Did you attend this show at the Orpheum in Vancouver?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Scheila Gonzales is a young goddess. And a phenomenal musician and singer. The rest of the guys are young gods also.

Dweez's solos are breathtaking. The "Dog/Meat " opener was heart-stopping and set the tone for the rest of the evening.

"Dumb All Over" -- relevant then, moreso now. Eerie and wonderful to see Frank tellin' it with the band working out live behind him.

"What's New in Baltimore" was sublime. Amazing solo from Dweez during "Yo Mama."

"G-Spot Tornado" was absolutely tight, astonishing.

Secret words:

Skytrain
Asian Women
Fucked if I know!
Yellow Fever
Something about passing a joint
Britney's Beaver!

Did I forget something?

Thanks Dweezil, for giving us the experience of hearing a live performance of this amazing music. See you next year.

P.S. Gov't Mule was just in town a couple of nights ago and did a swell FZ medley. I got *two* Pygmy Twylytes in one week. That's never happened to me before, probably will never happen again!

What can be said that hasn't been already.....

This was some of the scariest shit that I've ever seen in my life!!
Terrifying musicianship (and vocals), fearsomely delivered with brilliant execution. All night I struggled with an overwhelming fear that my head might pop off and float away like a balloon at any moment!

You people totally freaked me out -- again!! :D Thank you so much for another awesome evening of mirth and music!!!

See ya next year!

First off I just gotta say one thing. Thank you Dweezil. Its been my pleasure to be a fan of Franks music for some time, but being of a "younger" age I never had the opportunity to see a live show. But now there is zappa plays zappa. FANTASTIC

The show was great, and Id like to say that I feel the band is even better/tighter then last year. Ray White sounds as good as ever, his voice sounds killer. There were two highlites for me. During the bit of "audience participation" The Dweez and Ray pick random words from the audience and create a song. The result at this show was a beauty called BOK CHOY, was fun/ny little song about yellow fever, among other things. Great fun.

The other bit that really did it for me was the addition of using video performances of Frank on screen complete with an isolated vocal/ and or guitar solo. The sound was perfect, he blended in flawlessly with the band. Its as close as I will get to seein him and I appreciate Dweezils addition of this to the show. One of the clips was quite funny, a rendition of Montana (unreleased) where frank was obviousley having some fun, and perhaps even goofin around alittle! Made me laugh and smile. Until next year.

Thanks Dweezil
Music and Frank Zappa are the best!

ZPZ at the Orpheum, it doesn't get much better. This year the show started on time and with the video treats we missed last year. And i got to buy a t-shirt and DVD because there wasn't 3 thousand people at the merchandise table. The band was tight, (it was ladies night, he was glad that he met her) and Ray was awesome.
they played:

Dog/Meat
??? from 200 Motels (sorry, couldn't remember the name of this ditty)
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy
Doreen
How Could I Be Such a Fool
Ain't Got No Heart
I'm Not Satisfied
Lonely Little Girl
City of Tiny Lights
Zoot Allures
Ship Ahoy
Pygmy Twylyte
Duprees Paradise...with a lovely Heavy Duty Judy audience participation interlude.....da da da dadada..da da da dadada... plus yellow fever, Britneys beaver, Asian women, Bok Choy and pass the joint lyrical interlude by the Raymesiter.
Uncle Remus
Willie the Pimp
Dumb All Over w/vid.
What's new in Baltimore? (Britneys beaver?)
Joes Garage
Wind Up Workin' in a Gas Station
San Berdino
Illinois Enema Bandit
Yo Mama

encore:

Cosmik Debris w/vid
G Spot Tornado
Muffin Man w/vid

someone will help me with the 200 motels tune...i'm drawing a blank and i'm at work so i can't dig out 200 Motels and see wtf it was.

Highlights for me were:
City of Tiny Lights..wasn't expecting it, WOW!
Duprees Paradise with a bit of HDJ in it WOWOW!
Uncle Remus...i can die now!
Joes Garage...TURN IT DOWN...I'M CALLING THE POLICE!
Yo Mama....Holy Mackerel Dere, so fucking sweet!!!!!!
Muffin Man...THANKYOU!

Looks like everyone had a swell time. Stayed around for a Dweezil autograph session, he signed my brand new ZPZ dvd, my ticket stub, and my Barking Pumpkin t-shirt.
All in all, another wonderful evening celebrating the Franksters music, see you next year!

THANKYOU.....ZFT, Dweezil, Ray, Scheila, Joe, Jaime, Billy, Pete, Aaron

Dirk Diggler...aka EvelynamodifiedDog.

WOW
What a fun show!
I have tons to say, so I warn thee!
=P

I really appreciate the setlist mix, ie- it was so different than last year.
Keep up the fresh mixes! Stick it out til next year!!! =)
...maybe even play Jewish Princess for the girl next to me who asked...just keep it greasy for us!

Tiny lights-- nice and upbeat! Great feel! Great vocals!
Very nice lead into Zoot Allures btw.

