Did you attend the ZPZ show at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

another awesome show! 4th time seeing the Dweez. first time seeing any Zappa perform Bobby Brown, the song that got me in a little trouble in college circa 1980. it revolved around me playing that song out our fraternity house windows after we had blocked the Homecoming Parade with the Homecoming Queen's float right in front of our house. this Queen was a guy. maybe you had to be there.

though i had an amazing seat in the first row of the Loge, i had trouble hearing Scheila's vocals, especially during Crew Slut. speaking of Crew Slut, that Rodney Dangerfield wannabe ruined it and Catholic Girls. whoever he was, his 15 minutes of fame was too long by 14 minutes.

highlight? Scheila's and Billy's solos during REDUNZL. also gotta love an encore that includes Muffin Man!

come back this Summer and bring Frank's little Italian virtuoso!

Awesome show, great venue (very intimate!).

As for the "Dangerfield" guy, that was Al Malkin. He was Frank's limo driver for a time and is credited on having said a line in Catholic Girls, "This is the police." Regardless of the quality, that particular moment was awesome to see. I feel like Frank would have done the very same thing as he often had all sorts of crazy characters come on and take part in the entertainment (read his autobiography.) Having fun on stage, relaxed and an unrehearsed good time that only a gig like the Wellmont could offer.

My highlight, RDNZL!

GREAT SHOW!

This was my first time hearing Franks music, I'm 40 y/o and my buddies buddy loves the ZPZ tours. He took me to Montclair Saturday and I was blown away by the music, show, and the ZPZ band. Can't wait to see them again.....

QUESTION: They ran out of the ZPZ 2010 tour shirt, with Montclair on it. Anyway these will be available on the web?

Thanks

I enjoyed the show very much. Like other reviews, RDNZL was the highlight of the show for me. A note to the crowd though.....Why do you find it necessary to yell "YEAH" or "WOO" or "ZAPPA" in the middle of a solo? I understand the importance of getting into the feel of a show, but that constant yelling from row 13 behind me was overwhelming. You sounded like drunk girls at a college football game. If my pregnant wife wasn't with me, I'd have buried all your heads in the bass drum. Thankfully she was with me and we enjoyed the last half of the show more from the balcony.

Another killer show!! Great guitar solos throughout. I loved the Son of Orange County, so well done, and an incredible solo. Apostraphe' was another highlight, and as others have posted, RDNZL was superb. Catholic Girls was great, and I enjoyed Al Malkin's antics, and I agree that Frank would have done the same thing. What ever happened to all the fun it the world?
The band still amazes me every time, keeping a very solid sound throughout the whole show. And the mix was perfect. Guitar right up front, where it shoud be. Sheila's vocals did get a bit lost once or twice, but all-in-all great sound. And the Muffin Man closer was the eyebrows.
I brought my 23 year-old nephew, and he was blown away. He couldn't believe a band was capable of playing stuff like this LIVE!!! Just before the encore, he asked me if Frank had played guitar too. I guess I have my work cut out for me! But it did make me realize that what I take for granted, is totally unknown to most mortals. Since ZPZ started, I've been going to shows with dedicated fans and I think it's time to re-think this. From now on, I'm bringing along at least one of the un-intiated. Time to start spreadin' this stuff around.
Many thanks to Dweezil and crew for a great time !!!!

thank you for clearing that up for me. i didn't care for his antics, but i never should have questioned Dweezil's judgement in putting him onstage. perhaps i just wasn't in the right mood. who knows. and thanks for the suggestion; i will read the autobiography.

My 4th ZPZ show, sat in second row, and I think I enjoed this one the most. DZ has come a long way since I saw him at the Tower Theater back in 2006. The band was tight and I even thought Ben did a nice job on vocals, harmonica, and stunt dancing.

Highlights for me were Schiela's amazing sax solo, Jamie's guitar solo, and Billy's vocals on Dumb All Over! Pete palyed a mean bass on Apostrophe!

