This was my first Zappa experience, but after this show I can say with 100% certainty it will not be my last. I came into the show with only vague familiarity with the music of Frank Zappa, though I was familiar with his legacy and widely-known overall musical talent.

Generally I can't really get into/enjoy a show if I don't know at least a few of the tunes that are being played (I did not know any of the songs played at the show), but from the first moment of this show I knew that would not be an issue on this night. This band is absolutely phenomenal! It's clear they take seriously what they're doing, but are also able to have a great deal of fun on stage.

I attended this show with a good friend of mine who is a guitar player and huge Zappa fan, and the show definitely received his stamp of approval as well.

One thing I would specifically like to comment on is Dweezil. Never have I attended a show where you could so obviously tell how much the performer was enjoying what was happening on the stage as much, if not more, than the audience (who I give kudos to as well, I thought the crowd was solid). Dweezil wore a smile the entire show, and many times when he wasn't playing a part he would simply watch the other members of the band with a big smile on his face. It's things like this that make a great show that much better.

So thank you Dweezil and the phenomenal band for doing what you do, keeping a wonderful legacy alive and vibrant, and for introducing me to a whole new world of music I know I'll be enjoying for years to come. Please come back to Milwaukee soon!

me, my dad, and my brother all attended the show last night. this is my second time seeing zpz. they were a lot tighter than the last time i saw them in 07. i thought the set list was great. but i have to say that the stage was horrible. well the place was packed so we got up on the vip deck. and about half way threw the show. a lady i shall call her "mosquito bites" started asking us if we worked for potawatomi which was obvious we didnt seeing how we were the only people on the deck enjoying the show. so we tried to blow her off and just continue enjoying the show. but they they got the secuitity guard that let us up on the deck come get us off. so then some words were exchanged and alittle shoving, but instead of dealing with the milwaukee police we left the deck. but we couldnt go without seeing the rest of the show so we found a way back. and just so the potawatomi workers know. they have a nice puddle of piss on there deck now thanks to me.

Took my 14 year old son and a friend to the Summerfest show last night. Our first ZPZ show. Based on many of the reviews of past shows we all had high expectations regarding the experience. We were not disappointed! I saw Frank many times back in the 80's and still regard those shows as some of my top concerts of all time (the double bill w/Jerry Garcia opening in Chicago was unbelievable).

The music was recreated quite accurately and obvious attention was payed to the details! The evening was a great escape from the musical drivel that is today's popular music scene. Loved the guitar solos. The spirit of Frank was very evident in the solos but Dweezil also had his own thing going (he's more precise than Frank was on guitar solos in my opinion-no dig on Frank!). Dweezil did look like he was having a blast. It was infectious!

Thanks Dweezil for your commitment to the project and bringing the music to the people! I can say that I am now a huge fan of two Zappas.

We'll be back next time ZPZ is in the area.

saw the show last night with friends front center i could write for hours on the show to keep it short d-zappa made a fool of me, before the show i said to my wife that frank made some of the hardest things on guitar look easy and that dweezil looked like he was working at it. NOT ANYMORE!!
To watch his fingers almost effortlessly dance over the neck of his guitar almost like there weren't any strings WOW!!! THANKS Also the stunning woman playing keyboards and sax she can have everything I have the air from my lungs if i could just watch her play everytime she is on stage.

There was alot of love in the crowd last night i hope you all felt it

I've been a Zappa fan for a very long time and my kids grew up listening to great music including Frank Zappa. The highlight of the concert for me was looking over at my 20 year old son and seeing him singing all of the songs right along with me!

Loved the show and can't wait to see ZPZ again!!

I'm a 15 year old FZ fan and this was my very first concert. A family friend took me to the show because he can tolerate Zappa music and my mom can't. But the show was awesome! I sang along with every song I knew by heart (every one except I'm A Beautiful Guy and Beauty Knows No Pain). I was extremely impressed and I could tell that the band has loosened up a lot since the concerts on the DVD. If they come back to Wisconsin, I would surely try to go again. Here's the setlist for those who are interested-

Kashmir
The Purple Lagoon
Imaginary Diseases
City Of Tiny Lights
I'm A Beautiful Guy
Beauty Knows No Pain
Flakes
Broken Hearts Are For Assholes
Bamboozled By Love
King Kong
Joe's Garage
Fembot In A Wet T Shirt
On The Bus
Magic Fingers
Carolina Hard Core Ecstasy
Willie The Pimp
Cosmik Debris

(My favorite parts were Flakes, Magic Fingers, and Cosmik Debris)

It's my first posting here, but the concert was too good to stay quiet.

I started listening to Zappa/Mothers back in the late 60's (an older brother bought "We're Only In It for the Money"). I saw them play in 70&71 while at Ohio State (none of my roommates liked much of Zappa (especially Burnt Weenie Sandwiches).

I had only read about Zappa Does Zappa online until last night. I'm glad I went and will next year if they come back. I just hope they get a bigger stage (so more fans can enjoy the music).

