Did you attend the SECOND ZPZ show at the Roxy in West Hollywood, CA?

Dweezil and the band love reading your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

We saw Glynn before the show and he said there would be an incredible set list tonight.

He was right.

Night two rocked harder than night one. Hard to imagine that the intensity can keep building, but it does.

Here's how it went:

Treacherous Cretins
Andy
Magic Fingers
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy*
Billy The Mountain
Duprees Paradise - Band Solos (first time a circus riff from Aaron, Jamie gets Cat Scratch Fever!))
Guitar Giveaway
Inca Roads*
I'm a Beautiful Guy
Beauty Knows No Pain
Joe's Garage
San Berdino
Peaches en Regalia*
I'm The Slime
Lonely Little Girl
The Torture Never Stops

Encore:
Camarillo Brillo
Black Napkins
Muffin Man*

Never did get to see Frank play, but feel like this is DAMN close. Miss the sound of his voice, but other than that, when I close my eyes, I'd swear he is there...
Went Wednesday and Thursday. Blown down by the generosity of (and access to) the band. Like seeing them in my living room with four hundred of my best friends I haven't met yet. Aaron (Weds) and Joe (Thurs) gave me their set lists which Dweezil was kind enough to sign each night. Also, some dude in VIP laid me on to a handbill which Dweezil also signed. Only way to make the experience any better is to luck into a ticket for Friday and win the Guitar Saturday...
Joe is a monster. i commented to him after Wednesday night "Wow, not for the feint of heart!" His reply: "I don't know how I get through it each night!"
Wednesday night Scheila came down to my buddy's motorized wheelchair and posed (?) for a screen shot (buddy from college days, former monster guitarist afflicted w/ ALS. He's been building an animation of his life in the chair using his Mac Powerbook's camera to shoot shots wherever he goes - pretty cool, because he never changes but the world swirls around him). Dweezil also stepped in for a shot, but the lighting didn't really work for that one (oh well). The weirdness Wednesday was outside the club after the show when porn wacko Ron Jeremy appeared on his way into the Rainbow (nightly skank pa-troll?)
Thursday's show blew me down. Wasn't really prepared to handle Billy the Mountain for a second show... Loved Loved Loved Loved Loved Joe's Garage (oh goody, a singalong!), was pleasantly surprised to get a second Peaches En Regalia, and went to Nirvana with the I Am The Slime, then surpassed that state of being with the absolutely exquisite The Torture Never Stops. Searing guitar, burned into my brain forever.
Working in tv, I'm The Slime seems ever more relevent. Man, Frank nailed that one. Hello World? Please put me out of work by killing your television. It corrodes the foundation of society, especially America, by creating the illusion of entitlement and helping everyone believe they should be Madonna.
Hope I can score a ticket for Friday!

Hello all,
Attended Thurs night at the Roxy with my wife. Flew in from Texas, mixed in some biz in LA and Orange County with a beautiful evening we will cherish for a very long. Dweezil, thank you again. It's an honor and continues to be an honor hearing Frank's music in such a special place as the Roxy. I began listening to Frank in 1974, about that same time Frank, George, Ruth, and Napolean were recording those very special live performances,. and we were there at thr Roxy 35 years later.

I watched all evening what the band members do when not performing themselves. They watch in awe like the rest of us. Ray was laughing and clapping off stage. I find myself smiling continuously for three hours, not wanting the night to end. "Carolina Hardcore" was my flashback and favorite from Thurs show. I attended both shows in Austin in 1975. Driving down the PCH on Friday night on the way to dinner, listened to all of Bongo Fury.

That's what Frank's music does to you. It takes you places you've never been and brings you back all at the same time.

The Roxy, wow. The Roxy in Hollywood. I saw Billy The Mountain and Muffin Man too performed at The Roxy. Never imagined living in Texas I would have the opportunity to be at The Roxy listing to Zappa Plays Zappa.

Thank you Dweezil, thank you very much. And Joe, we're waiting on more from the vault.

Wow. What a great performance, and what a treat to see the band close up at a small venue. And it felt wonderful to be in an audience that loves the music; there were standing ovations after many of the pieces.

There were a lot of great moments. Treacherous Cretins was enchanting. Dupree's Paradise was stunning. The Torture Never Stops was haunting.

It's surreal to hear some of Frank's lyrics performed live; I can only imagine what it must be like to be delivering them. After the line 'Zulch is the auto works', Ray White turned to Dweezil and said 'Zulch?!', seemingly taken aback by what he'd just sung.

Thanks to the band, the road crew, the Roxy staff, the engineers who work on the downloads, and, well, everyone who makes the tours possible.

Wow.
I was the white-haired guy talking to Scheila at the edge of the stage when she noticed your buddy and stepped in for the picture. Thanks for filling in some of the details of his story.

Wow front row at the Roxy right in front of Dweezil and Pete for Zappa plays Zappa! Couldn't get the smile off my face all night, hurt the next morning! Loud, blistering stereo guitar solos were just insane.. and Pete Griffin is an awesome bass player. The whole band is really tight! Billy the Mountain, thank you thank you.. Still trying to comprehend how intimate that show was. I can hardly wait for the DVD. What a memory! Thx again for letting me take your setlist Dweezil! Please keep it up you guys (and gal) ...and play the 10,000 Lakes Festival again sometime, eh?

-D. Nelson

P.S. Sy-Borg.. gimme that gimme that!!

Great show! Well worth the 5 hour round trip. I can't say that I have ever had a band work so hard not only to put on a great show, but to be as true to the music as humanly possible. I saw Frank once in 1974 before I could, at seventeen, truly appreciate the creativity and complexity of his music, and thank Dweezil for being so generous and giving us all a chance to hear some of the best music of the past century once again as it should be. The intimacy of the Roxy is as someone else said like having the band in your living room, only with bigger amps. I also can't say I've ever seen a crowd so blissed out.

Performances were solid all around, but for sheer stage presence Pete really grabs the attention. He is one sexy rock star. His bass solo, albeit short, was very sweet! (Picked up Gryphon Lab's "The Blinded" EP over the weekend. Excellent!) Dweezil's virtuosity throughout was a thing to behold. Few players ever reach their true potential, but DZ seems to be stretching himself every year with no end in sight.

Thanks again and hope I can make the San Diego show in March!

PS When they are ready, can we puhleeze download all four shows??

Any recommendations on how I can get my screenplay read by a Hollywood agent? I wrote a screenplay. I'm looking for suggestions on how to have my script read and evaluated by a Hollywood agent or anyone in the entertainment industry. I do not live in Hollywood and I do not know anyone in the business. Thank you.
