First-- Dear Dweezil & Co: I will come see you play as long as you continue to tour. I was never able to see Frank Zappa play live, and I'm very happy to have seen ZPZ twice now. You folks are clearly having a blast playing this brilliant music.
Hi zappa fans! I was at the Raleigh show with my older brother, and I can only echo the glowing praise already posted
as far as the performance is concerned...however, can I just mention
sound for a moment, please?
I love loud music.
Love it. I've rocked to Soundgarden, Quiet Riot, Primus, and (loudest of all) Helmet. I was lucky enough to see those bands in various venues, all of which had sound levels appropriate for the space. Not so with ZPZ in Raleigh, unfortunately.
Why is it that some of the people who do live sound can't hear? By the time they got to 'Bamboozled by Love', it was nearly intolerable. I had failed to bring earplugs, because I'd never been to the Lincoln Theatre, and I rather naively assumed that is was a
theatre-- maybe not as grand as the Warner where I saw ZPZ in DC a couple of years ago, but something with seats, decent acoustics, etc. Dweezil's white strat was making the floor rumble during the verses in 'Bamboozled', and I don't mean in a good way. I was about 15 feet from the stage, and I circulated a bit, and things improved only marginally.
The poor sound didn't ruin the show for me, but it made it a somewhat frustrating experience. Next time I'll bring earplugs.
