Had seen Frank in the late '60s at the Garrick in Greenwich Village. Not heard ZPZ until tonight. This concert was amazing - one of the roadies told me he had been the tour or weeks and this was the best night.

When they came on stage a piece of paper was tossed up and D read it. It was a poem to and about Frank and the band and ended with a thanks to D for keeping the legacy alive. As he read those words, he choked up and had to take a minute to regain control. The crowd rose for a standing O.

When D conducted the band and then turned and conducted us I had a smile on my face as big as that stage.

Joe's drumming is a cross b/w Elvin Jones and Paul Motian. D plays every note in the harmonics so I call him the John Coltrane of guitarists. Scheila wailed vocally and sax and Ray sang the lyrics in incredible voice and acted them out with his hands.

Happy birthday Scheila.
Thanks for S&G for arranging the tix with Joe.

Great 3 hour show, my personal highlights were mind-blowing guitar solo on Wet T-Shirt night, crazy version of King Kong highlighting all band members and awesome Slime/Remus/Willie the Pimp encore. Dweezil has become a great frontman and incredible guitar player, played the crowd perfectly. His dad would be proud. Please come back next tour!!!

My nephew and I saw Zappa Plays Zappa last night at The Egg. 3 straight hours of absolutely amazing music. The band was incredible and Dweezil Zappa is every bit the guitar player that Frank was. Period. He is one of the best players in the world and once you see ZPZ, I defy you to think otherwise.

The setlist was expansive, as were the jams. The highlights were many of those I can recall really loving "Inca Roads", the "Trifecta", the Joe's Garage suite featuring a great sendup of "...Wet T-Shirt", and of course the encore of "I'm The Slime/Uncle Remus/Willie The Pimp".

Frank would be so proud of Dweezil. It's good to see that the Zappa Legacy is in such capable hands. Thanks to the band, Ray White and especially Dweezil for an AMAZING night.

My son and I were at the show last night and could not have enjoyed it more. I only got to see Frank once and it still stands out as one of my alltime favorite concerts and as we walked out after the show my son was grinning from ear to ear and proclaimed it to be one of his favorites. After the show we were riding the elevator down and when the door opened Ray was standing there with a plate of food with what else but a muffin sitting on top. We all cheared the "Muffin Man" as he entered, great guy. Thanks D cant wait to see you again.

:D wowee boy howdy!!..WHAT a show! I have had the pleasure of seeing FZ about a half-dozen times. Always amazing. Now I believe in deja-vu! I closed my eyes a few times last night when D was doing some solos and MAN!...it was just too cool. Just wanted to thank the band for an extraordinary evening of entertainment! Quite the bang for the buck! Almost 3 hours of music! Hope you guys enjoyed playing at the Egg. There is now some great mgt. there and have seen some great shows recently. Have a great tour and hope to see you back this way. Obviously with a sold-out show you know you have some fans in this market!
Hope Scheila had a nice birthday here in Albany!

My first concert as a teen was FZ at the RPI Fieldhouse on November 6, 1976; that initial FZ show made an everlasting impression on me; I could not envision life without the joy of Frank’s movies for our ears. The show last night was my first ZPZ, and it was an excellent tribute to FZ. Great musicianship from the entire band, an awesome setlist (Pygmy Twylyte, Echidna's Arf, Cheepnis, Inca Roads, and on and on…), plus a super encore with Uncle Remus sandwiched between two other FZ classics (I’m the Slime & Willie the Pimp). I would have loved to have heard Watermelon in Easter Hay as the closing song for the Joe's Garage suite. Please keep the Egg in the tour schedule for the next time around. Thanks Dweezil!

P.S. It was also very nice to be able to purchase the Wazoo and One Shot Deal CDs at the concert, no shipping or tax.

