This show was absolutely Amazing. I have never heard more accomplished pure musicians in my life. The skill and love for the music was evident with every song. I missed this tour a year ago, but I vowed never to miss again. I look forward to purchasing the DVD and anything that results from this tour. I also need to begin filling my personal library with more FZ material. Thank you to Dweezil and all the musicians for putting your heart and soul out there for everyone to enjoy.

It has been 27 years since I experienced a Zappa show. Carbondale, IL in 1981, some of whcih ended up on TinselTown Rebellion... I have missed DZ's earlier visits but will not miss it again.
Tiny Lights, Broken Hearts and for Assholes, and an fun Wet T-Shirt Night, got things going and Joe's Garage and St. Alphonso's were absolutley incredible... DZ's licks were blazing and Ray White was so energizing, the band (please someone post the band members) was what you would expect at a Zappa show and and more.
DZ or an band member would take a solo and the crowd response seemed to surprise DZ.. I came in with high expectations after being ripped from my sleep hearing Willie the Pimp on David Letterman, and last night exceeded my expectations. I thought no way can they do Inca Roads, but after a few minutes it was evident that anything in the catalog was possible... They did not do Inca Roads here but I saw that it is on the menu from earlier posts..
DZ and the band seemed humbled by the response, he stayed and signed after the show until everyone had what they wanted. Pop Z would be Proud! The apple fell from the tree and is resting against the trunk.

Absolutley loved it,

See you next time

OMG (as the kids type these days).

What a show!

I found the torrent for the Minneapolis show and spent the day Monday listening to it over and over, and i was still totally blown away last night - the show was (IMHO) much better than any of the recordings i've heard of ZPZ before. TIGHT. If they're jammin and crankin like this at the beginning of the tour, i can only imagine how it will be for the rest of you who get to see them later. The solos were phenom. DZ really let the rest of the band play too - there were two different times where he went round the band (King Kong and Cosmik Debris) letting them play and play. And i really enjoyed the last bit where he and Sheila dueled it out. Relistening to the Minneapolis show i can say we got more extended solos in many cases and i am hoping for a CD of this tour from the ZPZ crew!

We were in the front row of the balcony and had a perfect view. Couldn't ask for better (didn't want to stand in the front on the floor - heck i'm 51 and it was way past my bedtime LOL!). It was fun to see DZ's reaction - again, i've never seen them before, but he seemed genuinely surprised to see people grooving on the stuff. He was fascinated (or maybe it was another kind of reaction) by the guy dancing so strangely on the side of the stage late in the show.

The sounds were amazing. The guitar work phenom. The band was just tight! Ray was wonderful to watch. Sheila had her own little cheering section and rocked us all... I don't know all the other guys in the band, but there wasn't a slacker in the bunch. Drumming wonderful and energetic.

The extended solos were just incredible. The new sounds out of DZ's guitars just can't be imagined. You have to see this show!

Would have loved the Inca Roads to be in this show too.

Only thing that disappointed me was that the show wasn't sold out! There were quite a few empty seats but they still played as if there were millions.

Walked away with a FZ shirt.

Can't wait for the audio CDs etc. AMAZING!!!!!!

My friend (who goes to tons of shows) was amazed to see Dweezil spending time after a 2 1/2 hour show signing autographs - he actually even climbed off the stage and was standing in the audience until everyone got what they wanted. FZ is smiling proudly! Thanks Frank!

Thanks Dweezil for putting this show together!

What else can be said except,WOW!!! Another great show from DZ and crew. I saw last year and you can't compare the two. Having Vai, Bozzio and NMB on stage last year was a total treat, but the focus was mostly on them, and don't get me wrong, it kicked ass! This year DZ proved he can carry the show. Beautiful jams, fun improv, tradin' licks with Sheila and Jamie. Yellow Snow Suite (my 9 year olds favorite FZ songs, he's coming next year!!) Joe's Garage suite! KING KONG!! Beautiful Guy, Bamboozled, Lucille, ...it was all fantastic! Ray White, one of the greatest voices FZ ever had sing his songs! The band was tight as ever. My bass playing friends were diggin Pete, my guitar friends diggin' DZ, Ray and Jamie. We all loved Shelia/Mary's mamalian protuberances! Aaron and Shelia on horns. Being a drummer, I've always loved the way FZ surrounded himself with some of the best, Chester Thompson, Bozzio, Wackerman, Coliuta, DUnbar, JCB, Humprhey....Joe Travers, you sit right up there with them. The same goes for Billy, on par with Ed Mann and Ruth. Absolutely Fantastic! I had opertunities to see FZ when I was younger and, for what ever reason, failed to..... Thank you, all of you, for treating us to the wonderful music of Frank. "...music is the BEST!"

