Did you attend the second ZPZ show at the Morse Theatre in Chicago?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Purple Lagoon
Imaginary Diseases
Zomby Woof
Cheepnis
Peaches En Regalia
Billy The Mountain
Montana
Echidna's Arf
Pound For A Brown (w/Solos)
(Guitar Giveaway)
Yellow Snow
St. Alfonzo's Pancake Breakfast
Father O'Blivion
The Torture Never Stops (First Time Sung By Ray White)
Wind Up Workin' In A Gas Station
San Berdino
Packard Goose

Encore:
Black Napkins
Muffin Man

Bonus Encore:
I'm The Slime

This the set list as written on the stage copies. Zombie, Cheepnis, Peaches, Napkins and Muffin Man were the five songs that won in the audience voting process for the night.

A guy named Frank won the Guitar.

Personal high points for me were my second hearing of Billy The Mountain(with a John McCain reference tonight as opposed to the Sarah Palin reference last night) and as a survivor of actual torture, Torture Never Stops has a special place in my heart. Packard Goose was a surprise and fun as hell. Gas Station got everyone happy. But the crowd really got hyped and into the combination of Muffin Man and Slime.

A few annoying Saturday night drunks were in attendence. We were switched from glasses for our beers and drinks to plastic because there was extensive amounts of broken glass on the main floor after last nights show.

Dweez got off a good line when during a pause, somebody yelled out 'shut up and play yer guitar' and The Dweez suggested that this person's number would not be in the magic box later.

It would be hard to say how spectacular Ray White's imprint on Torture truely was, he really wailed, and had the mood of the song down.

Each member of the band was playing in a different time signature during Pound, which The Dweez explained to us all, and it was a real testament to the collective and individual talents of this group of consummate professional musicians.

This show was louder than Friday night, and it rocked a little harder, but as usual with this band, everyone was completely 'there'.

Dweezil's absolute lack of musical ego onstage, his capacity to allow the musicians around him flow through him without any sense that he needs to be the 'star' continues to astound me. His generosity of spirit is simply a joy to experience.

Looking forward to one more night. And as always, still wishing that this band would start doing shows with two sets instead. But, that should not be interpreted as a lack of gratitude for the work and effort they put out. To have three nights of the highest quality music, played in my own neighborhood(I live less than a mile from the venue) is a treat that I will savor until I take the big dirt nap.

Thankyou to all of the band, crew, staff and everyone whose efforts allowed this series of shows to occur.

OK, the guy who listed the setlist had many things I agree with for the feel of last light show. The combination of Napkins, Muffin & Slime was a gift for busting a move. Wow the audience's respone was fantastic. I was at the sound check & the band was more relaxed & played G-spot, Zombie Woof, Cheepnis, parts of Billy the mountian, Mountana & others. It was great to see them in this way, working out the music praticing & owning their parts. I took many photos of DZ, thanks DZ I know you, thanks for the patiance in allowing me to get show great photos of you playing your SG. I want to see Chunga's rervenge, haven't seen this one since 06. I want to mention how GREAT it is to see you play multible shows in one city. This is so much easier than playing one night one city; & for us we love not traveling every day to see the next show with whatever hassels come from the next venues rules & clamps. Had a great time with craig from St Louis & Mike from Hedgewish. Hats off to the drunken guys who had their drinks taken away from them, way to go on the JR varsity play.
Ok, band members, First thing Joe gets MVP award for last night with billy in second. I liked Jamies & Aarons solos, Aaron I like the 70's piano(rhodes) super jam you wnet into when DZ gave you your solo measures.
DZ, you are such a great guitarist really take your hat off to kicking it out, the leads during Packard goose are so cool. I of course loved the leads during Zombie & your ability to play smoke on the water through the hand of the guitar winner who have never played was also impressive. joking of course. I think you guys are really giving it up to us each night, I feel like I got my monies worth & feel content knowing there is another show tonight. PLease come to Chicago & do multible dates only for now on. We also like the smaller show & are happy to pay the extra money to make it work. Love you guys & can't thank you enough for your commitment & hard work. :D :D :D

Those two guys were sitting directly in front of me, and they really did personify the concept of JV- good call on that one.

