Well... let's begin with the negative point: too short!!! (~ 1 hour), due to the festival's program. The show was followed by Al Jarreau, who winked at the previous show "Dweezil! Magnifique!" He scated ^^.
ZPZ show was simply FABULOUS! I've got the 2008 DVD and... Congratulation guys, it was even better (even if there weren't the legendary Steve Vai, Terry Bozzio or Napoleon Murphy Brock (sorry if I forget someone)).
Particularly, I think Dweezil's play, which was already very good is now next to the perfection itself! For example, the guitar solo in Inca Roads, which was a bit too soft (in my opinion) in the DVD is now, at the same time *personal*, and fits very well in the context. The new guitar effects (Axe-Fx) is very impressive too and is able to digitally reproduce Frank's sounds (sometimes it seemed I was listening to the albums) and new Dweezil's sounds too.
It was outside, which gives us a dry and pure acoustic (no reverb). We were in a nice garden of Provence, among olive trees and the weather was warm! And in this sweet ambiance, the show began with Blessed Relief... (^_^) Dweezil was sincerely touched and sent me a strong emotion! Chris Norton was excellent too at the keyboards: as nice as in The Grand Wazoo. Magical!!!! And he is only 23... (I'm 27 so he could be my brother).
Then, there were a transition to Inca Roads. And as I remember: Apostrophe, The Little House I Used To Live In, Echidna's Arf (Of You) (WAOUUUUUU :))), Montana (and I said to myself about the singer: and he even looks like a good American at the far end of the Montana (in my french imagination of course)) lol. I want to congratulate the drummer for this song ;-). There was also Big Swifty!!! (the introduction was... majestuous! (trumpet etc.) and followed with a more modern but not less poignant "jazz noise"), Peaches En Regalia (of course), and Keep It Greasy! I think I forget no song... (?).
Conclusion: It was great, guys! Just continue! And come again in France, you're welcome! VIVE ZAPPA!
