Did you attend this ZPZ show at the North Fork Theatre at Westbury?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

I have seen each ZPZ tour and agree with all that it gets better and tighter every time. I first heard Frank thanks to my friend's older brother who had just gotten Freak Out and have been a fan since the beginning. Saw Frank and the Mothers at the Garrick and at all the Halloween shows in the 70's and 80's and all the other New York shows (Capitol in Portchester, Palladium Felt Forum etc). Raised my kids listening to Frank and they are all fans -- my youngest son has accompanied me to all the ZPZ shows except last night when he had to be away -- THANKS DWEEZ FOR SIGNING A SHIRT FOR HIM!

I lived in the Middle East 79 -80 and could only take a little cassette player with me and about 10 tapes. Among those tapes was JOE'S GARAGE which I listened to repeatedly. It was remarkable to see some of it played live last night (with Joe's TURN IT DOWN, and HE WAS A VERY NICE BOY, HE USED TO CUT THE GRASS). Well, the point of this post is simple:

DWEEZIL, YOU AND THE BAND HAVE HONOURED YOUR FATHER'S MUSIC AND YOU HAVE HONOURED HIS STYLE OF GUITAR PLAYING. IN SUM, YOU HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT TO PLAY "WATERMELON IN EASTER HAY" AND IT IS TIME YOU DID. NOBODY HAS WORKED HARDER TO PRESERVE THE MUSIC OF FRANK - A MUSICAL GENIUS.

I have third row tickets for Halloween with my son. I really hope that you will play WATERMELON IN EASTER HAY -- we all deserve it.

What a wonderful performance and terrific venue! The sound was spot on!! You folks are amazing!! Thanks to Maryjo and the band for the hospitality shown to my son Alex and I. Alex was thrilled to get to meet you all at the Northhampton, MA show and was tickled pink to be able to attend the Westbury show.

Thanks once again and we look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

Take care and God Bless!

Alex & Paul :D

Once again I find myself in the middle of Sgt. Pepper's Sycophantic Clan, where this band can do no wrong. This is the 5th ZPZ show I've attended, and since 2006 the soundman has yet to do a proper job. DZ's guitar was way too high in the mix, the solo vocals were too low, and he has shown an inability to properly E.Q. the individual instruments in a way preventing the overtones and partials from fighting against each other for the same frequency ranges when the band plays as a whole resulting in a somewhat less than clear tone. This was not helped by the fact that the decibel level was higher than neccessary for a 3000 seat venue in the round.
While still incredibly tight, the band is showing signs of the toll it takes to jump through musical hoops for the last few years. And while it's nice to hear Ray White, the first tour with Napoleon Murphy Brock was a far more energized show.
One might ask why I keep going to these shows if there are all these problems, and all I can say is that I like hearing Frank's music played live. And I remember calling the old 818 Pumpkin phone number the day after Frank's passing when the pre-recorded message encouraged people to keep listening to his music and if you were a musician you should keep playing his music. Although they've changed thier position on that by putting pressure and threatened lawsuits against a number of bands playing FZ's music. The world is a far better place that Bach or Beethoven's family didn't stop symphonies from playing thier music .

I loved the show! This was my first time seeing ZPZ. I was greatly impressed. The musicianship was fantastic. You guys seemed really tight. I do agree with one other reviewer who mentioned the mixing being a little off. At times, DZ's guitar drowned out the vocals. But even so, it was great.
I was lucky enough to see FZ in Pittsburgh in 1988, the best band you never heard. That record has a great Inca Roads on it. Maybe in October in NYC you'll play it?

Thanks!

Darren

I came to NY to visit mom and you were playing so I went to Westbury. Last 2 shows in Houston I saw and hope you come to play a fall show. Request for future: play entire album, a few songs created by DZ. Thank you for making moments in my life which are yours too.

WAS AT THE SHOW FRIDAY NIGHT.3X SEEING ZPZ THE BAND IS GETTING BETTER EACH TIME.ITS REALLY GREAT THAT DWEEZEL IS TAKING THE TORCH,AND KEEPING FRANKS MUSIC ALIVE.I CANT WAIT TO ATTEND THE HALLOWEEN SHOW AT THE BLENDER,GOT TICKETS AS SOON AS I GOT HOME AFTER THE SHOW FRIDAY NIGHT.THAT BEING SAID,WAS ALSO A LITTLE DISAPOINTED WITH THE SOUNDSYSTEM BEING A LITTLE OFF.MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE OF MY SEATING,WHO KNOWS,I AM NOT A SOUND TECH.I DO KNOW WHAT I HEAR THOUGH.I AM VERY GRATEFUL TO HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE FRANK SEVERAL TIMES, BACK IN THE DAY.PALLAIDIUM/FELT FORUM/PIER/RUTGERS,ETC. AND IF HE DID NOT LIKE WHAT HE HEARD,HE WOULD JUST STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG,MAKE THE PROPER ADJUSTMENT,THEN CONTINUE PLAYING.I GUESS THAT WILL ALL COME IN TIME FOR THE DWEEZ.THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT HE IS KEEPING THE MUSIC ALIVE,AND NO MATTER WHAT,I WILL CONTINUE GOING TO THE SHOWS,BECAUSE FRANK ZAPPA MUSIC IS THE BEST ,AND WILL LIVE FOREVER. SEE YOU ALL HALLOWEENNIGHT.