The show last nite at the pagent was everything I dreamed it would be and more! I went two years ago and had such a fantastic time I had to go back. My son got us tickets to see the boys in chicago in 2006 and we couldnt go because my grandmother became ill and died shortly after. We were soo excited that we could see them later that year in st louis and had a great time. Last nite my wife and I stood on the floor just feet from dweezl the whole show! I am soo glad they played four songs from joe's garage including my favorite lucille! I don't know if the show was a sell out but anyone who missed it lost out on two plus hours of pure fun. I don't know if dweezl stays after each show and signs autographs, but I hope he felt the outporing of love from the crowd! He signed my ticket and I now have something that will remind me of that amazing evening. I cannot imagine a better show I have been to. The music is so complicated and precise and to have it played so pure and clean with so much love and fun is a joy to watch. I hope the band realized how much the crowd was buzzing after the show and how much St Louis loves them for including us in the tour plans! I never got to see Frank live and the last two shows has made up for that in a big way. I am so very glad the music lives on live and on stage were it can be most loved and enjoyed. Thanks for all the fun!!!!

zappa plays zappa was a great show. probably one of the best i have ever been to, and i have seen close to a thousand over the past 35 years (im 50). my favorite zappa albums are apostrophe and joes garage so those tunes were fairly covered during the 2.5 hour set. the musicianship was beyond belief. i was unfamiliar with most of the rest of the tunes but will be tracking down them down to add to my collection. my drummer buddy bought my ticket (i paid him back) and after the show i had to thank him repeatedly for getting me to go see this show. dz promised to return to stl next year and i will be the one buying up extra seats for my buddies who never seem to get out but i know would love the show, hey, what a friends for...right? at the moment i would have normally got up to get a drink refill and hit the can i realized i didn't want to miss one note...that is when i sat awestruck knowing these folks "are really good musicians". dweezel-you rock, you are not a good guitarist, you are a REALLY GOOD guitarist. bass dude-i don't know your name but my kid plays a pretty mean warwick and he will be coming to your next show to see your stuff, very tight. rhythm guitar guy on the right, dude it was good to see you get some solo spots, worthy. percussion guy-freakin incredible. drummer man - those dw's were so sweet, your timing and execution were impeccable, vocals were excellent. keyboard guy toward the back- i kept trying to pick your parts out from the rest and a few times could follow your stuff...nice...that keyboard horn instrument was really cool, babe on the sax and kb- such a delight watching you woman, freaked me out there with the distorted sax parts and your vocals were right on. vocalist guy (Ken?)-thank you! how sweet it is. dweezel-a new respect my friend, your guitar chops rival the best. your composure on stage was (should i say) inspirational. i know there were a few other folks contributing because i still couldn't figure out who was doing the central scrutinizer vocals, and oh, the soundboard guy seemed to be catching the groove thruout the show. marvelous, fantastic, words aren't doing it. everyone-the theatrics were really fun to see and hear, the passages with the multiple voice overs blew my mind. please keep it together, keep it fresh and come back to stl soon. music is the best.

btw, i just realized i spent a half hour registering and rattling this message off, not typical for me but this show was not your typical rock concert, it absolutely set the standard. and one more thing....band-thank you for not gigging us working stiffs, the ticket price was manageable and after all was the best music investment i have made in quite a while.

peace

This is the 4th ZPZ show the Mrs. and I have had the pleasure of attending. A few things:

1) I want to thank Dweezil and the band for another excellent show. They never fail to surprise us!

2) Kudos to ZPZ for keeping the ticket prices to a reasonable level, as mentioned by the previous poster, during these tough times. At $25 a head that's less than half what we paid to see ZPZ last fall in KC!

3) I had the pleasure of hearing Ray perform with FZ 15 times and it was really interesting to hear him sing a lot of material that I've never heard him cover before. I especially liked his take on Bamboozled!

4) My favorite Dweezil solo of the evening was Outside Now. Not an easy task since that piece is a huge favorite of mine!

5) Last time ZPZ played this venue, in December 2006, Dweezil commented about the cloud created by the audience's "smoking treats".
It's interesting to note that this show was designated "non-smoking". Not at all like the FZ shows of yore when literally every band member had a cigarette dangling out of their mouth!

Incredible show. I cannot even begin to describe the superior musicianship of EVERYONE in the band. Unfortunately, being a drummer, I walk away feeling as though I know NOTHING about my instrument! I guess that's part of what should drive musicians to be better. Joe, you are an amazing talent, incredibly smooth and a real joy to watch. And what a pleasure it was to see Dweezil as he sat on the edge of the stage and signed autographs until everyone left. Thanks again, look forward to seeing you next time.

this stuff ROCKS!!!!i've seen ZPZ the two times he played in chicago and was completely blown away. when i saw this little midwest tour(minniapolis, omaha, wakarusa, st.louis) i knew it was time to hit the road.
these guys got better every night, the first night was hot, hey!!!you can dance to this stuff!!!groovy..... omaha a little layed back but still boogied for joes garage, carolina and cozmic debris. BUT THEN (oh ya, wakarusa rain out) TA DA...St. Louis where in my mind (and my boogie bone) this band turnes into a... a... a... Horrors!!! should i say? A JAM BAND
from the first note to the last, i couldnt stop moving, yes folks that was me in the front, purple snoopy shirt enjoying smokey treats. Dweez, youve done what your pop didnt, use this music to get people to boogie, the kids love to dance!!! i saw your dad half a dozen times and we always sat down for the show-not bad, just the way it worked.
after a couple of hundred dead shows, i learned you can experience a show not just with your ears and eyes but with your toes and hips and fingers and shouders and every fibre of your being. MUSIC IS THE BEST!!!!!!!
insted of pointing out the dude video taping you every night, just offer us an official recording of the show via instant live or any of of the other concert recording services. we tape because WE LOVE THE MUSIC. The WHO sell their shows, members of the grateful dead, the black crows, lots of folks. nearly everyone would spend another 20-$30 for a quality AUDIO CD of the show....WE LOVE THE MUSIC....SHARE IT WITH YOUR LOVING FANS, more people hearing more of your music can never be a bad thing. see you out in New york.

You mean the song formerly done by the Scorpions?
I have seen this on a couple of song lists and know "Purple Lagoon" but am not familiar with a Zappa song of this title and am curious.

Can anyone clarify?
