Did you attend this ZPZ show at Witherspoon Hall in Omaha?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

I was fortunate enough to be at the Omaha performance last night...
I have to say it was the best concert I have ever gone to.
If they are coming to your town, GO! you won't regret it.

Concert started a little after 8PM and was over at 10:30.
I didn't want it to be over.
Dweezil and all the musicians are fantastic and it is amazing to watch them perform.

Thanks for a great time.

Here is the setlist from the stage. We were lucky to post it after surviving the tornado that touched down near our hotel at 3 A.M. Good Times! It is evident that Dweezil's Twin Towers have added a new tonal environment to the sound. It's so great to see Dweezil using the old effects necessary to build this musical soundscape that Frank taught us. Dweezil played his strat for the majority of the 80s material with the Dyna Flangers flailing throughout his leads. It's a whole new flavor of sound for this tour. When Dweezil played leads with his Gibson SG / Les Paul the bright humbuckers punched through to the front of the sound. The new setup is amazing. Some of the hightlights of the show were the big chunk of music from Joe's Garage and Bamboozled by Love into King Kong. They played this one with extra "big balls." With Dweezil's new equipment, songs like Inca Roads really stood out. It was really great to see Magic Fingers again. I am missing one baked item from the Utility Muffin Kitchen...I can only imagine what it would sound like with Dweezil's new twins! Tasty! We really enjoyed seeing the show inside the beautiful pink marble art museum. Wow. The crowd was well behaved except for the occassional video taper dumb all over guy who pisses Dweezil off and steals the karma from the stage. I really enjoyed the new songs & the choice for the set list so far. Joe T really got off during Calolina & the band seemed to gel big time. The shows to come will be even better as they get use to playing this new material live & add in other past favorites through out the tour. The band is so tight & can play anything, Whipping Post? Chunga's Revenge?, & Stink Foot, would all benefit from DZ's new setup. Once again DZ signed & thanked ever person who waited for his personal attention until the stage was almost dismantled. The band members all approached the stage to greet the crowd at the end of the show. DZ has given us so much to look forward to this tour. Ray White was exceptional, Scheila realy got into the cosmik jam, Aaron had a great 70's fender Rhodes super jam, which Ray was very excited about. Billy has the best hand eye coordination, Pete got off on his solo in Cosmik as did Jamie during his solo where he plays his tricky three finger sliding hammer on transmuted lead YES I noticed! Dweezil's strumming hand technique is never been better & completely obvious that he has been praticing the figure eight necessay to allow him to play as fast as he does in the count. Frank would have been so proud . What a great start to our tour see you all in St Louis. DZ congrats on your new daughter wish you & your family the best of everthing!!! Neumanfish

I have always considered myself to be more of a "Punk rocker"I tend to like music like the Butthole Surfers and the Buzzcocks. I always did like Zappa albums when i heard them, I respect the fact he went up against Tipper during the PMRC trials and was hilarious doing so. I have to say, i have seen a lot of live music in my lifetime, but this beat all expectations. Dweezil can shred, and the band was tight and extremely talented. I was hoping more Nebraskans would have showed up to sell the place out so they will come back. This was the best concert i have seen. I am not familiar with all the songs names that they played but I do know they sounded awesome. This has resparked my interest in Zappa and Dweezil's music. It was definately worth going to.

My only real live FZ show was in Omaha, in (I think) 1984.

Overall, this was a blast! Everyone played their asses off, the band was very tight, and the choice of tunes was delicious. DZ sounded excellent, and played a lot of burning guitar without seemingly breaking a sweat at all. Ray sounds incredible and ageless, and Joe was especially intense.

It didn't have that edge-of-chaos anything-might-happen thing, in which gas masks, whips, politicians, vegetables, or even the Secret Word might appear, but I didn't really expect that. (Although, while DZ was tuning up between a couple of tunes, someone yelled 'Caravan With A Drum Sola', which Ray, Scheila and Joe happily provided.) This group seems to be dedicated only to playing the shit out of the music.

There were a couple of honest-to-goodness holy-shit jaw-dropping moments (St. Alfonso being one), where the band was so blindingly effortlessly ON that they sort of disappeared, and the real magic wired into the tunes came out. It was like thousands of tiny thumbs urging one to let go.

I'd do this again anytime.

[Was a wonderful experience to share Zappa music with about 600 other fans in an intimate setting last nite. The songs covered the spectrum of the Zappa anthology and the musicians skills were fantastic. Only 1 significant problem - the sound quality absolutely sucked. Unclear whether it was the fault of the venue or the sound staff - but the level of distortion was unbelievable and the mix was impossible. Without familiarity with the songs - particuarly on the extended Joe's Garage segment - it was one big 'rockin' muddle. Perhaps Joe's Mom had a point last nite - turnin it down may have been the only option.

Hopefully other sites do justice to the music.

Don't forget the Wet T-Shirt Night theatrics! That was some good stuff that wasn't expected.

I am too young to ever see Frank Zappa in concert, but I was surely not dissapointed by the band that Dweezil has put together.

The show was great. I especially enjoyed Inca Roads, because lately I have been listening to "The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life" over and over and that is one of my favorite songs from the album. St. Alfonso's pancake breakfast is also another one of my favorites. By the time you got to Cosmik Debris, I was totally hooked and starting to get wild. I wish the show would've gone on for a couple more hours.

From what I saw of the DVD (through the trailer) this show blew the DVD away, and I wish I could have a DVD with Ray singing.

If there is anything that Dweezil's band could do to sell more tickets, I think it would be to mix in some humor in with the show -- i.e., when Frank and crew are lambasting Swaggart and other assorted miscreants in the album I mentioned above. You did a little bit of that with the Fembot in a wet t-shirt stuff. Also, get out the bullhorn and try to do an impression of the Central Scrutinizer, your voice didn't cut it (sorry).

Also, Dweezil -- I wanted to give more money to the band by paying for an overpriced t-shirt. However, the stand was accepting cash only. For your sake and ours, please accept credit cards in the future.

Finally -- Thank you for coming to Omaha. This was the best concert I have seen in a long time, and for $30 I would come out and see you every weekend. Please come back if you have another tour.

I agree with all of the above. FANTASTIC show, Fantastic musicians, great audience.

but...you knew this was coming...I agree with the poster who talked about the accoustics.
Now, I think this really depends on where one sits. I thought my front row seats would rock. And they did from a visual perspective. I could see all the musicians 'doing their thing'.

Unfortunately, my seat was directly in front of the speaker tower at stage left. The bass thumped hard, but it drowned out a lot of the other players.
Maybe don't sell the seats right in front of the towers, or put the towers somewhere else, or well, you get the idea.

THANKS for listening!