My 5th ZPZ show. I was in the 10th row in this very intimate theater in the round. Great show. Particularly liked Packard Goose, Outside Now and the stunning extended solos in King Kong. Dweezil let the audience choose between Cosmic Debris and Sofa for the last song and I'm glad we picked Sofa because I saw Cosmic the week before and because Sofa is one of Frank's finest.

Black Page
City of Tiny Lights
How Could I Be Such a Fool
Ain't Got No Heart
I'm Not Satisfied
Echidna's Arf
Packard Goose
Flakes
Broken Hearts Are for Assholes
Bamboozled By Love
King Kong
Wind Up Working In a Gas Station
San Ber'dino
Joe's Garage
Wet T-shirt Night (Fembot in a Wet T-Shirt)
Outside Now
He Used To Cut My Grass
Peaches En Regalia
G Spot Tornado
Willie The Pimp

I'm The Slime
Sofa

This was my sixth show to date and it was a good one as usual . This was my first experiance with a round stage that rotates -- didn't like it, I felt every time Dweezil did a solo I was looking at their behinds but the show was still great.

PS. Vaultmeister thanks for the playlist after the show :D

:) I had a great time at your concert in Westbury - I've seen your father many times and met you 20 years ago at the Nassau Coliseum by the soundboard - you were getting up to the stage to do the solo on Whippin' Post. Thanks for keeping up the tradition and thank you for autographing my head at the end of the night. My friends went nuts in the parking lot upon seeing that.

PS: I know that you are not your father, but a little "Game Show Hosting" and audience participation could add another "Frank" dimension to the concerts.

More Silly-ness please. Thanks, Mike LaBarbera

We hit horrendous traffic getting through NYC from Jersey so we missed the 1st half hour of the show. What we saw of it was incredible. Truly amazing. This was my 3rd ZPZ show, 2nd time seeing them here. I love the revolving stage. You get to see each member of the band up close and personal. Even when their backs are to you, you can watch Joe work his magic on the drums and Aaron perform his wizardry on the keyboards. Just wish I could have seen the 1st half hour. Unfortunately, I never saw Frank in person. I didn't get into FZ until the early 80's. Thank you for keeping this music alive!!!

Sorry the post is so late DZ & Crew.....
Again PHENOMENAL at Westbury.....
I showed up after a two hour+ drive from CT without a ticket, & got what I think was one of the last three front row tickets...much to my joy, and spent the night watching you all pass a few feet in front of me all night long... It did kind of suck auditorily, because the trade off for proximity was sound-quality....about 1/2-way up the ramp the distortion disappeared & the sound got crystal clear....I actually spent a few songs up the ramp because the sound was better.....but being up close was a lot of fun & well worth it.
Where to begin?....in no particular order....lest I forget anyone, let me first say everyone was right on the money....I had a ball watching the band interaction up-close...like the kazoo on the edge of the stage....just fun little stuff.....looks, glances, smiles & stupid little shit.
Joe, Fantastic Drums, Billy, Great percussion/Marimba & Kazoo (u too Scheila, not to mention ur RAW saxuality!!), Pete....Jamming...FANTASTIC SOLO!!!, Aaron, also a great solo, Ray, thanks for being there....awesome as always, & of course, Jaime, fantastic...
After reading your blog Scheila, right after you took off your 'Mary Prosthetics' & rejoined everyone on stage & were right in front of me, I felt compelled to yell "More Cowbell!!!"....but wasn't sure it really fit (even though we were in the home of the Great White Underbelly), and restrained myself.....BUT, I especially love you... I used to play the organ btw....I learned on a Hammond drawbar, (not just my own organ ya' know! lol)
Dweezil....just loved it...simply not enough....nothing more to say....at the moment. Much to say before All Hallow's Eve.....
This tour is my first ZPZ as I said on my first post, but there's many more to come. After talking to people on the tour who saw ZPZ the last couple time around, it seems as though everyone agrees it's gettting better and tighter...and I'm a reborn FZ Fanatic after seeing this tour. As I said to you after the show, thank you so much for doing what you're doing & keeping Frank's music alive...I truly admire you for it....even though I've already gotten a reputation at work as a little bit of a jaded freak....HAHAHAHA, who cares???....they just don't know any better...although I'm slowly converting them as well....they can run, but they can't hide!!!!....& I understand you may have your critics, but FCKM....You are to praised for what you are doing & there are many of us who love you for it.
I sat near a couple people the last couple of shows who were so focused on the fact that you weren't your dad that I think they entirely missed out on the beauty of you doing what you're doing...& I may say a bit more about that in my email to you r.e. Halloween...
I want to thank you for being an awesome, most-gracious host and sticking around after all the shows to talk & sign autographs...truly awesome, considering there are those who spit on their fans these days & think that's gracious....just pathetic........YOU, DZ, On The Other Hand.....a MOST gracious host...
I missed Poughkeepsie, which I was supposed to see, but I blew my wad on Westbury, and judging from the posts, I missed a good show & a DZ moment as well.... I regret that....
HOWEVER, I do have my tix for Halloween & I CANNOT WAIT!!! I AM SO PUMPED! I think if there were a time & place to do Watermelon in Easter Hay, it would be NYC on Halloween, and you definitely could do a great job of it I'm sure, and I would be so happy to see you do it....It's one of those songs with the rare ability to actually make me feel something viscerally...I would be honored if you do choose to do it....it's definitely the right place...I hope you decide it's the right time...You'll definitely be hearing about my other picks too...THANK YOU FOR THAT AS WELL...
ok, I'm rambling too much...
THANK YOU ALL & I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN SOON!!!!!
