Did you attend this show at the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

What an amazing experience! A huge thank you to all the people involved in bringing this to Brisbane. Am realtively new to Frank, but have been wanting to catch ZPZ and was prepared to travel to the other side of the world until I discovered that the tour was coming here. :D
The concept - brilliant. Performances - world class. Music and talent - amazing! An unforgettable night. We loved it so much we are now looking to get to Melbourne or Sydney - but seems there aren't too many good seats available! Congratulations to all.

What a show!!!! Awesome band, superb musicianship, great venue, all up a fabulous night. There was a delay in the start of the show - the band could still be heard soundcchecking at the scheduled start time of 7.30, and though they didn't come on until 8.20 pm, they played straight through (no interval), for over 2 and a half hours.

Set list (this is pretty exact I'm sure!):

Magic Fingers
Carolina Hard Core Ecstasy
Doreen
Joe's Garage
Wind Up Working In A Gas Station
San Berdino
Cosmik Debris (w/FZ)
Pygmy Twylyte
Dupree's Paradise (including bits of Heavy Duty Judy, Packard Goose and improv)
Uncle Remus
Willie The Pimp
City Of Tiny Lites*
Advance Romance*
Dumb All Over* (w/FZ)
What's New In Baltimore*
Montana* (w/FZ)
I'm The Slime
The Illinois Enema Bandit

Dog Meat
G Spot Tornado
Muffin Man* (w/FZ)

*featuring Steve Vai

I'm sure as well that due to the late start the band missed had to cut the set by a couple of songs, as Dweezil announced before Tiny Lites that he was changing the sset around with one eye on the clock.

Highlights:
Ray White's singing especially on "Carolina", "Doreen" and "Enema Bandit"; the look on Steve Vai's face as he watched himself on the big screen playing with FZ on "Dumb All Over"; the hilarious lyrical improvisation by Ray White during "Dupree's Paradise"; the skill and dexterity of the band on G Spot Tornado as rendered by "real" instruments; and I loved the fact that Dweezil hung around at the end of the show shaking hands and talking with the audience.

Fantastic stuff - come back soon!

Where to start.

OK, I was sitting front row, centre, and it was my girlfriend Cat who yelled out "I did your mum!"

So if anyone from the band reads this, I would LOVE to be able to get my hands on a recording of Ray's improvised song. My girlfriend is a HUGE fan of Zappa's music, and I'd love to give her a copy of what is now undoubtedly her very own song, for Christmas. If you or anyone you know can help, I BEG you, email me at:

splashmore @ hotmail . com

My girlfriend introduced me to Zappa's music some years ago, and if I can get a recording of this song it would at least go some way to repaying the unrepayable debt I owe her for bringing this great music into my life.

I'd just like to say "Thanks" for the hard work which went into making that show happen, and the tour , and thanks to the awesome musicians for delivering.

The setlist mentioned earlier by bruciematt was near exact to the photo I took of the official setlist off the stage that night. The list also had "Yo Mama" and "Peaches" just after Willie the Pimp and before City of Tiny Lites.

Quite simply the highlight of my life. To the Zappa Family Trust, Family, Band Members, DZ and especially FZ...thanks for making my life complete. The show on Tuesday night was the most inspirational thing I have ever seen.
We all thank you for the extreme high quality performance. I loved the bit Dweezil said about fucking wallabies. Priceless.
Did your mum/stone the crows was a breathtaking performance from Ray. Truly a genius.
THANK YOU AND PLEASE COME BACK SOON.

Yes I did attend the show and have been searching on the net ever since on how to contact Dweezil.
ZPZ was the most amazing experience of my life. We did not want it to end.
I was so envious to see the people in the front row get the chance to tell him personally what an awesome job he had done. I am new to the Zappa world although having a husband who is a huge fan, but let me say I am right there with him now. I read in one of Dweezils blogs that his aim is to bring new generations into the Zappa world, well let me tell you we have three young boys and the 8 year old is constantly asking for us to play Frank Zappa, so Dweezil it sure is happening and we will make sure it keeps happening.
The passion you showed the respect you showed and the entertainment to your audience was outstanding and we thank you. I would like to mention your band members WOW, the energy Schiela threw out to the audience and her talent (two instruments at the one time), Ray Whites truely amazing voice and in fact the whole band was just full of talent. My husband hasnt stopped saying he wants to go back now, so Dweezil dont leave it too long :-)

Tuesday night was a full circle experience for me. I first got into Frank Zappa's music through my appreciation of Steve Vai. Vai blew my mind when I first heard "Eat 'Em And Smile" by David Lee Roth and I became obsessive about finding out anything I could about his awesome guitarist. When I discovered that Vai had played for Frank Zappa I became intrigued, but where to start?

After my initial reservations (let's face it, you either get FZ or you don't and I initially didn't) I finally got into him.

When I heard that Dweezil was bringing the ZPZ show to Brisbane, me and my other bandmates had to go. And we were not disappointed. Even though the show was nearly an hour late, I don't think that anyone left feeling that they had missed out. And out of all the Zappa catalogue they still managed to play my absolute favourite Zappa song; "San Ber'dino".

There's nothing that I can say in this post that no one else has already said except to thank Dweezil, Ray White, Steve Vai and the rest of the band for bringing Zappa's music to us in Australia and for keeping the music and spirit of Frank alive.

I loved every second of it.

An incredibly good performance. I loved every moment of the Brisbane concert and was so impressed that it's focus was all about the 'music'.
I first discovered Frank when I was 15, and would love to say that it changed my life but in truth that happened a few years later when I'd begun to understand his music a little more deeply. I was living too far from the cities when Frank came to Australia but was overjoyed to have seen him play the Hammersmith Odeon in London on the 17th of Feb. 1977. (It was the night 'Pink Napkins' (from Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar) was recorded.) Thirty years on, I was having my spirits elevated again thanks to Dweezil and each and every member of that band he brought along with him. The Lyric Theatre, whilst not the biggest venue in Brisbane, was acoustically perfect for such a performance.
Ray White was just amazing, stringing together local colloquialisms like "Go the boot", "Stone the crows" and "Did your Mum" into an impromptu song. Steve Vai was also singularly brilliant. The tickets were very reasonable (even cheap) by today's standards and Dweezil remaining onstage for a meet 'n greet with the fans after such a demanding performance has only won him an even greater respect from fans.
(We may even forgive you for playing with Jenny Morris on your last visit here, some 20 years ago.) There was an awful lot of love in the room and I truly hope it was enough to encourage you back - and soon. Don't leave it for another 20 years though. (I'm 52 now and doubt I can wait that long!) Thank you so much for making the journey to our little country - and for keeping that fantastic music alive. (None of it sounded in the least bit dated.)
Oh, and introducing the wonderful term, "Stunt Bacon" could well have been preceded with: "The secret word for tonight is..."
(Seasons Greetings to the entire Zappa family).
