Did you attend this show at Bank of America Pavilion?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews!

Another amazing show guys. Really. Seriously. It's awesome to hear the music performed with such a ridiculous amount of ass-kicking. You pretty much cannot put on a bad show. Next time around it'd be sweet to hear Mr. White rip through "You Are What You Is". The song or the whole album. Thanks to Mr. Travers for signing my Zappa tattoo. I promise to never wash my arm again. Gross. Please come to Boston again! Love you guys!

This is the third time I have seen ZPZ, but the first without Vai and Bozzio. Frankly (pun intended), I enjoyed this show the best. As others have said, DZ is SO much more relaxed on stage and he also seems to be playing the guitar much more aggressively. Maybe that's the comfort factor or not having Vai around.

Everybody was great and I loved seeing Ray White. Please, please come back to Boston.

More or less the same setlist as the Casino on Thursday with a few tweaks. No Wild Love or Yo Mama, or Montana. Instead we got I Am the Slime. I don't believe the order is correct but more or less it would be something like:

Son of Suzy Creamcheese
Brown Shoes Don't Make It
America Drinks & Goes Home
City of Tiny Lights (enter Ray White)
I Am The Slime
Carolina Hardcore Ecstacy
Advance Romance
Pygmy Twylyte
Dumb All Over
What's New in Baltimore
Dupree's Paradise
Uncle Remus
Willie the Pimp
Joe's Garage
Wind up Working in a Gas Station
San Berdino
PonyBugs At The Dildo Farm Improv
Illinois Enema Bandit

encore:
Cosmik Debris
G-Spot Tornado
Muffin Man

During Dupree's the band had fun making Sheila play all sorts of instruments, starting with one sax, then double sax, then flute with the two saxes, then Aaron's trumpet, Dweezil's guitar, and finally a plastic melodica. It was a lot of fun.

The improv tonite was a rendition of Jesse's Girl with improv lyrics of "Pony Bugs" provided by the crowd (pony coming from my pony loving wife, we were in the 1st row) and "Dildo Farm" provided by Dweezil. Too funny!

Yes this was the same set as the NH show mostly, but no complaints from me. What a butt kickin show! I enjoyed every moment, in particular Arntz messed up a lick on the trumpet and that made me laugh...
I am wondering if with all the Groupie folk lore in the Zappa tradition if Shiela will take me as a male groupie? I think I would even give hand job to one of the road crew just to get to be her male groupie :)

i have got to tell you..........this was by far one of the best shows i have ever seen in my 43 years. dweezil you most certainly can rest assured that your father would be proud of you and the blatantly obvious hard work you have put into crafting your skills. i am still totally blown away by your excellent choices about how to put on a fabulous guitar show. i saw rush and roger waters recently and loved both shows. i can gladly and enthusiastically put you in the same catergory. that is ....bands i'll absolutely see again and tell everyone i know that they aint seen squat until they've seen your show. i cant wait to go again. come back soon and feel free to make this tour an album because i'd buy a copy for me and anybody else i know in a motherfuckin heartbeat! god it was awesome. ZAPPA music is no doubt ....the best.

What a difference a year makes! When I saw the ZPZ tour last year at the Orpheum, I thoroughly enjoyed the show, but came away 'unimpressed'. I think my comment was 'Dweezil isn't his Dad onstage.' Well, after last night's show, I am impressed, and the truth is he doesn't have to be. The Zappa is dead, long live the new Zappa! Dweezil really acted a lot more confident, conducting the band in his own vision, and the work he's done studying FZ's playing style and relearning his own technique (documented in Guitar Player magazine?) has really brought his soloing to an awe-inspiring level. For those of us who were fortunate enough to be around to see the FZ bands in the 60's - 80's, the musical vignettes where the band 'jams with Frank' (who appears on the big screen behind the band) were great reminders of the man's genius, and highlighted how well Dweezil and the band carry on his musical legacy. OK, enough of the newspaper review... The set list was essentially the same described by 'shortliver' from the Hampton show. The band kicked ass! Ray White delivered a great vocal on Enema Bandit, and Sheila Gonzales had a moment where whe was 'forced' to play TWO saxophones and flute at the same time, followed by a heaping on of other instruments. Speaking of Sheila, I don't think I've seen a show in the last ten years where someone looked like they were having as much fun, or getting as much sheer joy out of the music as Sheila does. Rock on, girl! Anyway, my thanks to DZ and the band for a great evening of music. Last, I'd like to add my voice to that of 'groucho44'... Bring back Ike Willis!

