Did you attend this show at Konserthus Hovedsalen in Stavanger?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

This is maybe the best concert I have ever been to.
The band did not just play Frank Zappa - they created the same atmosphere that Frank did.
The concert was far better than I ever expected.
It is good music when the sounds make the physical body dissolve and makes it become vibrations in a time- and placeless space.

Thank you!

From Stink Foot to Muffin Man...............

Holy shit, I can not belive you did this. More then 19 years ago I saw Frank himself play in Norway. Needless to say, that was one hell of an experience. And then you guys yesterday. Good sound, loud and proud...., but the set list?
I mean would I ever expect to hear "Ship'o'hoy"????? Would I? No, but I did. The rawest ever slide from Zoot Allures over to "Ship...". Chickenskin :!:

Ray's wonderful performance on "The Illinois enema...", flashback to a certain performance on "Zappa In N.Y". The "Duprees Paradise" version from hell.....funniest performance I have seen on any stage for ages. Yes, you guys most certainly can play Frank's music, with a twist! "G-Spot Tornado"...I would rate it impossible to play live, however you guys did, and you did very well.

Summen up, Great music, great show, great musicianship......, all performed in the spirit of Frank.

A very warm welcome back next year guys, please!

Thanks....!

I've seen Frank live twice and it was truly among the greatest musical experiences in my entire life.

I came to this show without much expectations. I've heard Frank's music being played some times without him being present, and it hasn't really worked for me. But Frank was definitely present in spirit in this show, and the show worked.
Here are some of my thoughts on the show in Stavanger Konserthus, Stavanger, Norway

Florentine Pogen was very powerful. It's a perfect song for live performances.
The power doesn't quite get across on record, but it's in its proper element on stage. The same applies to Pygmy Twylyte. Scheila Gonzales' sax/synth solo on Heavy Duty Judy was brilliant. It was a great delight to see a person who was so much "inside" the music all the time, even when she was not playing. She seemed to be totally engaged whether she was playing or just enjoying the solos of her fellow musicians.

The highlights for me was Dog/Meat. Playing the melody on Meat on guitar must be very demanding, and as far as I know, not even Frank played that one on guitar. It must be extremely challenging to play all the grace notes and killer 32th notes properly. Dweezil seemed to play it effortlessly. One important aspect of Frank's music is that very often the hard parts were doubled by two or more instruments, so in case one of the players messes up, it's easily noticable. There's no way of faking it. It has to be right, and this band did it right.

Joe Travers is a solid drummer, and watching him was also a great delight.
Maybe he could have done more of the interesting interplay between drums and guitar that was such an important part of Frank's guitar solos. Undoubtedly he must have the greatest job in the world, being Vaultmeister, listening to tons of tapes with
the most intriguing music on the planet and tour around the world playing the music live. Lucky dude!

Ray White was incredible throughout the show. His singing is really powerful, and his guitar comping is fabulously groovy and tight. Frank was totally right when he said about White that "he is rhythm".

All the musicians did a tremendous job at honoring the legacy of Frank's music. They showed genuine craftsmanship and are excellent ambassadors of Frank's uniquely varied and versatile music.

The combination of Frank on video and the live band worked really well. Maybe Frank would have viewed it as a good example of xenochrony?

The sound was good, although some of the synth sounds were a bit too loud a couple of times.

Keep it up!

This was great!!!!

I have listened to zappa music for nearly 30 years, and was very curious about the performing of his music on this concert. And this was extremely good. The sound picture, the performers, the solo's, the show.

Thanks to you all, and especially dweezil make this happens!

See you next year.

Ship ahoy, good thing you reached that ferry !

Dweezil: happy to report if you failed to notice, many new young fans in the audience. Thank you for playing Zoot allures - it was amazing.

Pete: you've got a rubber neck and you smile while nailing those tricky notes

Scheila: five musicians on two legs with a serious groove.

Aaron: mad scientist # 1

Joe: solid and very tasty playing - cool voice on the bandit !

Billy: as overheard in the audience: "amazing" - cool intro on bandit !

Jamie: absolutely beautiful tone.

Ray: ooohhh what a long lost treasure.

Thomas nordegg : mad scientist # 2

welcome back !

It was amazing and fun!

Does anyone have the setlist?