Zappa was great, but the supporting musicians were fantastic too. Sax solos: unbeliveable. I didn't expect two virtuoso guitarists either: Steve Vai was a nice suprise (not mentioned on the promos). And I could almost see Ruth Underwood playing the xylophone way in the back.

Favorites for me included Hot Rats (not Captain Beefheart, but great vocals), You're An Asshole, King Kong and Cosmic Debris.

The whole band made it a joy to be there.

Had a great time at my first ZPZ show. I have been looking forward to it for a year or more now. Got to meet a couple guys in the band while watching Dirty Dozen Brass Band. The show smoked. And unless I was in the john or something I am pretty sure Steve Vai did NOT play at this show. Not sure about the post above me but while Dweezil may sound like Vai at this point, Steve was not at this show. Please correct me if I am wrong.

See you guys in Lansing next week. Can't wait for the full show!

Having seen Frank play 4 times since '73 here and Chicago, I wasn't sure if I'd be disappointed seeing Dweezil playing his old tunes these days BUT I was definitely glad that I went.
Dweezil and his band with Ray White were fabulous! Probably the best show I've ever seen at Summerfest.
Like Frank, Dweezil has made sure that only top-notch players are playing in his band and they all did a great job of re-creating the sounds of Franks music.
I've been a fan of Franks since I was about 13 in '71, have (almost) every Zappa album, now cd ever put out, including many of the newer releases now being put out by the Zappa family. LOTS of cds!
I was with my 24 yr old son at this show and although he never saw Frank in person, he also loved the show.
Now I'll buy the Zappa plays Zappa DVD and hope to see Dweezil and his band again, hopefully next summer at Summerfest.
I'm glad that Dweezil's doing a great job of keeping Franks music going and introducing it to the younger people who weren't around in the days when Frank was still alive and well.
I'm also hoping that the Zappa family releases more live film footage of Franks MANY live shows in the near future (while us old-timers are still alive) as there's really not much out there now compared to what was recorded over the years.

I've been a fan of FZ for some time, and seeing him in the 80' in Chicago was quite the experience. I wasn't sure what to expect at this show. After all, Frank surrounded himself with a pretty impressive cast and the arrangments weren't the easiest to play.

I was blown away. Dweezil has also assembled a very impressive cast. The band was tight and every single note and vocal was right on. And you could tell Dweezil was loving every minute of it! It was great to see a band that was so into the music and not just going through the motions. The spirit of Frank will continue to live on thru his music.

Thank you Dweezil, and thank you band.

I was there Tues. night, and was near the front after the band before them, but decided to go get some water. I met up with some friends and never made it back down front. Big mistake. As soon as they hit the stage, everyone jumped up on the benches and blocked my view and the sound. That was depressing. The show was fine once I found a place I could hear. But after seeing them 5th row at the Civic Opera in Chicago last year, this didn't measure up. I guess it's all about how you experience it.

I saw Frank at the GarZappa show at the Pavilion and then 2 Chicago Auditorium shows in 1988.

I did run into Dweezil and he signed my leg:

I tried to post the picture here, but I can't post pictures in the forum yet.

Dweezil is the coolest dude in the world.

Vai, nor Ruth were playing at this show.

Many speak of keeping this music alive and the benefits it brings to many; but experiencing this ZPZ show on Tuesday night, to me, was as much of a "religious experience" I need in life. My older brother introduced me to Frank's music back in the days of "Freak out". From 1970 through 1988 I was blessed to witness this mastery in live, musical execusion at about 8 or 9 concerts in the upper midwest. Words cannot describe the joy I had seeing all those younger faces staring in awe with perpetual smiles during THE ENTIRE SHOW!!!
Dweezil . . . during the ZPZ DVD bonus interview footage you speak of "not being able to get there" referencing specific guitar solos your father did. The short solo on "Uncle Remus" and the longer guitar jam on "Muffin Man" wear heavy on me and my emotions. I'd like to know which solo you are speaking of.

I went to this show and was not expecting the show of my life. While all my friends were watching Yonder Mountain- I sneaked over just to take a peak at this Zappa thing and couldnt believe Ray White was there in the flesh like it was 1980 again. The band was so hot I couldnt stand myself and joined all the middle age guys singing every word till the cosmik debris encoure. It was packed under the tin roof of the old Sprecher stage and loud as hell but i took in every note and knew i was not going anywhere for a long while. I knew every song except the first. Magic fingers was amazing, and Carolina hard core ecsasty was very obsure. I befriended a guy whos said his kids where wating at the car for him and stayed till the end with me. We were in total ecstasty all night. Dweeizil ripped up the night effortlessly and was an inspiration to some very fond memories of Frank and the boys playing the arena here in brew town so many years ago. I would go again in a heartbeat and rave on and on again.
Dweezil please come to Milwaukee soon! Tabodelic.com