Thanks tonight for more than just another fabulous show , but for a sudden avalanche of memories of friends and loved ones . These folks are not with us anymore, BUT were huge Frank fans! I found myself choked up as well at the start of the show. DZ , you must have liked the EGGS acoustics as the guitar work was superb. Everyone was fabulous, as usual. Personal faves for Albany, ... Purple Lagoon , San Berdino , and the knockout encore ,Slime ,Remus, Willie the pimp. Thanks again. Music Is The Best.

I am the hugest FZ fan, starting in 1973 when a friend gave me Just Another Band from LA. Hooked. My next album, thinking it would be full of crazy skits and swear words (I was 15) was Burnt Weeney Sandwich. Well, that did it. My mind was blown. Saw FZ 3 times in my life....Montreal '75; Palace, Albany in maybe 77-78 and SPAC in the early 80's.

This was one of the best shows I've ever seen, period. I couldn't believe how wonderful the whole thing was. The band was tight and mesmerizing to watch as well as listen to. Dweezil played amazingly like FZ.

I went with my brother, sister-in-law and nephew plus two old friends from that era and we all agreed it was spectacular. I am thinking of catching Peekskill on Sat. if there are tickets (tickets anyone??)

I stumbled upon this forum and absolutely had to register so I could post my impressions of the ZPZ show at the Egg in Albany. I was 16 when I spent 4 days at Woodstock (in '69 of course), and have attended many a concert since. I was fortunate to have seen Frank perform many times in NYC in the early '70s, once at Carnegie Hall with a 13? piece orchestra. I think that was Oct '71, not certain on the date, those days were kinda fuzzy.

So with this background I have to say this show was one of the best I have ever attended! I will say this was a historic show, because of the atmosphere that night in the sold out Egg, and of course because of the incredible and masterful playing by all the band members. Dweezil, I believe you rank among the most talented guitarists in the world today! The flawless music that emanated from your guitar blew me away, and my 12 yr old son who is starting guitar lessons was speechless in amazement! This is one show he or I will never forget.

The way we as an audience honored you and your band with a standing ovation as the band stepped onstage, even before a note was played, spoke as a testament to how the audience respected your father Frank, and now you Dweezil! We were particularly moved by the impromptu poem tossed onstage that you generously read and shared with us. That added to the magic of the night. I found this quote on your webpage that I loved; "Prepping for the tour has been like preparing for a medieval battle where going into it your sharpest weapon is a spoon. But I'm pretty deadly with that spoon now." Right on man, well said! Deadly is an understatement!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to the entire band for a night of awesome and unforgettable music! I agree with everything already well said by others here. Keep on rocking!! Your father would be very proud. May you enjoy continued success with your band, and we look forward to seeing you perform again one day. We feel honored to have witnessed this show!

Blow away by the performance at the Egg. I wrote the poem in a few minutes, remembering FZ in concert and anticipating ZPZ that evening. I tossed it on stage in hopes that D would read it in private; I am not one for the spotlight. However, I was thrilled D read it to the crowd and was so touched by my words. Thank you to the crowd for their appreciation as well. On the way home I was inspired, thanks to D’s superbly brilliant guitar playing, to add another stanza. I have included the poem for those of you that wish to read it:

Frankly Speaking

Frankly speaks
The whole world reeks
Of perversions and political critiques.

Frankly thinks
That something stinks
Bromidrosis, halitosis, society’s slinks.

Frankly sings
Obscure, genius things
Oh what pleasure it brings.

Frankly know
You’ve got me aglow
His melodies intrinsically canto.

Frankly play
Guitar fingering foray
In rhythm our heads sway

Frankly thanks
From Frank’s followers ranks
For keeping his music ankhs.

Frankly Dweezil
You paint a musical easel
For the audience appeasable.

Frankly I see
So proud and craftily
You carry on Frank’s legacy.

llamamoose, thank you so much for posting your poem. I was hoping someone could reveal the words, and what better way than from the Poet! Well done, my friend! You created a little bit of musical history I must say.
