Did you attend this show at Cirkus in Stockholm?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Hi Dweezil, Ray and the band.
What a spectacular musical kick you gave us tonight. Jazz is not dead, nor is FZ. But Tricky Dick is stone dead.
Seriously it was a great concert, extremely well performed down to every half note. The guitar solo in Pygme Twilight will be remembered as unrivalled (at least in this century...). The presence, timing and quality of each sound performed by each band member was superb. Do come back to us again. Smother us in chocolate syrup and strap us on. WOW.
Last year was great, but this year's tour is so much more refined and rehearsed. Please continue your mission. Please.

I pinched my hand so hard during G-Spot Tornado that it almost started bleeding. When I heard Zappa for the first time I was living up north in Sweden, I was 14 and incredibly happy. Here was a man that gave me a whole universe to roam freely in, he gave me a sense of direction and something to strive for, both musically and as a person.
Last night in Stockholm I felt the same thing once again. But during the concert I also remembered how sad I was the day he died. That day in december 1993 something was ripped out of my life, and I have missed it ever since.
When you played G-Spot Tornado I felt as though Frank Zappa was still alive. And in a sense he is. His words are ever so important, and his music really has the ability to change the world - just by being great music.

Love may not be music, but I love Zappas music.
Music and Frank Zappa are the best.

/Paul

Thanks for a Zappamendous concert!
I cried when you played What's new in Baltimore and Zoot Allures.
It was without any doubt the best concert I've ever been to.
Can't wait 'til you come back next year! A visit in the US. might become necessary..

Now, there aren't words enough to describe the concert.
Of course we'll continue coming to the concerts Mr. Zappa!
I'm so greatful that you're doing this, all of you!

By the way, Ray, our "typical" Swedish look is blonde hair and blue eyes not the other way around.

You rock my world Zappa plays Zappaband!
Thanks again for the best concert ever!
Best regards //Sofie

What can you say?

Words are really pathetically inadequate to really describe the feelings that run through your whole person when you are experiencing the most fantastic music ever written, played by such fantastically skilled musicians and, as icing on the cake, occasionally watching Frank himself on the giant screen behind...

As a fan for many many years I had thought that the World's Finest Optional Entertainment would never hit a stage again after the horrific catastrophe of Frank's passing in 93, but for two years in a row Dweezil and band have proved me wrong by performing spotless renditions of music that is miles ahead of any other music that I can think of.

Frank is to me the most important person who ever lived and I get happy just seeing a picture of him. And yesterday, watching him in the unique footage from Cosmik Debris, he provoked both tears of sadness and raw unbridled laughter in a peculiar mix... :D

Seeing the great man whom I miss so dearly in his hilarious mimicking of the hand clapping of a Person With No Natural Rhythm was simultaneously heartbreaking and making me laugh my ass off. Those five seconds are definitely one of the funniest Zappa moments I've ever seen in my entire life, period!!

Dweezil became emotional when told the audience that will keep on playing for as long as we want him to... Virtually the whole audience gave him a standing ovation as a response. So Dweezil, be certain that there will always be a home for Frank Zappa's music in Sweden.

Please, please, please come back.

Thanks to the World Famous Ray White for your Voice and your amazing good humour and the extraordinary funny impromptu improv in "The Last Time I Looked Down There I was Swedish"... So very good to see you, Ray.

Thanks THE ZPZ BAND for your total devotion and jaw-droppingly astonishing musicianship and your overall STAGECRAFT... (Oh to have only 0,1 % of your musical talent!)

Thanks Dweezil for the simply tremenjus guitar solo in Pygmy... for introducing The Granddaughter of Frank Zappa, the heartbreakingly sweet little Zola! (Was this actually Zola's stage debut? Good thing to teach her about the strange breed of Zappa Fanatics from an early age! :)

And thanks to FRANK for the Music and for Being Around once. Missing him acutely still.

Thank you all in ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA from the bottom of my heart! :D

As Frank said, "See you next time."

Hi,

I must personally say that I wasn't very impressed by the gig. They all seemed quite tired (very understandable though, lots of gigs) and they did not play well as a band. G-spot tornado was the only impressive performance as a band of the night. Whenever Frank appeared on screen the show really had a meaning. It was a very good idea and it worked well. It really felt like Frank was there with us for a while.

Ray White was the star of the show. He sang amazingly and really showed good attitude and humor. Thank you so much Ray for participating! When he came in to sing City of Tiny lights as the third song the concert really started for me.

A very nice surprise was also the other guitarist, Jamie. Nice solo in Dupree's Paradise! A real shame that he couldn't stand out more, he's talent could have helped the whole band to step up a little. He's sound was the only one that really was good and suited this kind of music (well of course Ray's singing sound is the greatest in the world!!). He and Ray were the only ones in my oppinion who performed genuinely as themselves, or atleast so it seemed.

Th overall sound was something you would expect from a modern pop band. The bass was too hifi, with very smooth warm low end. The beautiful lines of many songs couldn't really be heard because there was no mids or highs in the sound. And no percussive elements what you would hear in for ex in Scot Thunes playing. Except for the uninteresting slap solo in dupree's paradise were he tried to slap a Victor Wooten -kind of solo over the 19/16 rif from "Keep it Greasey".

