Did you attend this ZPZ show at the House of Blues in New Orleans?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Glynn said that ZPZ is the best band he has ever worked for, and that DZ is one of the world's best guitarists. Glynn is right on on both accounts!
Props to Glynn for the great sound mix tonight!

My wife and I made the '06, '07 and '08 ZPZ shows, and they keep getting better - hard to believe it, but yes, better every time!
Dweezil is definately a world-class guitar player! DZ's guitar playing tonight along with Ray's vocals kept giving me flashbacks to the FZ shows of 84.

Sheila was on fire again - unbelievable, Jamie's slide playing and solos were great, Billy's percussion was perfect, and Joe's drumming, especially on Packard Goose, wow!. Aaron & Pete were terrific!
DZ's guitar work tonight was something to behold. And the sounds tonight - oh man!

Thanks to Zappa Family Trust, DZ and this phenominal band for keeping this going - FZ music is the best!

Sheila blew the roof off the place. That girl can wail!

Top-notch performances by everybody. The Joe's Garage material was a big and welcomed surprise, as was G-Spot Tornado. I didn't even know a human could play that stuff. I'm already looking forward to next year.

P.S. the guy dancing in front of the speaker was not on anything. He was just having a great time!

I have seen many shows in New Orleans and i must say WOW.I couldn't go to sleep when i got home my mind was thouroughly blown. DZ quelled any lingering doubts aboout his abilities. He can so do pops material. But the highlight for me was the passionate response form the crowd. I almost thought i was in the Superdome at a Saints game cause i couldnt here myself screaming after Willie the Pimp. Keep up the great work guys i will be back for more.

I think the sound was much better than the last show I saw (Todd Rundgren) but the vocals were often a bit muddy on the floor. (They sucked upstairs at TR). I think DZ having to turn up Ray White's amp about sum up where things are at the HoB.

In spite of that, a stellar show. This was my first ZDZ show and the band and arrangements were mindblowingly good.

My girlfriend and I drove up from Houston to see the House of Blues show, since I’m so busy in my hometown at night that I’ll probably have to miss a future Houston gig. Plus, June 11th was my birthday, so what better present to myself?
Folks, DON’T miss this tour. The band has gelled as a unit over time and couldn’t be tighter. The setlist was excellent and I can’t imagine this music being better executed. But beyond the incredible musicianship, the band members are truly enjoying themselves and the 2.5 hour show had the perfect mix of polish and spontaneity. Despite having a cold, Dweezil played some of the best solos I’ve ever heard from him and was as accommodating as ever with fans afterward. Frank would be SO proud.
Keep up the awesome work, guys! My girlfriend is now a new fan. We’ll see you next year…

A side note: I talked to Dweezil after the show about a web site I came across recently. The band Phish has a site dedicated to their vault of live soundboard recordings ("livephish"), where fans can hear samples and download tracks and/or entire concerts for a fee, a la iTunes, the difference being that Phish makes the profit! I asked Dweezil if the Zappa Family Trust had ever considered something similar for Frank’s vault. Of course, as he pointed out, there is so much material, so little time.
I’m no vaultmeister, but it would seem to me that there could be some real potential for a win/win here: Eventually, the vault will need to be digitally preserved for posterity, and such a massive undertaking would need to be worth the time and expense. Even if Frank’s vault concerts were made available over such a web site slowly over time, even without ANY mixing or remastering, they would sound a lot better than the ton of audience recorded bootlegs flooding the web these days. Frank’s fans would certainly pay for the improved quality and download reliability. Thus, the preservation of Frank’s recordings could be a source of profit for the family trust, making the effort worth it as they simultaneously “beat the boots” once and for all.

Thoughts, anyone?

I'm always floored by the Zappas (and every single member of their band & their family)! I introduced two new people to the beauty that is ZPZ. They were VERY enlightened by the end of the first song!!! Too funny, 'cause all week I've been going off about how great you guys were last time... The only thing is... YOU GUYS WERE EVEN BETTER THIS TIME! PLEASE, KEEP "RAISING THE BAR" FOR MUSICIANS AROUND THE WORLD!!!

To Frank (looking down, from above): I know your spirit is there at every show. We feel it and love it! We'll always love you!

To Dweizel: I've had faith in you from the beginning, that you'd be the one to carry on your dad's (your family's) musical legacy. You are in my "top 10 favorite musicians list", and currently holding the #1 spot... Hope you feel better!

To (mother) Gail: I'm a fan of yours too. Speaking from experience, it takes an artist to understand an artist. It's a STRONG spirit who supports the person (especially musicians) they love through good and bad!
That's why I named my 8 year old child FRANCES GAIL (after you and Frank... NO JOKE).

To all other ZAPPA children: You all rock... I love you all!!!

To SHEILA (the key/vox/sax/"wet-t-shirt" beauty): You are KILLA!!!! I was telling my sister and my friends to look out for you, and I was especially happy to see you back in NOLA!

RAY: Good god, man! your voice of GOLDEN!

JOE T: You took the cake as Joe's mom! You were a relentless drummer! KUDOS!

Jamie: Sweet and smooth guitar... perfection.

Billy: WORK those MARIMBAS, dude! It wouldn't be a complete Zappa show without marimba, and you tied the little bow on top of the BIG FAT gift!

PETE: I want my budding bass playing nephew to see/hear/watch you play, so come back next time, PLEASE!

Aaron: Sweet horn/keys/vox... You were a trooper and badass, yourself!

I can't say enough... except that you guys will have a HUGE group from Thibodaux, LA and Bayou Lafourche at the next NOLA show!!!

I'd LOVE to boil crawfish for you guys, next time or anytime!!! (The real-deal... not the tourist-adjusted stuff...)

I love you all and all fellow ZAPPites! I felt blessed and honored when we left the show! I only wish we could've hung around to meet ya'll this time...
I'm sure you are all wonderful people!

Karen

We drove to N.O. from Oklahoma to see the show. I was blown away. It was way better than I even thought it was going to be. My wife who is a "musical civilian" had a great time, too. Going to try to catch the Tulsa show coming up. I give the N.O. show 2 thumbs up!

this show was my 6th zpz show. canton, ohio in 06 was my first. each show has been it very own unique musical celebration. the band is really playing as a band, enjoying the music to the fullest. joe, you have helped my music skills soar to new levels, thanks. this band is one of the best bands out touring, if you miss it, you have really missed music being played at its best. i am looking forward the vegas, then portland and seattle(home) shows.

This show was pretty wild. I ended up getting way to far out to properly enjoy myself until the Joe's Garage material.

The encore was incredible though! New Orleans is definitely a great place to catch ZPZ as the crowd is a great mix of old and young, and everyone appreciates the hell out of Frank's music. Dweezil had a big smile on his face watching the young people like myself dancing and singing all the lyrics!
