Did you see ZPZ at The Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa, CA?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

I saw them for the first time, and I really enjoyed the show! It was awesome! If there is a recording of the songs played at Harmony Festival for sale, I defiantly want to buy it. I especially enjoyed Blessed Relief and Take Me, I'm Clean (I think that was the name of the song). I don't think there was a song I didn't enjoy, and now I am up listening to clips on Amazon and YouTube.

New fan here. Thank you for a great show!

This was a great concert! I am a longtime Frank Zappa fanatic, and since he has been playing his Dad's music a Dweezil fan.
All of the musicians are top notch. The bass really stands out. The vocalist is outstanding; with his range he could handle the vocals from the different bands. He has quiet a stage presence and can convey Frank's sardonic message. And of course the Dweez. He seems to be getting better and better. He seems calm and confident and his strong work ethics shows in his playing. I can hear some of his own variations on some solos and his playing was flawless. At times he kicked it into overdrive and just shredded the fretboard.
The show was outdoors at a new age type festival. Lots of 'old school' fans and a new crop of young-ins
headbanging and thoroughly enjoying a true rock concert. It was quite a setting with the vibe they were trying to promote and the band singing about making it with a yoohoo bottle and how his dick is a monster. The song The Blue Light injected some stark realism into the positive vibe the festival stood for; I loved it.
Keep it going Dweezil, this music deserves to be played the right way! Om Shanti.

My compliments to the band ! I am a long time Frank Zappa fan and finally got my chance to see
Zappa plays Zappa. It was worth the wait ! I am now a Dweezil Zappa as a result of the
show in Santa Rosa. All the time and energy Dweezil has put into performing his Fathers music
has paid off. He can play the "stunt" guitar parts that FZ used to have second players for. In that
sense he has surpassed his Father. The setlist was everything an FZ fan could want including some
real surprises like Daddy Daddy Daddy and Little House I used to Live in. "Blessed Relief " was a treat
and showed the further versatility of the band. All of these players know their stuff and belong in this
group. The Vocalist/Trumpet player fits the lineage of vocalists in FZ's bands. He won me over on
the opening part of "Florentine Pogan". While most of FZ's music is difficult to play difficulty is a
matter of degree. This band does not shy away from diving into complex songs. "Peaches en Ragalia"
is a not a warm up song. I really enjoyed the version of "Easy Meat" complete with a Tommy Mars
style interlude. Is there current info on the male keyboardist on the website ? He sang a fine version
of "City of Tiny Lights" towards the end of the set. I never thought I'd see "Big Swifty" performed
onstage ! The Concert setting was great. Outdoors on a warm night. The crowd was a mix of
older folks, some hippies, a few punk rockers, the obligatory young drunk, 20 year kid yelling for
"Billy the Mountain". Actually, a version of "Concentration Moon" would have suited the occasion.
I was standing up front about 2 rows back in the center. The sound was a bit muddy at times.
That could have been due to where I was standing. There was a a lot of low end compression.
The bass solo on Apostrophe was really good but a bit more attack on the tone might have cut
through better. My only complaint was that the audience had to vote on the encore. It was between
"Muffin Man" ,"Cosmik Debris" and "I am the Slime". You know what they say- vote early vote often.
I recommend All FZ fans see this band. If you are not familiar with FZ and are bored with R&R and
want your ears to be engaged with the music go see Dweezil and Zappa plays Zappa. I look forward
to seeing the band in the SF Bay Area again. Go Dweezil (and band)

I have watched ZPZ two times now.Last year at the Rothbury Festival in Michigan and now at the Harmony Festival.
Two different crowds even though they had similarities in that they were festival crowds. It's interesting to me to see the crowds reaction to the music. Especially the young people who have not been exposed to Frank's Music like I have.I am 48 and bought my first Zappa album,Sheik Yerbouti in 1980.
At both concerts the set had to be cut short a couple of songs because of a late start. No one at either concert seemed to care, but it's nice to see and hear that it really matters to you.Dweezil was clearly a bit frustrated when the band first came up on stage to play."we are going to try to play some music for you"... but the crowd was totally engaged and excited by the middle of the first song. Peaches en Regalia is a great song to start your set with...!
I have to say that what you have set out to do is working. This amazing music is sooo fresh to these young ears (and old ears like mine!) and I heard several great comments from people I asked questions of.A friend who I was with at the festival has wanted to see you all for a while and finally did, said that it exceeded his expectations "by a long shot"and he wanted to see you again soon. The lady selling your merchandise the next day,who appeared to be in her 50's had never listened to any Zappa said that she was really happy that she "got to see the amazing show last night" and said that she had "never seen such an eclectic mix of music in her life."
Yes, everyone was stoned....festivals are like that, but I am happy to see that as this new wave of musical sounds kicks in and everyone seems to be trying to find something a little different these days, there is Zappa Plays Zappa,.... turning heads and ears and inspiring those too young to have experienced Frank's genius when he was still among us.
Thank you all for playing that amazing music for us and I hope you all got enough sleep on the long drive north to Eugene.
Have a great tour, see you again soon!
Respectfully,
David Morley
