Did you attend this show at the Theater of Living Arts in Philly?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Thanks,

Mikey

ENCORE:

G-Spot Tornado
Muffin Man (w/BS video trailer 77, vocals & 1st guitar solo by FZ)

Specials:
Great guitar duel of DZ and RW in ‘Advance Romance’.
Cool guitar solo of DZ in ‘What's New in Baltimore?’ using a Pitch Shifter
and unplugged the cable after the song.
DZ told he had in the past always technical problems when he was performing in this particular venue, during a Z-show in the 90s they had to interrupt the show for 40 min.
DZ lost the lyrics (or the melody? or both?) in his vocal part in ‘Brown Shoes Don’t Make It’. He interrupted the song, apologized the mistake and started with the band in-between like in an rehearsal, very cool, that’s live music!
The guitar solo of ‘The Illinois Enema Bandit’ was starting with a huge effected delayed guitar of DZ.
DZ told the story when he has been the very first time with his dad on stage at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. He was 12 years old and was playing the guitar since 9 month only.
I've checked the archive: FZ did one show at 06/18/82 and two shows at 06/19/82 at the Hammersmith.
Hey Aaron, you did the trumpet part in 'Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy' very well today, yes 4 times, you are great. :)

News:
The Live DVD from the 2006 tour is already manufactured and will be released in about one month, Dweezil announced.

This was the 3rd show of the 2007 tour I attended and it was great, very cool venue, standing room, dancing room, dancing fool :)
I had a quick talk with Joe before the show, thank you Mr. Vaultmeister. Keep the greatest music ever still alive on stage and please go on with new releases of the UMRK (I love the Buffalo CD).
I will leave the US on Friday going back home to Germany.
Looking forward 2CU guys during the European tour in Sep/Oct.

Wow, that sounds fantastic... I really wish I would have had the money to attend.

Dweezil, please play Philadelphia again next year... I WILL be there. I had no idea about this tour last year, as I would have loved to see Terry and Napoleon, so I'm much looking forward to the DVD. And this year, I just ran out of concert money... but 2008, you will be priority #1. Brown Shoes Don't Make It must be flawless.

3 hours of such perfection seems like a joke, but yet you do it every night. I wish I hadn't gone to the piss poor Incubus show on Monday night and bought your tickets instead.

Cheers, and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves to the fullest of their ability.

Peace,

Eric

I could not think of a better way than to spend a fantastic evening than by brininging my daughter to hear her first live concert of FZ gems peformed by Frank's humble son, the GREAT Ray White, and one of the most talented group of musicians. Hats off to Dweezil for making her first ZPZ concert so memorable.

Hightlights for me were
*Dweezil's solo on Willy the Pimp, WOW!
*Ray's tribute to the "Philly Cheese Stake"
*Side 4 of Sheik Yerbouti - Wild Love & Your Momma played impeccably
* G Spot Tornado - kudos to the entire band for learning that chart!

I saw ZPZ last year at the Tower, but last night's show, on a 100 degree August night, in a tired little Philly venue, with bad air conditioning, was the coolest place on earth to be!

I just happened by the show, got a ticket, and was well on my way into a great musical evening. The band was on there game. Dweezil was incredible. Your FOH engineer has to turn up Dweezil's vocal mike between songs. In the back you can't hear what he's saying. It was like that in Atlanta earlier in the year. Great show, great set list. Long live Frank.

A hot night both inside and outside of the Filmore Philly!
I attended the show with my 3 sons and a few of their aquaintences. All accomplished musicians themselves.
Having raised the boys since birth with Frank, they were familiar with the genre and we smiled and nodded acknowledging the exemplary musicianship throughout the evening as Ian (Dweezil) roared on guitar.
The most gratification was when one of their friends, an excellent guitarist himself, but with an extremely limited exposure to Francis, stood in awe, jaw dropped during most of the show.
I was disappointed that Montana wasn't performed but completely forgot about it after 3 hrs. of continuous music.
The technical skills of the group are unparalleled without question, was the best concerts I've seen going back to my yooth in the 60's. Sheila was an auditory and visual treat!
I may even travel to Paris to experience the French version of the show.

Long Live Dweezil! God Bless, and Good Night Frank!!

I really should have taken the bus from NYC to Philly (was at Westbury).

A standing-room gig can be cool in the sense that it forces people to move, groove, etc..

Halloween Baby!!!!!!!!! Oh Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to thank Ray for the chance to go to the show! Tom Johnson
And what a show I saw last night. My friends grabbed the tics and got
in at 8pm I didn't tell Ray I had to work till 9, aahhhhh! So I missed the opening.
I felt as if the show was for my benefit! Not only was I in the VIP balcony but you guys played two of my favorite Zappa songs, "Uncle Remus" and the hard rockin' "San'Berdino!" Of all the songs that the band played with a wonderfully lazy expertise I can't believe I was treated to those two!

The Frank Zappa catalog is huge and if Dwezzil decided to play those then I think he is truly, following in his fathers footprints.
However to his credit I was amazed and thrilled at his guitar prowess. He plays the guitar with a special feeling and understanding for the music, the fans and his own sense of sadistic enjoyment at keeping us strung out on some of the most amazing music of the 20th century.

The Band was so tight and obviously loved playing that it affected even my friends 22 year old, novice-to-Zappa, girlfriend. Although I think she was attracted to Dwezzil, but I'm not going to share that with him. Ray's
vocals and comic timing were a perfect compliment to the ensamble. all the members were having such a good time that I felt as if I was at a party instead of a concert

By the way that crazy arm waving dude crashed the balcony party, and I'll quote him for my departing comment, "I'm having the best time of my life WOOOOOOOOOH!
Thanks again Ray enjoy Mystic Groove with the gang! TJ

Hey Exioq - Nope, I was not the "WOO-Man" you so fetishly described standing in front of you last night.

I was the middle-aged, portly guy that kept holding up the press photo of Frank's 1980 line-up that included Ray White. I loved Ray's response to me - "man, was I waisted" BTY, he signed it for me - right over Ike's picture in the line up.....musta been "waisted" again.

As I told Dweezil, Philly Loved Frank, please come back next year. Great show, and remember to always Crank Some Frank!!!!

I was at both the Philly and AC shows last year. To watch the progression of Dweezil is amazing. He has shown himself to be a fine musician and great bandleader. Each time I have gone to a show you see more and more of his father in his style and abilities. The venue was a little tight, but the music more than made up for that. Can't wait to see them in Vegas on the 18th. ZAPPA for PRESIDENT!!! Crank some FRANK!!!

Yo mama and City of tiny lites were the biggest treats for me. Dweezil and company, you have it down, thanks for keeping the music alive. Please return to Philly next year.

Oh, thanks for the setlist Elmar-- it amazes me that with 20+ albums how much I still don't know...

A GREAT SHOW. It's all I could think about today.

How does Joe Travers play with all that power for 3 hours and make it look easy???

Everyone had a strong performance.

Please come back, I will bring our 15 yr old daughter and 12 year old son next show -- Deal???

This show was absolutely amazing. This is probably the best band you will ever see in your life. The musicianship and passion for the material was in full display. The rowdy and sweaty crowd upped the energy level to new heights. I urge anyone who has not yet seen ZPZ to go to one of these shows. Even if it happens to be within a 200-mile radius of your town - it is worth it. Ray White actually said, "Man, I had a waistline back then" when looking at tlogan's photo. Referring to the fact that he had gained a few pounds since 1980. This really was a barnburner of a concert on a very hot summer night.

Peace, to all you Zappa Fans.
