Did you attend the ZPZ show at the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

The "Muffin Men" were in attendance last nite! I gotta thank Dweezil and the band for coming back to Charlotte again! We love Zappa music here and lasts nites show was better than any of the ZPZ shows we've seen yet! I wasnt expecting Ben. WOW is he good! And Sheila was hot as ever and killin the woodwinds as usual. Everyone in the band was A1! And another thing, yall always stay after to sign. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. To get to shake hands and get a picture with you (Dweezil), is an absolute, awesome experience. I really wish I couldve seen your dad. But I'm a younger fan tryin to spread the word about Zappa music and keep it alive! We love you all and great job!! Hope to see you in Charlotte again soon!

First of all, the setlist: *
1. The Purple Lagoon
2. Stinkfoot
3. Jones Crusher
4. Montana
5. Echidna's Arf (Of You)
6. Don't You Ever Wash That Thing
7. You Didn't Try to Call Me
8. Road Ladies
9. T'Mershi Duween
10. Keep It Greasey
11. Dumb All Over
12. Wino Man
13. Apostrophe
14. Miss Pinky
15. Inca Roads
16. Cosmik Debris
17. Willie The Pimp
18. Encore:
18. Yellow Snow
19. Peaches En Regalia
20. San Ber'dino
21. Muffin Man

This was my second ZPZ show at the Neighborhood Theatre, and they completely topped what was a stellar show back in 2008.

Ben is an incredible addition to the band. He has such amazing vocal range, and completely fits in with this band. I'll take him over Ray "leave them high and dry" White any day. The setlist was completely different, with only three songs played from last time, which makes me appreciate the attention to details like that. Although I would have been completely happy with the same stuff from last time, it was a real treat to hear this particular choice of songs.

Nothing at all standard about the show. Every song was done incredibly with no cutting of corners, precision, and branching out by the band at the most appropriate of times. I could only imagine the difficulty of the task of recreating the songs while staying true to Frank's versions. (Something which no other Zappa tribute acts could come close to doing).

My favorite part of the show was Apostrophe. I was completely beside myself the whole show, and am grateful for my body's natural ability to breathe. They played well over 2 and a half hours, and now I'm stuck with a case of the Zappa Plays Zappa blues, because it will be a long time before I hear any kind of music or see any live show that comes near what I saw on the stage last night.

I sat on the right side of the stage behind Scheila. Watching the band interact, and seeing them close up while playing their parts with the utmost precision made the show that much more enjoyable. I hope ZPZ tours for many more years to come.

I would like to give a special shout out to the muffin men. I had the opportunity to get to know them a bit during the 2008 show, and was glad to get to spend a little time with them at last night's show. We need more people like the muffin men at shows. They are some of the kindest, most friendly people one will ever meet, and I wish them and their families great health and prosperity, and hope to see them again soon.

The icing on the cake was having the opportunity to go to the front of the stage, shake their hands, and speak with most of the band. I appreciated how they made themselves accessible to the fans. You don't see that much these days, and it was wonderful of them to do so. They were all such friendly folks.

Thank you Dweezil, Ben, Sheila, Pete, Billy, Jamie, Joe, the soundmen, the Neighborhood Theatre, and all who made the show possible. Best of wishes to you all.

Music is the best!

Absolutely incredible show, quite possibly the best show I have been to since 1977 Frank and Captain beefheart. Dweezil has obviously worked his butt off to get the right sound and timing. The entire band seem heavily dedicated and passionate about the music.
I really didn't expect the minimal band member count to sound like a twenty member band. Incredible talent and excellent choices of band members really made all the difference. I even took my 22yr old son to the show and he had a great time. Dweezil is so humble and literally spent over an hour talking with fans and signing autographs. It was a small venue but that made it even more special.
Outstanding job by all band members. I am so glad that dweezil is maintaining the the zappa ledgend and wish him and all others involved the very best of luck and health. With any luck I myself still might move to Montana Soon, I always wanted to grow a healthy crop of dental floss and ride a pygme pony. And yes I have a pair of zircon encrusted tweezerz. Thanks Dweezil and thanks to those who tirelessly maintain Zappa .com

So long and thanks for the Muffin, Man..

