always at the very least very interesting. Always made up of fine young musicians that have all became brand names. Their versions of Frank classic's were all different to a point where I could not really say which one was my favorite. I still can't. And after seing a few of your concerts, yours became part of this equation. ZPZ is right up there with all previous incarnations of Frank's music. You have an understanding of what made Frank's music... all of it. Dweezil and the band, hope to see you again soon. Merci et a bientot. Mike, thanks for making one my dreams come true, my two favorite bands (I'm also a big Dream Theater fan) on stage in the same concert event. I really appreciated every seconds of it... it ended too soon if you ask me.
P.S. I am very eager to hear your band do their own originals. I think I'm not alone. I've heard some Dweezil stuff from before ZPZ and I really think you should record some of your own soon, at the very least record these versions of Frank's songs.