But DZ WAS THE MAN! To sit that close and watch him play Frank's music on the SG with such passion and intensity was amazing. I can tell DZ has to get ever note right. It was awesome to see how Dweezil has become such a superb guitar player. I can't wait to see them next time around.

Epilog: I cuaght up with Al Malkin in the men's room after the show and asked him how he first met Frank. Needless to say, I think Al was still talking at last 30 minutes later!

Hey Dweez, any word on the YCFTOSA downloads? It's been over a year now since I saw you guys at the Roxy and that show was by far the best show I have ever seen. And this says a lot since the show I saw before that was Tom Waits. It's upsetting that it is taking this long and being left in dark about it is insult to injury. It's bad enough I have to deal with the fuckers in D.C. and Sacramento picking my pockets every chance they get, but I never would have suspected anyone with the last name of Zappa to try to pull a fast one on me. You need to make good on this and I think you owe at least an update to us fans that have been supporting you and the music for so long. I've seen the group twice since that show and had family and friends go see you too, but until I get my download you will not see me or my significant others in the crowd. I'm sorry if this sounds jaded, but that's because it is. It's in the air, try not to catch it. I trust the ZAPPA name, don't let me down!

dude, go to dweezilzappaworld.com to get a update on the ycftosa shows. i saw ten of the shows and if anyone has the right to complain, i do (and I do not have a complaint). thing is , dweezil is a very busy man, very busy. he most likely will do more in one day than you and i put together. i hung out with the band on the boat(jam cruise), dweezil is mixing the equivalent of 100 albums. that is alot of work for anyone and on top of that he has his family, and a life. i have the first two shows from chicago, trust me when i say " IT IS WORTH THE WAIT" the mp3s sound better than a cd. i think you should maybe give me man a break. he only wants to give the fans the best and the respect that music deserves. i think you need to apologize to the man.

@ pless,
Firstly, I understand that he is a busy man/workaholic, much like his father before him. Perhaps he works better under pressure, I don't know because I don't know personally know him. With that said, my earlier post was a critique of the way he is conducting business. "It's not personal, it's business," as it was once said. I acknowledged that I am jaded and therein lies my frustration with this situation and a plethora of others. If he wants to take on a gargantuan amount of work and take a long time to get his fans what they paid for (and desperately want too) then I'm sure he expects a certain amount of backlash. The Zappa name has endured critiques far harsher than anything I would ever say about it, and I'm sure "the man" is not losing any sleep over what I wrote. He probably just thinks I'm a dick like you do, but who knows? He also seems like a very understanding and caring individual and he may just have a little empathy for me. But will I give him a break? No, no one else seems to want to give me a break and the world keeps turning.

Secondly, I may not be as busy as Dweezil, but I certainly do not have the time to spend checking different websites all the time to get updates on this matter either. Nor do I have several thousand dollars to spend on following the band around, but I see them every chance I get. The few shows I do go to are carefully budgeted for as I am a poor SOB. What I'm getting at is your admiration/obsession with Dweezil and the band do not make my sentiments invalid. It took over one year and one month for me to complain, to me that's pretty damn patient. And just because he can do no wrong in your eyes does not mean that the rest of ZPZ fans feel the same way. So please do not try to impose your personal sentiments and values on me. I stand by what I wrote, like it or not.

Finally, if you've bothered to read all this drivel up to this point, I'd like to conclude by saying that I do not want to cause a stir on the message boards about this. This is not my intention and if I had known of a more proper setting for this discussion I would have taken it there. However, fans of Zappa's music are a rare commodity in my life I would hate to alienate others or ostracize myself from what I know to be down to earth people that really know awesome and moving music. Frank's music is a part of my life everyday and I can't see that ever changing. Which is why I want my download soooo bad. Until then my idle threat stands and I'm sure no one really cares.

Best regards to Dweezil and all other Zappa fans, especially pless,
Eli

P.S. Dweezil, I'm sure I'll want to apologize once I get my download and am able to listen to and re-experience an amazing show of some truly baroque and mind-blowing music. I know it is well worth the wait, but try to get them out by 2012. I need a soundtrack for the apocalypse.
