Did you see ZPZ openin for Jeff Beck at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Saw the show at the Nokia Theater. Once again disappointing. I will only see Dweezil when he headlines. He put in another phoned in show. Played a couple stand-by ho-hum songs. I wish he would find a deep voiced black guy to take on the vocals. One who preferrably even plays guitar. Keep playing Zappa songs maybe even write a few with the heart of Frank

I was at this show and thought it was terrific! I'm not sure why the person posted above that it was phoned in. This was the 5th time I've seen ZPZ and thought it was again the high standard of music I've come to expect from ZPZ. Dweezil sounded great and at one point Jamie and Dweezil started to play a couple of Jeff Beck licks during one of the jams.

I thought the new singer sounded good too. He was too down in the mix though, I would have liked him a little louder, but he sang Frank's parts really well. And as far as I remember Frank was not a "black guy".

Jeff Beck was amazing too, a great "guitar" show!

Dweezil certainly can play the guitar and does a great job with his band and with Frank's music.
that said when he opens for another band he plays a abbreviated show with the usual stand by songs. I have seen ZPZ many times and many cities. Terrific shows. But when he opens up another bands show he seems to not put out the same effort. And leaves me expecting more. And the lead singer is certainly no Ray White or Napolean Murphy Brock.

I thought DZ and the band put on a great show considering they weren't the headliner. Given time to perform a longer set, I'm sure the whole band could have gone deeper in the catalog and done some more exploring. I dig hearing Frank's music played live and DZ is really starting to get his Dad's chops down. Can't wait to see 'em again in Ventura!
Jeff Beck in my opinion on that night was weak. Very little attack in his set. Very mechanical and way too technical. The highlight for me was his bass player. She sure could slap that thang!

This was my 2nd time seeing ZPZ and I think Dweezil is really starting to channel FZ. I saw Frank at the Santa Monica Civic in like 77 or 78 and was completely mesmerized by what he did with that SG: Dweezil brought that all back Saturday night. I just wish that it was a longer set. I'm going to Ventura for sure! I did miss the light show and visuals they had at The Wiltern last year, hope they bring it back. I do agree the vocals were mixed low and could use a little more punch. But no matter what...

DWEEZIL ROCKS! LONG LIVE ZAPPA!

Once again, I have to clarify my statements. DZ is a terrific guitarist and does Franks music a great service by letting all us FZ fans hear his great songs once again. I have seen DZ many times and many different venues. The set list was limited to Yellow Snow, Montana, and Peaches en Regalia. Plus a few more. I know his time is limited not being the headliner.
Peaches is done every show, Yellow Snow is comic relief, and Montana has been done with much more feeling on previous shows. Maybe Iv'e been spoiled by watching him headline in previous shows and expect the same length and selection of songs. I feel the same way about his Greek Theater show with Dream Theater. Also Jeff Beck was disappointing. He prety much seemed to play the same song 12 times.

As Gary Moore from KLOS asked if there were any Zappa & Beck 'virgins' in the audience; I raised my hand both times. I had never seen Jeff Beck and was really excited to see him. I know of Frank Zappa and had heard some of his stuff; I knew he made something like 50 records. First of all, Nokia Live is a fantastic venue to see anyone; the sound was great and the 2 huge video screens make any seat a good seat. I can't say what an amazing, awesome experience it was seeing ZPZ. I had no idea Dweezil could play a guitar like that, he was great. I am hoping to attend the June show in Ventura. Last comment is to TheBigKing....yes you are spoiled! Peace.

I agree with The Big King, When he is a opening act it seems like he does'nt have time to be one with his audience. I have seen ZPZ as the opening act now twice and I am sorry to say but I was not fullfilled. Dweezil and the band are exceptional, GIVE ME THE F-IN MIC! I GREW UP WITH ZAPPA AND SANG EVERY F-IN SONG, WITH EVERY F-IN NOTE, WITH ALL MY HEART, I LOVE THE ZAPPA FAMILY!!! When ZPZ First Toured With Napoleon Murphy Brock, I cried thru the whole concert with joy and then when he toured with Ray White again, I was beside myself with the feeling that Frank was there!!! Absolutely WONDERFUL, But I agree with Big King, Ben just does'nt fill the hole. Even when the band plays alone and Dweezil is cranking out the riffs IT'S AMAZING!!! This is truely a Zappa playing Zappa. I will be at Ventura no matter what!!! Dweezil is truley doing the most excellent job. There is so much to say - But what do you say? Keep rockin Dweezil... Oh Yha, Beck is suposed to be a master but his playing sucked compaired to Dweezil.

I caught this show and it was the first time I have seen ZPZ.

I was born and raised in SoCal,was a huge fan and saw Zappa/Mothers play more times than I can recall. I can't put into words how moved I was by this show. Dweezil is probably the only person capable of musically and personally seeing that the performance of Frank's music are held to Frank's high standards. They certainly did an outstanding job of that at this concert!!

I don't know the words to use to thank Dweezil for continuing the legacy!!!

Mary Clancy goes up to Father O'Grady after his Sunday morning service, and she's in tears. He says, "So what's bothering you, dear?" nike tn
She says, "Oh, Father, I've got terrible news. My husband passed away last night." nike tn
The priest says, "Oh, Mary, that's terrible! Tell me, Mary, did he have any last requests?" nike tn
She says, "That he did, Father..." nike tn
The priest says, "What did he ask, Mary?"
She says, "He said, "Please, Mary, put down that damn gun...""nike tn

OK, first time I saw D. Zappa live. First time I saw Jeff Beck live. Zappa puts together a FAN- tastic tribute to his father. Hey I admit I am no expert, didn't go to all the ALL NITE concert's his father put on. ( to my loss ) I just thought Frank would be with us forever :( I have been listening to Jean Luc Ponty, George Duke, Adrian Belew,
Peter Wolf and so many other's for all these year's- and can they be wrong ? Don't think they played with Him for
the money, did they ? After hearing D. Zappa play for 20 minutes I thought to myself- self- if I were Jeff Beck would I have D Zappa open for me ? Playing guitar as well as he doe's? And his Father's stuff? Answer :
A. Jeff Beck is confident that he wont be upstaged.
B. Jeff Beck had great respect for Frank & his music.
C. Jeff Beck has great respect for D Zappa.
D. All of the above.
But what do I know, those old guy's wandering around smokin bud's with hip- problems & grey hair might
have other thoughts ???
Muddshark1956 say's , " TWO THUMBS UP !!! "

1st time I've seen ZPZ. Long time Frank fan, same with Jeff Beck. It amazes me Jeff allows these great guitar players - he also allowed Derek Trucks to open for him - clearly, he has no fear. But the ZPZ show I thought was just great. My only complaint was that is was too, TOO short. But that's what the opener gets. I will definitely catch him next time he headlines a gig. Maybe then he'll play the whole "Yellow Snow" combo.
