Did you attend this show at Toad's Place in Richmond?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Wow, if you weren't there, you really missed an awesome show. Dweezil's technical prowess is at LEAST equal to that of his dad Frank. These are some of the best musicians you never heard in your life. They brought the house down with a few perfectly synchronized video homages to dear old dad. It was as if Dweezil and Frank were playing together on the same stage. In church on Sunday, beg forgiveness for the fact that you missed this show. Even if you don't like Zappa, this show was a soul, funk, classical, and blues jam explosion with the perfectly intonated vocals of Ray White. Scheila with the mad sax and keyboards. Pete, Billy, Aaron, Jamie, and Joe were equally phenomonal. Like others, I had my doubts and thought this could just be Dweezil riding the coat tails of his dad and honestly, this doubt was further fueled by the fact that they had major technical difficulties up front in Richmond. I suppose every band has a bad night, but once they straightened it out, they delivered a mind blowing and robust show. more than worth the $32.50 admission...I would have paid as much as $41.73 for this show. Dweezil has obvioulsy done his homework...A phenomanal musician who stands on his own. Every age range was represented. There were parents who brought their 2 year old kid at the very front of the stage up to 70 year old ladies in the balcony. Just freaking awesome...keep playing guys....I want to see you next year again.

Dispite guitar difficulties great show. Looking forward to hearing Magdalena on the next tour. The addition of Magic fingers was really nice. I think you guys would have fun with doing Billy the Mountain or going back to 200 Motels with Mystery Roach. I was also wondering if you guys were going to put out a dvd of this tour. One final suggestion you should do a ZPZ downloads where we could download the whole show for a minimal price. I would love to hear this show again as well as others that I have been to. Its funny I come home after the each show and think that was the best one and then the next show is even better looking forward too see you guys again can't wait to see who special guest next tour. I hope you guys keep doing this for years to come so I can bring my little Andy who is only 2. Enjoy the final leg of the tour and take an extended vacation after the tour you guys deserve it. Music is the best. :D

Thanks again

Hi guys!

Caught your show at Toad's Place in Richmond last night and I was blown away. I have to cop to being a total Zappa neophyte and really was there because my musician boyfriend was such a fan of Frank's music. So, as a complete newbie, I wasn't sure what to expect. But, as we were able to get up close to the stage, right in front of Keith and Jamie, I got to appreciate the mind-blowing technical skill required, but what's more? I got to see just how much fun you guys had on stage together.

I consider this concert as opening the door on the whole Zappa anthology of music of which I had been ignorant, and for that I am truly thankful. You guys were tremendous, and my face is still sore from smiling so hard. Thanks so much for bringing this amazing experience to my neck of the woods... its like perma-Christmas.

Good luck with the rest of the tour (only 16 more shows!) and enjoy your rest at the end. You're leaving a whole slew of new fans in your wake. :) See you next year!

~Ani.

PS: Hey Joe! Hey Billy! You guys were awesome and made me laugh so much! Billy - you need a bigger, floppier mallet thingie. :)

The show was a little slow getting started. Dweezil had to deal with his guitar not working, which he handled well (trust me, on stage that is one of the most stressful things that could happen to you.) But once it took off I was like  the whole show.
I caught the August, Asheville NC show and while that night will always have a place in my heart, the technical prowess you guys displayed last night was unbelievable. My friends and I just about died when you guys broke out with the FreakOut! and some of the old Mothers tunes.
Dweezil, you have reinvented yourself, and I must say you are doing a very unselfish thing here (I mean, he has enough in his own catalogue that he could just tour his own music) But to take the time to get these wonderful musician together to learn your father's song and then to bring to them to us talent-starved youngsters is such a treat for all.
Never Stop Playing. Viva FZ!

Heh.. my girlfriends post is above me.

I loved the show, and thanks to all of you for taking the time to stop in little old Richmond.

Dweezil, your guitar playing is worthy of your name. Nothing but face melting, cockle warming, tasty licks from you good sir. My hearing will not recover for a week, but it was worth it to be seared by your unfiltered tones.

You've put together a fine group of people. Every one of them simply excellent. Each musician had room to breathe within Franks compositions.
I'm looking forward to see how you grow as a band.

Hearing "Magic Fingers" was great! Thank you!

Some guy kept hollering for Magdelina over and over and over and over and over and over again. He said it a lot. Yep. That was a little distracting.
When Ray offered me an enema, I must admit I thought about it. This is clearly when fandom crosses the line into the realm of... uh.. something..

I watched a bit of the ZPZ DVD and it's PERFECT. Thanks for that treat and the autograph.

Technical issues and music critiques aside, an important thing about your show and any music event I suppose, is that the group of musicians appear to be having a good time at what they're doing. You guys excel at this. You might have been tired or bugged by sound problems etc etc, but your love for the music shines through all of that. I guess in a weird way, you're Zappa fans too, just like your audience. (well you know, not *just* like them, haha, but... fans nonetheless) Anyway, that's a great connection to have with your listeners. We all feel as one.

I haven't seriously played guitar in a few years, but you've inspired me to pick my gear up again. I thank you for that! See you next time around!_____________________________________________________________

Dweezil & Co., that was a phenomenal show!
I'm fairly new to the Richmond area, and I was very happy to have you guys come to Richmond, where I was unsure of a good fan base. But it was a very appreciative audience, making it an even better show, if that's possible. It was a great night full of brilliant music. Thanks, and please come back!

I have a feeling Magic Fingers wiil find itself in the set list comfortably from now on. Thanks for giving us that special treat last night.

This morning I woke up and got a chance to spin "Zappa/Wazoo"

The day will only get better after a viewing of of ZPZ DVD and a few pints of liquid refreshment.

By the way, does anyone know who that was playing on the CD before the show last night? I asked the guy working the boards and he had no idea. Sounded awesome whoever it was. Anyone got a clue?

The funk stuff that was playing, I've heard a million times and I can't recall the artist name, but the middle eastern sounding stuff was Secret Chiefs 3.

:)

Hell yeah bro, thanks! Copying and pasting "Secret Chiefs 3" into browser now

If anyone knows who "the funk stuff" was I would greatly appreciate that as well

Dweezil - Great!! Thanks for the autographs and being a generally friendly person. The band was tight! Dog Meat was fantastic as was Pygmy Twilight, Yo Mama, Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy and everything else. And being eight feet from Ray during Doreen, Willie the Pimp and the Illinois Enema Bandit was too good! Please come to the Raleigh NC area. God bless and thank you!
