P.S. I liked the Kenny G. joke.

The guy sitting next to me started looking offstage, waiting for Kenny G to come out.

Frank Zappa fans finally have something to cheer about. His oldest son, Dweezil, has put together tribute concert and tour honoring his late father and his vast legacy of music. He did his dad proud. We were treated to three solid hours of musical acrobatics. Dweezil has assembled a crack team of young musicians who were up to the task of playing some of the most complicated modern music ever composed. And just to throw fuel on the fire, Dweezil recruited three veterans from former Zappa bands. Napoleon Murphy Brock goes way back to the early days with the Mothers and sang with Zappa up through the mid 70's. His voice added that touch of authenticity that was needed. You could close your eyes and get a real sense of what it must have been like to have been at a Frank Zappa concert. The second half of the show was dominated by Terry Bozio and Steve Via. For as good as the core band was, these two were clearly on another level. They had a "we were there" kind of attitude and had chops out the poop chute. Which was a good thing because Dweezil did not take the easy way out when it came to picking songs. Here is a sample from the set list: Who Needs The Brain Police?, Idiot Bastard Son, Montana, Zombie Woof, Peaches En Regalia, Advanced Romance, I'm So Cute, Trying To Grow A Chin, Punky's Whips, The Black Page and a good portion of Apostrophe. My personal highlight was Punky's Whips from the Baby Snakes movie. Dweezil and Via got in a couple of great guitar duels. Dweezil had his dad's style and tone down and even played Frank's old SG. It was a great show and my hat's off to Dweezil. This was quite an undertaking that he didn't have to do but you could tell that this was important to him. Dweezil, you made your old man proud.

I was playing in a lounge band at the Ameristar Casino the night your show came in, and was able to see a total of a half hour of your show between our sets. The sound was very loud and very good, and I dug Terry Bozzio's song called "I'm so &&^%&$ CUTE". and the other songs were very nicely done. Luckily, part of the time I was watching was when Steve Vai came out and played that AMAZING SOLO!!! He is absolutely the most accomplished rock guitarist I've ever heard, and I was expecting him to just throw the guitar on the stage at the end of his solo, because he can't POSSIBLY get any better than the amazing player he was that night, I was so inspired by Steve! Best wishes, and PLEASE COME TO VEGAS, I'll be there for the whole time, except for 2 minutes halfway through to go take a leak, how in the hell do you stay onstage for 3 hours without a potty break???? Be safe, DC, Las Vegas
