Did you attend this show at Broadway Theatre in Kingston?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

What a great show in Kingston, NY last night. Right away Dweezil set the tone with his blazing guitar solo on Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy. Great set list... The whole band was awesome and real tight. Ray White's voice was better than ever. It just made me appreciate Frank's music even more. I had the experience to see Frank back in 1984 and this just brought back all the great memories and everything that his music did for me... My friend who was with me, knew some of the stuff, but after the show, really thought it was awesome and great music... One of my favorite moments out of many was when the band did 'Archinda's Arf" Love that whole arrangement.... the whole crowd was into everything...

"cuz you smell like piss"

4th time seeing ZPZ last night in Kingston. What can be said that hasn't already been touched on? The band rocks, Dweezil deserves so much credit for making this happen, great to see so much fan support, and I finally have the ZPZ dvd in my hands.

Also, Dweezil told the crowd he'd see us next year.

They were selling PAL left overs from Europe at the discounted price of $25, and after a little deliberation decided that there's no way I was leaving without one (debating whether or not to wait till the NTSC version comes out - but who knows when that might be -Thinking about it now, they probably have the NTSC versions all printed and ready to go, but are opting to sell leftovers of the PAL's to get rid of them). Got through the 1st 7 songs - this is seriously good stuff.

The footage was edited by none other than Dweezil himself, with Yannick Gamache & Guy Picotte. It looks and sounds great.

I'm about to check out what special features are on the DVD.

After seeing Dweezil's band last night, I can only say that Frank would be so PROUD to hear his son playing his music the way it was meant to be played. Dweezil's band, much like his father's band, consists of amazing musicians who enjoy playing this music, having fun and playing their asses off! Ray White was in great voice as usual and it was really great hearing him sing and play guitar again.

Dweezil was fantastic as band leader and lead guitarist playing a heathy amount of solos in his own style which is very fluid and intricate and occasionally borrowing some nice quotes from Frank's solos. He's also taken the role of "stunt guitarist" whipping through the lines on "Dog Meat" and "G-Spot Tornado". For me, those were the highlight of the show, although there were many other surprises and treats. The set list spanned Frank's entire catalog from Freak Out to The Yellow Shark and almost everything in between. The show was almost 3 hours of non-stop music and entertainment.

Any Zappa fan who misses this tour is really missing something special!

I was never a really big fan, but really enjoyed the Mother's - saw them in the mid 60's, had 3 of their albums. I really appreciated the boldness and uncharted territory that Frank explored. I was just drawn to the show in Kingston. It was, in a word, magical. 1,400 mostly white guys, over 50, barely staying in their seats, enthusiastically grooving every song. A standing O just for coming on stage!. They were hungry for this, and all left after nearly 3 non-stop hours, full. No polite applause here - real appreciation. The guys around me knew ALL the words (which, if I had one complaint it would be that the music overpowered the words, except when Ray really belted it out there -or maybe it's just that i was in the balcony). High-fives all around as they recognized each song, or part of song in the medley's.
The musicianship was stellar. Waiting for the show to start a guy nearby wondered if Dweezil could play guitar - HE DIDN'T WONDER FOR LONG! It was clear that you all LOVE LOVE LOVE what you are doing - and had so much fun doing it. You guys are tight.
The play bill notes said you wanted to introduce Frank's music to a new generation. Don't know, given the age of the crowd if that'll happen, but you re-introduced him to me, and I won't forget him again. The power of early rock, the soaring and collision of jazz. what can one say except, "WOWIE ZOWIE".

We had been hearing this was a good show, but the band exceeded our expectations. Ray White really sang his heart out and the crowd really responded. After a Sax improv the audience went nuts and I think Sheila noticed. She blew down the house that was some awesome sax playing. Dweezil was great, very relaxed and the guitar lead lacked for nothing. They were all awesome musicians. It seemed afterwards everyone was walking out smiling and raving that was a great show. I saw Frank play the Mid Hudson Civic center in the 1980's. The Frank Zappa guitar lead clips really made me appreciate what an awesome guitar player he was. At the encore, the classical pieces impressed me. I loved Dog Meat. Oh and the sound mix was perfect.

Already planning on going to next years show.

Next year will be my 35th Anniversary of going to ZAPPA shows.
I guess Frank would call me a "Lifer".

We are truly blessed to get to hear the maestro's music.

YOUR DAD WOULD BE PROUD!! The band is great and extraordinarily talented. The range of instruments and sounds is awesome.

For some reason, I chose to sit in the Loge, 3rd row center. It was a good decision. The sound was exceptional, no surprise since 90% of the speakers were right in front of me.

I love the song selection and have been going to the area shows of ZPZ for 3 years. I hope next year brings more and different songs, there are a lot to choose from.

I am begging you DWEEZIL, and the great group of people surrounding you, to post a setlist, I dont want to be hassled with writing down the songs as they are played.

Keep it up, see you next year!

i attended so many of the palladium halloween shows way back when that i was really a bit skeptical as to whether any ZPZ experience could come close.

after four seconds into montana, i had a tear in my eye and was hooked....at once jealous of dweezel for having access to what must be thousands of hours of concert footage and recordings and thankful that he has no doubt spent thousands of hours reveiwing said material.

the band was tight and had an adventurous improvisational ability that, no doubt, would have made FZ proud.

what a joy to see/hear ray white on so many familar tunes. his guitar/scat solo smoothe and tasteful. if anyone knows where i can find any other recordings with ray playing, please e me.

all i can really say is i have vowed to never miss another ZPZ show within a hundred miles.

thank you to dweezel and the band!

