Did you see ZPZ at the Liverpool Summer Pops Festival?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

WHAT CAN I SAY?????? SIMPLY AMAZING!!!!!!

I went to see ZPZ last year at the Bridgewater, Manchester. I didn't think it could get any better .... But it has. The band has 'grown' so much and are really making this music their own. Also the set list really shows off the eras and versatility of FZ's music. This was also a better venue with a better atmosphere!

One guy mentioned that there is a pyramid of musicians and these guys, not just Dweez but the full band as individuals and as a group are at the very very top. Another guy that came with me to the gig with me has been a session guitarist for 30 years and has played with some high profile people and has seen the likes of Weather Report, Herbie Hancock and Frank back in the late 70's said this was THE BEST gig he'd ever been to!

I'm too young to have seen Frank and he is my musical idol ... So Dweezil and the full band, thankyou for enabling me to taste this magnificent music played to the almost impossible standard it should be!!

Sorry can't remember the set list however, Inca Roads and Yo Mama the highlights and like the Beatles quotes!!

Thanks for signing my ticket ... Have a well deserved break at the end of the tour but PLEASE come back to the North West VERY VERY soon!! I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!

Echo the previous comments. Superb show.

I saw them last time in Manchester, which was great as well, but this was another level.

If you don't know it already, Liverpool always was a big Zappa town, so that's why the crowd was so up for it last night.

Personal highlight for me was the Filmore East stuff, but it was all fantastic.

Come back soon.

55 now, got Chungas revenge when it came out from a record shop in Bangor, North Wales. Went to uni in Liverpool 1972, first live gig Hammersmith 1979. Saw Dweezil's first 'gig' in 1983 (I think) when he came on for a few solos. Hammersmith and the NEC....great memories (and 'T' shirts).
Decided to risk ZpZ with a mate from the old days, a few had cried off because there was no-one from the 'old' band. What can I say, all musicians worthy of Frank's exacting standards...bass, drums and keyboards in particular. Good mix of old/new material.....when I closed my eyes I thought .... yeah, they've got it spot on. The solo on 'blue light' was sublime....I've had a grin on my face ever since.

As the Dweez said, the music is timeless. My 16 yr-old is playing guitar and was knocked out when I gave him 'hot rats' recently. Even though I know every note on that album it never fails to work. Nuff said.....it's great to see how Dweezil respects the legacy left by his dad and what great young musicians are happy to get Frank's stuff spot on even when it's 'difficult'.

As there wasn't a gig in manchester(anyone know why not?) i had to treat the reluctant wife to a weekend in liverpool.after the warm up band she said that although they were ok it wasn't her kind of music and didn't know what she was doing here. After the warm up solo by the brilliant schelia i could she her attitude change and was actually starting to like it.By the end she was shouting louder than me for an encore.Great concert, great musicians, loved the interaction with Ben and the enthusiatic front row groupie!must say scouser's really love their music and know how to react!
Someone on another board has said on the next tour he will take 2 others to introduce them to this music,i will take 4,if i can convert the wife anyone can be converted. This music IS timeless and i for one will be spreading the word.

3rd row Broadway the Hardway (full No-D Glasses) 1989 Birmingham NEC, UK - Wet pants for Bolero encore....
3rd row Manchester Bridgewater Hall 2009 - Amazing, awesome and nice to shake hands...
Front row Liverpool 2010 - Awesome, but.........

after last years dance contest I was hoping to twist and frugge in an arrogant gesture to the Con-Dem undecisive masses. No joy due to the ever increasing popularity of Franks music. Kudos indeed to the skill, dedication and musicallity of the players. It's also a joy to see a new generation switched on to the 20th centuries greatest unsung composer.

I just remember watching the Mothers roots at the Garret. Bring back the Dance Contest (even if it means heated deliberations with Stadia Health and Safety Staff) so Dancin' Fools like myself can both appreciate the amazing 'sound sculptures' and avoid obesity by moving the body, but also not wear my best silver spoon in vain!!!

Said tongue in cheek(ish). Love Franks music still beating the heart of a generation, and hopefully many to come.

Saw zpz in London 2007, again in Manchester 2009. This was my least favourite gig, sad as it sounds I would've appreciated knowing there was a warm up group (as if Dweezil needs one) as I needn't have worried too much about arriving late. The bands muscianship was superb as always. Also it was a little disheartening to see some individuals dancing in the ailses being ushered back to their seats(granted towards the end this was not the case).

Thanks for coming to Liverpool for what was to me superb performance. A fantastic set list with a wide selection of Franks wonderful timeless music. I had forgotten what a great number Blessed Relief was, so The Grand Wazoo has had a few plays past couple of weeks or so....Oh yeah and side 4 of Sheik, Fantastic.....Thanks again.
