* FZ video playing with the band

I saw the ZPZ 2006 tour in Chicago, then the show last night in Milwaukee. Both were exemplary, yet different! This current tour covers more of FZ's career. Dweezil seems more comfortable this year, especially without the "stars" on stage with him (Vai, Bozzio, Brock). Ray White adds tremendous vocals and a bit of improv, singing about riding his Harley and eating bratwurst in Milwaukee!

As I watched the show, I realized that with all the FZ shows I had seen, 21 total, FZ never played guitar for three straight hours like Dweezil does in this show. It's a remarkable performance, to say the least! I dare say that Dweezil has become as accomplished a guitarist as his father.

All the musicians play at an incredible level. You must see this show.

I was surprised at the number of Beefheart/Bongo Fury songs last night, which featured Ray's vocals. He was terrific, but I was left wondering, "Now, if we could only have the Captain here tonight." In fact, a wish list for the next tour should include Flo and Eddie as well, assuming that Dweezil wishes to emphasize the humor and improv within FZ's performances. Based on read interviews, it doesn't seem that Dweezil wishes currently to go in that direction, which maybe helps explain Ahmet not being on the tour.

Highlights: City of Tiny Lights, Willie the Pimp, and Carolina Hard Core Ecstasy...man, couldn't believe we got that one!!

Thanks to the entire band for a fantastic show! Here's to another great ZPZ tour!!

Neglected to mention in my previous post that three songs into the Milwaukee show, Dweezil pointed to someone in the front of the stage. "How old are you, you with the glasses?" he asked.

When the young man replied "12," Dweezil smiled and said, "Now that's what I like to see...That's some good parenting there."

It was a great moment for spreading Frank's music.

We had the pleasure of playing the bar stage before ZPZ went on. Wow, what an amazing f-ing set of musicians on that stage. Plus the fan base is so cool. There's not a lot of places you can go and know that 98% of the people standing in a crowd are people you'd hang out with. I had a blast.

And Scheila! I don't see a ton of other female performers that I can aspire towards, I certainly saw one last night. She's great.

If you're reading this and haven't seen this show live yet, get out of the forums and into a ticket site and hook yourself up.

Never got to see Frank live but I am a huge Frank fan and I would have to say ZPZ is the next best thing. I loved the show, great set list and amazing musicians. I will go every time they come to Milwaukee. I also took a buddy of mine who didn't know who FZ was and he loved the show too. Thank you Dweezil and Band!

Not impressed with them playing the same exact set list every single night, Doesn't make you want to see it more than once. It should be mixed up so you never know whats next, its too scripted for me.

GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!
There where a lot of high points for me. However "Brown Shoes Dont Make It" blew my mind! fantastic. "Advance Romance" and "Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy" were awesome as well. And then there was "Uncle Remus","San Berdino", " G Spot Tornado"......Hell, they were ALL kick ass! I would see this band again in a heartbeat.
I also agree with "bromble" about Dweezil being an accomplished guitarist.
It was a perfect ending for the show with "Muffin Man". I have seen Frank end a few shows with this same number, back in they day.
To the whole band: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU and stay safe!

While the show was magnificent, I can't help but feeling ripped off. The initial ads indicated "Limited Gold Circle" seating, which I ponied up for (4 tickets worth)---when I arrived at the show, I found the venue had ONLY general admission. So the "seats" I (and others) had paid extra for were non-existent.
Not only that, the three people I was going to meet up with at the seats ended up STANDING somewhere where I couldn't find them. So I wasn't able to enjoy the concert with them.
After the show, the venue blamed the band for this. They claimed the band had wanted it this way; if that's the case, then I sure hope they realize what an inconvenience this was to some of their biggest fans.
I plan to follow up Monday at the venue to get a refund to (at the very least) the gen'l admission price.
This bothered me throughout the entire show, and I certainly wasn't able to enjoy it as much as I might have.
The performance was top-notch, and the setlist was great. But I could have seen the same performance for a lot less money had I known not to purchase the phantom 'Gold Circle' seats.
Any others fall for this charade?

I didn't buy the "Gold Circle" tickets but I was under the impression that the seats on the second level (or balcony) were the non-GA seats. They were checking the tickets of people going up the stairs so I didn't bother trying. I was about 3 rows from the stage right in the middle so I was more than happy.
It was a phenomenal performance, I'd go see it again in a heartbeat .THANK YOU Dweezil and ZPZ! I had a smile on my face for most of the show, I never thought I'd hear this music performed live again (or ever as was the case for many of them). I've been listening to Frank for 30 years and managed to see him twice in Milwaukee, ZPZ is the next best thing IMHO. I agree with Blue Olive Sax, if you haven't seen them, get off the forum, buy a ticket and GO!

What an amazing show! This was my first time seeing ZPZ, and the whole experience sufficiently blew me away. My friends and I arrived slightly late, so we caught the tail end of Dirty Love at the side of the stage and then worked our way into the middle just in time for Black Napkins, which turned out to be my favorite part of the show. I thought that the crowd response was great, and it almost seemed as if Dweezil and the rest of the band were kind of taken aback by the enthusiasm. Dweezil played amazing, as did everyone else onstage. Ray White added an awesome element to the show, as well. One of my favorite moments was during Willie the Pimp, when he dressed up all sleazy, pulling 20 dollar bills out of his pocket.
Overall, it was probably one of the best shows I've ever been to. I'd seem them again in a heartbeat.

In all honesty, the venue owners/managers really suck. I could see them blaming the band. I like how the stage is laid out, and I've seen a lot of good shows there, but the people working at the joint usually ruin some part of the experience for me. From extremely overcharging for beer, then serving it warm from the bottle, and then making it foam so bad you lose a good part of it, to the terrible attitude the security has, I was hesitant that the show would be ruined.

The music was incredible, better than the 3 times I saw them last year. Although, I miss Napolean Murphy Brock a lot. He's one of the most entertaining people I've seen on stage. I brought 2 friends, and neither of them know Frank's music. Both left very impressed. One friend who is a musician said it was one of the top 5 shows he's seen musician-wise.

Thanks again for a great show. Next time you come, go to any place other than the Rave. Any time your bartender uses the following phrase when referencing the alcohol prices "It's strip club prices without the titties', you know you are in a piss poor venue. I paid less for a beer when I saw ZPZ at BB King's in Times Square, one of the most overpriced locations in the USA.

Thus, when the the complaint comes out about misleading sales on tickets, I would be hardpressed to blame the band. That's how the Rave runs the place.

I agree wholeheartedly with bcumings post about the Rave. I have just gotten off the phone with someone from the Rave, who seem to have done a 180 on the problem since I spoke with a box office person after the show. The person was apologetic, and made it sound like the venue screwed up (which I suspected, of course)...they switched halls from the larger Eagles Club to the smaller Rave after reviewing ticket sales. However, they did not plan well on the reserved seats.

The original reserved seats were to be at the foot of the stage in the original seating chart, but once they moved the venue to the smaller hall they evidently went with balcony seating as the "gold circle"--however, NO ONE explained this as my ticket was scanned. I found this out today. Not that it made any difference---the balcony is much farther away than right in front of the stage. Why would I pay MORE to be FARTHER AWAY? (I've been to concerts with that setup, too. The difference is, the promoters / venue let you know that upfront.)

They are offering a gift card to those who got jobbed on their seats (and bother to call), so I guess that's something....provided I even want to GO there anymore.

Dweezil, PLEASE! You said you'd like to come back, so if you do, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE come to a more reputable place, such as the Pabst Theater. (It must have been some kind of bringdown for you guys to play the Chicago Opera House one night, then the Rave dumpster the next night...)