Also, just in case you are reading this, if you left your zip-up, black, ZPZ hoodie in my booth last night- I have it. You were standing at the corner of my booth, in the same place two nights in a row. I will bring it to the show tonight, or you can email me at twokats66 @ yahoo dot com to arrange a pickup.

Billy Billy Billy,
I got a new perspective of a ZPZ show by sitting in the front row dead center at the Morse as close to the action as one can get
One can only take in the true musicianship and incredible power & timing this band has. Pete totally mezmorized me to the point where I couldent take my eyes off of him. Being a drummer myself I could totally feel the monster groove that Pete, Joe, & Billy Provided together on stage.
The set was electric to say the least starting with "Purple Lagoon" and "Imaginary Diseases" the select voted in songs included "Zombie Woof" "Peaches In Regalia", "Cheepnis", "Black Napkins" & "Muffin Man" None of which I voted for.
"Billy The Mountain" was truly a treat! it seamed that not only the crowd was totally into it, the band was having so much fun playing it that one could not have a constant smile while singing along, Billy you were outstanding out front !!!!
"Pound for a brown" totally proved what this band is all about when the solos began & Dweezil was directing the band and had every member
playing a different timing all at the same time I was in awe!
Frank won the Guitar and dude you rocked! LOL
Ray White once again proved why FZ chose you to front the band for all the years you were with him
"Torture Never Stops" was a total natural fit for you and was outstanding! not to mention "San Berdino"
Last but not least Dweezil thank you for taking the time to put this band together so that Franks music will live on through another generation to enjoy you blew me away......again this was the 3rd ZPZ show for me this year I cant wait for the 2009 tour.
My only dream for this band would be to put Ray White & Ike Willis back on stage together again or maybe Flo & Eddie for me either would be the ultimate ZPZ
Anyone who has & would like to share photos from the Saturday show I would love to recieve them
Shelia you will always rock!
Dweezil, Ray, Shelia, Pete, Billy, Jamie, Joe, Aaron,I knew you were back there somewhere oh yea cool sweater and hat!
Thank You all
Mike From Milwaukee

I have posted YouTube videos from the show on Sat, 10/18/08. I am a guitarist, so all of the clips are focused on Dweezil... no offense to the rest of the band, as the musianship is absolutely incredible! To see clips, go to YouTube and search: Zappa Plays Zappa Morse Theatre 10/18/08. The Morse Theatre was a great venue for acoustics (please play here again next year)... there is not a bad seat in the house with 250 capacity.

Clips include:
Pound For A Brown
Peaches En Regalia
Cheepnis (part 1)
Cheepnis (solo)
The Torture Never Stops (part 1)
The Tortune Never Stops (solo)
St. Alfonso
Zomby Woof (solo)
Frank (Hagstrom Winner) Smoke On the Water
Yellow Snow

Anyone get a good photo of Dweezil's pedal board? I saw a boss tuner and Eventide Delay (incredible pedal), along with some volume pedals and a wah. I am curious if he is running through a Bradshaw box to control his stomp boxes (distortion, phase, flanger, etc.) - it looked like a true bipass control board, but I couldn't tell what specific effects it was triggering.

Could not agree with you more!!!

All I know is that there is some 'bad blood' between Ike and the Zappa family and I have no clear understanding why...

I believe it is because of Ike's association with Project Object and the leader of that band Andre...who apparently insists on being vile and pernicious.

Yeah, kind of figured that. It's really too bad. Hearing Ike and Ray do Sharleena would be the the sh*t! Andre is lame but Ike was at least trying to bring us some good live music since no one else was. "Apparently there was no law against that..."

BTW...I have some awesome pics from this show that I want to post but I have to have over 10 total posts and wait a week before I can attach images.

Stay tuned...

This was my third ZPZ show, and each year the band and Dweezil gets better. It's obvious that everyone involved is working very hard. The initmate club was just great. It really had a nice vibe with everyone being so happy to be there. Billy The Mountain was a treat! I'd also like to thank Dweezil for the help playing; as one can imagine, I was just a little freaked to have won the drawing.

Spooky,

Do you have any pictures of the guitar give-away? I would appreciate any you could spare.

Frank