Fantastic performance. It doesn't hurt that I bought 4 tix on "ten dollar Tuesday" for cheap seats, brought my two boys & their friend and 1/2 way thru the show a guy gave us his 4 VIP tix 3rd row center stage!

Very tight band with huge talent and great stage presence. One of the hardest working bass players I've ever seen. It's obvious the band loves what they're doing. I thought the "simulcast" with Frank was a great touch.

Hats off to Dweezil.

But last night....last night was amazing! DZ...unreal! your solos creshendo to the pinacle of WOW!!!!!

Your band was great....very comfortable chemistry...giving everyone a little moment during 'Dupre's' showed us all the hidden talent of your friends.

In 93' I thought it was gone forever...No more,

When I shook your hand last night, I said 'Thank you'....really, thank you for preserving something that means so very much to FZ faithfulls everywhere.

kudos,
Langley

I am a huge fan of your fathers. seen him many times. I have seen many good concerts this year but yours is by far the best. You put together a very intertaining show and although not exactly your father that is not a bad thing you are without a doubt a great guitarist and I can appreciat you for you. Your father I am sure is very proud of all you have become. This tribute to your father was wonderful and I am so glad you are doing it .I was so dissappointed that there was not a better turn out. Boston embarassed itself I hope that you will come back again.I will come to see you play wether playing your fathers music or your own. My biggest regret I did not bring my kids.If you come back I will bring them and as many more people as I can
thank you tryan

Hi Dweezil, your Fabulous Band and all the ZDZ fans

Thank you very much for your diligence and sincere dedication to Frank ... as your father and as one of the greatest composers of all times, Frank is an inspriation to all thinking people.

Several years ago, following getting some positive PR for Frank with my appearance appraising one of his paintings from 1959 on "Antiques Roadshow," I wrote to the Family Trust suggesting that Frank's legacy needed to be preserved in an ongoing performance manner ... and I am so happy that YOU are the leader.

We were at the Orpheum last Oct. to experience the Vai/NMB/Bozzio show and was so impressed ... but last night's show was a spectacle that established you, in my eyes, as a GUITAR GOD .. like Clapton or Frank at your age ... you took the spirit of the arrangements with the influence of Frank's unique styling and made it all your own.

I especially want to thank you for celebrating the 50th anniversary of "Absolutely Free" ... opening with the Suite ... it gave me goosebumps and flashbacks to hearing it for the first time and and many concerts afterwards.

The video of Frank playing along was a spectacular new technology twist and worked flawlessly giving us a very unique opportunity to experience the master and the apprentice expressing the true merging of the generations.

You are a giving band-leader, and I can tell you feel happy on stage ... your joy is on your face and in you licks ... don't stop doing this ... just keep changing the set lists and the players as needed ... the audience will grow.

BTW ....The reason the facility was not full in Boston is because the college students are all away ... including Berkely School of Music whose stoonts bought half the Orpheum theater seats last year.

Thanks for taking the time after the show to meet, greet and sign autographs for all of us waiting ... although some of the younger (drunker) fans were rude and impatient, at least they get the music.

Stay well Dweezil, Band and Crew ... we'll see you again I'm sure.