The show was excellent!!!! It was my 3rd time seeing ZPZ and it gets better every time!! We paid extra and got the VIP tickets so we were able to see the sound check which was amazing, Dweezil told a couple of stories and tried to enlist the help of a 4 year old on guitar ( Rook declied the offer). The show was everything i expected the band was tight and Dweezil molested the guitar like bad a uncle on parole. I would like to personally thank Dweezil and all the band members for putting on a great show and giving me the chance to listen to and relive the music of a legend and idol. Thanks for coming to North Carolina, and especially Charlotte! With the neighborhood theatre closing I hope you guys keep North Carolina in mind and remember that there are many Zappaheads in the land of tobacco and come see us again!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was my 4th ZPZ show, (Asheville, NC, Berkley, CA and the 2 Charlottte shows) and I really miss the multi media extravaganz where they used to play videos of Frank over the band....but that aside, this was my favorite show from a song selection perspective. I appreciated the set list posted by another concert goer, but for the life of me, do not recall "Keep It Greasey" being played....oh well, maybe the glaucoma medicine was extra strong that night. Dweezil's playing is amazing. While not Frank, it's still authentic, and has conceptual continuity, being the offspring of his parents. The band was tight, the drumming seemed particularly Bozio-esque to me. Thank you Dweezil for keeping the music alive. It's rare to hear live Zappa music around here by substitutes, and getting the real thing is THE BEST!
Oh, and "Echidna's Arf (of you)" F-ing intense. I was thinking during the song that it would have been completely ok if that was the only song played and they told us to go home after - it was THAT GOOD!! Keep touring please, will come see you every chance I get.

GOOD NEWZ ! The neighborhood theatre has a new leash on life. As most knew, the theatre was going to close for good. It has now been saved from the great yellow dozer by the local arts and private and public donations.
Thankfully folks here realized the importance of this venue and took action, so, we may all look forward to the day when the D.Z.B will again grace us with their presence.
I, and am sure that the rest of us hope that Dweezil will read this, or at least be apprised of this info and will come back.

My wife, who doesn't appreciate my taste in music (Zappa, ZPZ, Project Object, etc) surprised me by buying two tickets to this venue because she wanted to support me and understands how important their music is to me. I went through a whole range of emotions; from joy and happiness to witnessing the continuation of Frank's music (our first ZPZ concert), to wanting to cry out of frustration over not being able to enjoy Frank's live experience and his (probably) avoidable death. Frank (and his entire entourage) have helped me through many years of difficulty....from being an odd child into a bizarre teenagehood...and straight into a more outlandish adult life.
Of all the constants in my life, Frank and his music have always been present, and now I have the sheer joy of being able to enjoy a new twist on his style -- The Zappa Plays Zappa Tour.
The concert was a truly beautiful experience and one that I hope to repeat as often as possible.
Seeing them play Frank's music brought his spirit into that building and I enjoyed a peace of soul that I hadn't achieved in years.
I dedicated the entire experience to my wife's Aunt Whacky Jackie (R.I.P.) who was an original Mother groupie and will always be present wherever Frank's music is played.
Thank you so very much Dweezil, your family and to the people who keep Franks music alive! So many people need to experience his music and enjoy the profound affect it may have upon your life; as it has mine.
I look forward to seeing you for years to come and it is with my utmost heartfelt wish that everyone can play together that had played together in the past and let bygones be bygones.

Off-hand, is there any way possible that either the ZPZ band or someone has a copy of that show? I've been to sugarmegs and the ZPZ website but couldn't find anything from 2010 except for a recent show in Germany. I am reaching out to all the other zappaphiles that are out there as this show has a tremendous sentimental value for me. Thank you in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction!!!!
