Wow, that's all. WOW! What a show! I used to see Frank every Halloween in NY eons ago, and it was just awesome seeing Dweezil & Co. It was my father's day present, and it couldn't have been better. I have seen probably over 400 concerts, and I can tell that this band REALLY ENJOYS THEMSELVES onstage. 3 hour show! I truly believe that if they weren't smacked with that 11:00 curfew they would have played another 1/2 hour or more.
Pete NAILED the Gibson EB sound (much to my surprise on what appeared to be a Fender) on Apostrophe and his solo just blew me away! Jamie is great, and Scheila is just delightful to behold. This is a band of keepers. All of the solos all night were just dripping with goodness. It was great seeing Dweezil playing more guitars, but that SG just gets to me. "Lonely Little Girl" (from OIIFTM) was completely unexpected (but really enjoyable), and the arrangement was brilliant. (Howsabout working on "Mama" from that album, hah?)
I died a little inside when they left the stage having played NOTHING from one of my all time favorites "Overnight Sensation", but then for an encore we got a "not on the paper" I'm the Slime, and I was happier. (Not as happy as I would have been if we also got Montana, Dyna Moe Humm, or Zomby Woof, mind you, but still very happy.) I don't know if the band could tell, but almost the entire audience chimed in on "I'm the slime oozin out from your TV set!"
Bringing 17 year old Evan up on stage was maybe the coolest thing I have seen. (Ya THINK he will ever forget THAT?!?) And... he was GREAT!!
I too was disappointed by the turnout, (it kills me to see what drek sells out arenas) but the audience was VERY enthusiatic and appreciative.
My 15 yr old son LOVED it! We were on the ramp aisle, so he got so he got to high 5 most of the band. I saw him looking up Zappa stuff on YouTube yesterday. Nice.
Even my wife, who never much talks about a show afterwards, said on Sunday (out of the blue) "Wow, they were really good last night." That's huge, people. Huge. (She REALLY enjoyed hearing Dweezil sing, by the way.)