Your Fans
Gary & Rita

Chiming in a little late, just back from a week on the East Coast ending with a night with ZPZ at the tented BofA Pavilion. (Formerly named the Fleet Pavilion, would that have been even more appropriate for Illinois Enema Bandit?) Fantastic show on a hot humid night in what could be an acoustically challenged venue.

Dweezil and the band are more relaxed and are obviously having more fun than on the Vai/Bozzio tour.

Everyone shines. Joe is rock solid behind his moustachiod kit and adding the right eyebrows on vocals ("don't you boys know any NICE songs?"). Billy's percussion is spot on, he shows no fear even in the speediest version of G Spot. Jamie always holds his own (who knew there would be a twelve string in Suzy Creamcheese?). Aaron is amazing and full of robotic surprises. Pete, wow, he makes the hard stuff look easy and all of it sound solid. Sheila G is multi-talented, horns, keys, vocals, big Trixie hair, and dancing.

Ray White: pipes like it was still 1976. Man, he can bring it all, from Tiny Lites to Enema Bandit.

Dweezil's engages the audience more now than on last tour, and we hear more from him in vocals as well. His solos brought people to their feet.

Here's a slightly adjusted Boston set list:

Noise intro
Suzy Cream Cheese
Brown Shoes
America Drinks and Goes Home (bologna and lobster sandwiches)
City of Tiny Lights (enter Ray White)
I’m The Slime (1st time this tour, thanks Aaron!)
Carolina Hard Core Ecstasy
Advance Romance
Dumb All Over (video Frank vocal and solo)
What’s New in Baltimore?
Pygmy Twilight (Quaalude Thunder version)
Dupree’s Paradise variations (Jamie rips Packard Goose solo, Scheila plays almost everything in Drowning Witch mode, Ray vamps “dildo horse” to Jessie’s Girl)
Uncle Remus
Willie The Pimp (huge crowd reaction, Dweezil demonstrates the modified jumping jack one audience member was doing)
Joe’s Garage (Scheila and Pete dancing to "the white zone is for...")
Wind Up Workin’ in a Gas Station
San Ber’dino
Illinois Enema Bandit
(encores)
Cosmik Debris (video FZ vocal , rhythm behind Dweezil and solo)
G Spot Tornado
Muffin Man (video FZ solo from Baby Snakes)

Wild Love and Yo Mama had appeared on printed set list but not played. Dunno why, but I sure didn't feel short changed.

In the merchandise department there is now a CD of Dub Room Special available on the tour.

Thanks again Dweezil for keeping Frank's music out there. See you on the left coast!

I've been living in China for a couple years now, and I just came back to Massachusetts for a vacation. I'm so glad my trip home corresponded with the show. This was more or less the first big rock concert I've ever attended. It was great, and the band's enthusiasm was infectious. My girlfriend came with me only knowing that it was put on by "mustache man's son." I wasn't sure if she would appreciate it, but I risked it and was very pleased to see her enjoying it. She was quite fond of Ray White's powerful voice. For me, It was a great experience for more reasons than the great music.

Unfortunately, my parents were not Frank Zappa fans so I didn't discover his music until I was in high school and Frank had already been dead for a few years. I got really into his music and his personality as well; the way he talked, the sense of humor, his attitude towards life (what I could extrapolate from lyrics and interviews and such anyway), and he really influenced me greatly in those ever-so-important teenage years. Yet there was often a sense of loss associated with it all. Occasionally I would think about how he was actually already dead and it felt very strange because there was that illusion that he was alive on the videos and CDs making music and talking. Perhaps an odd thing to think about, but the mind wanders when you grow up in the suburbs, and I think it demonstrates what Frank Zappa means to many fans in my generation and other younger generations.

There was something about seeing Dweezil and the band up there playing Frank's music live and seeing it unfold for real in front of my eyes. The admiration Dweezil must have for his father to put so much work into learning his music and setting up these tours. It's a good feeling, and I'll be thinking about it from time to time for a long time I'm sure.