And Pygmy Twylyte-- was it slower, or is the last (old) live version in my head sped up from its original source? Or am I on BPM?
Nonetheless, I loved it.

Dupree's Paradise: Great skytrain-asian women-yellow fever-pass that joint-f*d if i know solos, particularly on percussion, and Jamie's guitar.

Ray was hilarious! I'll have to bash my memory (and my friend's) to better recall some of his impromptu he/she lyrics, LOL!

Funny how over a drink before the show, my friend and I were talking about working in gas stations!
We were lucky to get outta there and enjoy the San Berdino solos!

What a treat to hear Joe's Garage get assaulted by the central scrutinizer himself!!
And Joe's nice whiny voice: "...he used to cut the grass...was such a nice boy..."

Cosmik and Muffin, what perfect encores!
I really noticed how the whole band (except Joe) focused on the screen for Frank's solos and delivery of these. Quite touching, I'd say.
I have to think that if I had known FZ I'd be teary butterfly-goosebumped onstage performing in synch with his aura. Pretty fkn cool. Nice medium.

That really left me warmed; the music and an apparition that we took in
for entertainment just enriches our love of music and good people.
In Zappa we trust.

So thanks very much to a soundboard tech, I got a setlist copy and brought my Halloween inset for signing, thanks all!
I waited at the stage after, and Dweezil patiently signed many items including one woman's nice new bass/treble clef long sleeve white shirt (which I really like) that he also wore.

I told Dweezil that I loved Dupree's, that it was awesome and he said "Ya, it was a lot of fun." I mean, after all it is musician's paradise!!!

So I guess they have a scenic (hectic?) drive and a day off on the way to Calgary. I mentioned that I hoped they dress warm, cuz it'd be freeeezing in Alberta right now.
:B

"Prost" (cheers) to Thomas Nordegg for his 777 thousandth show well delivered!!!
***I asked Thomas if he had another VAI tour in him yet, but it seems as Vai joins ZPZ next week, it may be their last tour together?***

When I enthusiastically mentioned to Thomas that I am engaged to an Austrian girl, he expressed that it's likely he'll move back to Vienna soon.
Perhaps the man that never sleeps can get some hometime R+R finally?
So congratulations Thomas on decades of service, sticky innovations and relentless dedication! Googles of decibels and notes have come thru your productive path, and you deserve a huge cheer.

In the Zappas we can trust, as generations shift the workload of performing the massive FZ catalog, I, and others, will be back to see you year after year.

Thank you all!!!
=D

Completely awesome show.

I caught ZPZ when they came to Vancouver last year, and I must say that this year's show was even better than the first. The lack of Steve Vai-induced guitar insanity was easily matched by the superior set-list, and Ray White was an absolute delight to hear live.

My favorite tracks were: Magic Fingers, Lonely Little Girl, City Of Tiny Lights, Zoot Allures, Willie the Pimp, Yo Mama, G Spot Tornado, and—obviously—Muffin Man. Zoot Allures was the biggest surprise to me; better than the original, I felt. That is the kind of music I picture people passing into nirvana to. Bliss.

Dweezil

Thanks so much for keeping the legacy of your fathers music alive today I had a great time last night and I can not say what was a highlite for me due to the fact the whole performance was brilliant.
I as many fans of Frank's music hope you can do this for as long as possible and I believe you should be able knowing the amount of material Frank produced.
Purchased last years DVD :D Thanks so much! I hope we will be able to buy this years performance next year or sooner!!!

Seeing your dad play on video last night was great, I had the pleasure seeing him play in Vancouver a few times so seeing him again in this format was great.

I am sure your father was some where in the building last evening feeling very proud.Well done son!

All the best Have a great Turkey day.
Cheers.

Unbelievable show!! Thank you for giving us the gift of seeing Frank's music played live, especially by such a fantastic group of musicians. Your hard work has payed off big time! I'm already anticipating next year's show so please keep it going. Just like there will always be symphonies to play Mozart or Beethoven I hope there will always be musicians of this calliber playing Zappa.

Thanks again,
MKC

this concert went way past "it tingled deep". the show was fantastic....you really "whipped it out". my 13 year old son was very impressed....he plays the violin, alto sax and baritone sax (and races sailboats). he definitely heard the band "make a jazz noise here". my heart was gladdened... the musical improv had me lmao, i knew every song and was cheered that you performed a completely different playlist from last december 20th in the Queen E. i found myself rockin' in my seat, and singing along, the binoculars i picked up the day before were proven to be indispensable and i may have fallen in love with the beauteous scheila gonzalez ...you go girl, you have serious talent! i loved everything, from the collaborative vocals on 200 motels' "magic fingers" through the zoot allures "wind up workin' in a gas station", "doreen" (a song i like to belt out when i meet girls whose names rhyme with doreen, well even if they don't heh) "ship ahoy" was to drown for...oh wow...right on down to "g-spot tornado" and "muffin man". thanks dweezil et al, i'll be back AND i'll bring friends. p.s. i asked you to "write slow" on the DVD! thank you and we'll see you next year!