Joe was tight in his playing but did not have the drive Frank's drummers had. And the solo in dupree's paradise wasn't very good. Propably just because eh was tired. Heard him play amazingly in other projects.

The overall feeling of the band was that they were tired. Sheila and Billy played ofthen in poor time and so did Dweezil. The humor was just not funny (except when Ray was involved!) and Scheilas waitrice -act was just something that couldn't have been funny to anyone, least of all for the band.

Dweezil played basically the same polished pentatonic-rock/blues -licks over and over again in every solo he did except in one song which I think was "Zoot Allures" if I remember correctly. There he played a little bit like Frank and that was more interesting. Dweezil's sound in the other songs was very modern, undynamic and smooth and had nothing to do with the sound Frank had.

I think Dweezil's "conducting" was a little corny especially in Dupree's paradise. The show would be better without the conducting. His daughter conducted well though :)

Aaron played pretty well but was very trad. jazz -kind of player which really didnt suite the songs. His going crazy -act was really funny in one of he's solos (the one where one key got stuck :)) and he traded nice phrases with Scheila in Dupree's paradise solo section when they got the chance.

Scheila played ok. She sang very well backrounds and never sang out of tune. But she doesn't have the carisma to sing Dirty love. In "dog meat" and "G-spot tornado" her changing instruments all the time was interesting and fun to look at. She did those songs very well!

I hope I haven't offended anyone with these lines, that really wasn't the meaning. I critisize the show from my musician point of view and many will say that it is a very narrow point of view indeed. I'm very happy for Dweezil and the band that inspite of what I said about the show A LOT OF PEOPLE enjoyed it from the bottom of their hearts, I could tell.
All the musicians seemed talented but many need to either consentrate better or practice more. You can't let tiredness show like that! I hope you will play better in the States.

Rock on!

The show was awesome, I hope u come back next year. I was like the only one who was under 20 on the show, that was pretty sad, there were some young people there, but there should be more!! :)
All the songs were great but, next year I want to hear Inca Roads with Ruth Underwood, George Duke, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Chester Thompson, and Tom Fowler (and of course DWEEZIL). Then my dreams are fulfilled!!! But the band they played with this time was also good; Ray on the vocals was fantastic! But I would have liked some more of the Tinseltown rebellion songs, but enough with complaining, THIS CONCERT WAS AWESOME. And after the show I went to the stage to thank Dweezil, he’s my idol now! xD

I also wonder if it’s possible to get Dweezil’s mail address? I want to send him an Email!

I can't get over it...

I missed the show in Stockholm just because of the fact that I had to go to Umeå for some emergency eye surgery to safe my eye after a work accident.
I went to the hospital in Umeå at the thursday (11/10) and experienced 3 diffrent operations in order to save my eye.
At the sunday I was laying down in my hospital bed and at 7:30 pm I got so depressed knowing that the show was on in Stockholm!
I hope that you will be back soon to Sweden and I'm already planning to go to Washington DC to catch your show there at the 7th of November.

Thank you all for doing this great work for the music of Frank Zappa that you do!

Best regards from Erik, Östersund

Answer to "Silver".
Excuse me but were we actually at the same concert?
I'm sorry to say this but I really think you should get someone to check your hearing.

The concert was absolutely marvelous, if you must express your crazy and incorrect "observations" PLEASE go bother someone else who deserves it!
By the way, just so you won't make a fool of yourself in the future, you need to check your spelling as well.

I get so angry and frustrated at these kind of people who doesn't seem to understand a bit of what music is and what it's like to be on stage and perform.
It's their, as so many others lives for gods sake!

I could agree with you on some points though, IF THEY WERE TRUE WHICH THEY AREN'T!!
Give it to someone who deserves it! There's so many bad people to waste your mean energy on.
I truly hope that you are one of those people who just want to provoke others to madness. //Angry and offended

Answer to "Manezzo".
Hi there!
I can assure you that you weren't the only one under 20 on the concert.
I myself is 17, my friend's also 17( he was there with me) and I saw a whole bunch of youngsters in the lobby.
But you're absolutely right in that matter, most people in the audience had passed their.. ehm.. youngest years.
The concert must be kept in the old people's home in the future if there won't be any refreshments in the audience.

We've got to show them!
Mr. Dweezil Zappa and band have to learn them, give them some education!
//Ofy

Thankyou and thankyou and thankyou again for this show  I were In lund and se the concert the day before and In Stockholm It was different. In Lund I thought the band look tired and not that tight playing...In Stockholm It was a miles beyound that....So very welled ´played and the band members seemed to be more having fun and give their self to us who were there. This was the kast european consert and even if they were tired I think that they felt that they should give us an outstanding consert that we will never forget..."and thats right folks" I will never ever forget It. It was a really Hallelulija moment that take a mark in my heart for the rest of my life.
Thankyou Dweezil for the strenghts you have to stay after the show and do autografs and talk to us Zappa freaks, both new and us older freaks.
I´ve got one dvd signed, two tickets and also autograf from Ray and Jamie and Pete so thakyou to you to for that.
It was amazing and I felt just before the show that this would be something really special, I just felt It in the air, and It was so.
I really hope that you guys are coming back next year and play some more Zappa music that will never die :?
Thankyou once again to let me have this oppurtunity to see this and I will have this wiht me for the rest of my life,,,,

Great Googgelyyy Moggelly :P