Thank you cletusawreetus for the set list! I was having too much fun to take notes. This was my first ZPZ show, and it didn't take me long to realize we were in the presence of greatness. Carolina Hard Core Ecstasy blew the roof off and the theater had no ceiling for the next three hours. DZ and the band handle these compositions with incredible skill and boundless energy, and a great sense of humor. Ray White sang his ass off, and all the solos were interesting. Eat That Question, which I didn't expect to hear, was amazing. Judging from some of the stuff that DZ says, he's sort of a twisted chip off the old block: That stuff in Joe's Garage warning Joe about suicide by cop, coming from a cop who had just been fired from his job and all that...pretty out
This was a great concert and I will go out of my way to see this band again.
Thank you Dweezil. And Scheila, Aaron, Ray, Joe, Billy, Pete and Jamie.

Ahhhhhh Dweezil , you did it again and all I can say is THANK YOU!!
I saw both the Beacon and the Kingston shows and was blown away. What was even better was the setlist was different and had some songs mixed around. It is such a pleasure to hear Dad's music played to the nth degree, the way it was meant to be played. Also to see you grow as a musician and play that guitar that wants to kill my mama, makes me proud to be a ZAPPA fan!!!!! You are definitely carrying on the ZAPPA Legacy and I'm so happy to be able to see it and hear it. The band again is so so so tight and talented I'm speechless and they amaze me everytime I see you guys.... Scheila you are awesome!!!!!! Marry me....lol Awesome sax solo Friday nite . But the best had to be meeting Dweezil , my friend and I signed up for a membership to UPAC and were very fortunate to meet Dweezil after the show and have our picture with him. Dweezil I hope when you come back to NY, I again can get backstage access so you can sign the picture of you, my friend Dan and myself, it truly would make the Kingston show one of the Zappa show ever!!!!

Zappa fan for life.........Dimitri - Pt. Lookout, NY

While Halloween was the BIG ONE the UPAC performances in Kingston NY made for as Frank may have said a most wonderful evening at the theater.

I made my way up early to the region and spent some time with my family in the town of Woodstock. Purchased some artisan breads and deserts at Dan Leader's Bread Alone. As I had had the opportunity to assist Dan in one of his educational classes several years ago I knew I was in for a treat. While the seasonal Walnut & Cranberry Bread along with a variety of mini-tarts were splendid additions to the Kill Ugly Radio Ale we would be bringing along to a dinner at a friends home later that evening I was somehow a bit disappointed that the olive bread had sold out for that day. The shop was filled with lots of photos of "The Band" from a stay they had there in 1969 so being at Bread Alone was a lovely introduction to the town of Woodstock and it's culture. We made our way to a few candle and craft shops and was pleasantly surprised to see a Fear and Loathing in Mexico art exhibit by Hunter S Thompson. There was one very big shop that had everything you could think of as far as nostalgia from the Woodstock event that took place in White Lake NY back in August 1969.
In one of those rotating CD racks the first three Mothers Of Invention CD were in clear eyes view. While this place was filled wall to wall and room to room with T-Shirts and Posters it was nice to see Zappa represented right near the register.

Anyhow after a dinner at a friends house in Kingston where our present day families got a chance to meet up for the first time it was time that a friend who I had not listened to Zappa with in over 30 years made our way to UPAC. We discussed the Dweezil Zappa interview on WDST Radio and Zappa Plays Zappa Cover Story in the Preview Section of a local paper. We arrived in plenty so I may purchase a ZPZ DVD. While at the Kingston show only the of PAL version had been available I have been informed that NTSC is now available at the shows. So with DVD in hand we made our way to the seats that were smack dead center just a few rows in front of the mixing console. The President of the Bardovan Society gave a pre-show talk of all media support. Thanks to the media for getting out the info on this show. Now if they could only get deliver some airplay that makes Zappa a staple of the regional airwaves. UPAC is a great place, new Mixing Console and PA where this historic theater has positioned itself as a prime location for regional shows.

So as the show began I realized the sonics were up there with the best of the 12 ZPZ performances I had seen. The show brought on some surprises in selection and Duprees was an evolving Tour De Force that could easily develop into some Shut Up Dupree multi CD set taken from the entire 2007 Tour. While Halloween focused on Scheila getting a workout utilizing just about every piece of her arsenal Kingston spread the love more so than I had seen in other shows this year. Anybody out there saying this band does not take chances I can only wonder what they are smoking.

I think as time goes on and more long time hard core fans see ZPZ for the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th time they get to see this band evolve. I don't think I need to go on and on here but in closing I'd like to say it was amazing to see this show with a friend who I listened to Zappa music with over 30 years ago. He and I had connected fro the first time in over 30 years. We had the opportunity to see some music and sports over the summer but Zappa Plays Zappa authentically connected a part of our lives that lived in NYC back in the early 70s. While he hopes to come down to NYC for a ZPZ Halloween I can honestly say that I hope the UPAC in Kingston NY becomes a stomping ground for the ZPZ Band.

I attended the ZPZ show in Kingston and was blown away. I saw ZPZ at the Beacon on the 1st tour, which was very special as well but this tour Dweezil has grown by leaps and bounds. He is sooo much more confident both in his playing and his overall presence. I agree with all the posts that Frank would be very proud and I am certain that Gail is - as well as his sisters. He is truely doing his Dad's music justice. I do hope that he continues to grow, keeps playing his Dad's music, and somehow manages to get Flo and Eddie to do a tour with him!!!!! I want Billy the Mountain :) Also - PLEASE come back to Kingston!
