Did you attend this show at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

The show was spectacular. Dweezil can play! The multimedia aspect with Frank video playing with the band almost brought tears to my eyes. 3 encores, and to top it off, the entire band signed the setlist and gave it to a member of the audience - a 4 yr old Frank Fan!
Carolina Hardcore Ecstacy was Jammin, as was Advance Romance and Illinois Enema Bandit. Having Ray White sing and play makes it truly authentic. The crowd was stoked.
Will be in CA next couple weeks and have tix to the Berkely show, can't wait..

Well I did not think it possible in 2007 to re-create the sound, the feel, the electricity of a Frank Zappa concert like the many I attended over 20 years ago, but boy was I wrong. This show was fucking incredible! My face hurt from grinning for three straight hours. Absolutely excellent musicians...great setlist...a venue that was charged with true fans and those who came to see "what the fuck is the big deel?' Well the big deal is that Frank Zappa's music is alive and well and in the more than capable hands of Dweezil, whose guitar work was so reminiscent of his old man's that I had tears coming out of my eyes at times. Ray White's vocals have not lost a thing since the eighties...he was simply put, wondrous to behold. This was the best concert I've been to since FZ in Atlanta in 1984, just truly inspirational and completley satisfying. Seeing Dweezil and Ray and other band members looking up at that screen with the Old Master performing, seemingly in awe of the man, made me proud just to be there.

When we got to Asheville and pulled into the parking deck of the Civic Center, the good 'ole boy taking parking fees said "Y'all here to see Diesil?" We corrected him , though he said he'd never heard of Zappa or "Diesil". Well wake up hillbilly and stay away from that "hippie moonshine"( the night's secret term)...."Diesil" is one hell of a guitarist destined to make his own mark in the world playing the best music ever created, Frank's Music- Live.

KEEP THIS BAND TOGETHER PLAYING THIS MUSIC (and please schedule a show in Charlotte next tour!)
Thanks to all of you for a memorable evening.

I went to the show last year in Atlanta and didn't think it could get any better, BOY WAS I WRONG.
The show last night in Asheville was truly a moving experience. Ray's voice was soaring, DZ's playing was brilliant, the band was tight and the video footage of Frank was awe inspiring.
As was said before, the obvious admiration of the members of the band when they would turn to watch Frank play was one of the most sincere expressions of heart felt love I have had the pleasure of witnessing.
Without a doubt one of the best shows I have every had the pleasure of experiencing.
P.S. Moving Sheila to the front of the stage is a BRILLIANT move. Her beauty, energy and musicianship is electric.

It was just the night before that I discovered DZ'z group was touring. I read some of the reviews and decided to drive down on the outside chance there were tickets left for the show. The 170 mile trip would have been worth it just to get away into the mountains for a while. As it turns out, "worth it" is a colossal understatement.

DZ! Great show man! I heard you were working on learning your dad's material. That is no easy task by any stretch of the imagination. Your work and obvious love for him really has paid off well. You also share you dad's ability to assemble the finest musicians into an amazing tight band. Keep up the good work for at least another 10 years and I will keep coming to the shows.

Holy Mother of Pearl some 12.5 hours after the show, I am still awake and so very high on what I heard. Plus, after two consecutive spins of the Dub Room CD (which is on sale at the shows, kiddies) ... Now, i am off to listen to disc one of BUFFALO ... JOE TRAVERS rules ... God Bless him and the rest of the rockin' teenage combo ...

Without question ZPZ was the best show i have attended in two decades ... and that includes U2, Tom Waits, Cream, Garcia Band, Johnny Cash, King Crimson, Bowie and the other 100s of shows i have seen, since I last saw FVZ in '88!

Well, hello Mr. Sol (the four-year old) to whom they dedicated a portion of the show, the soundcheck and the secrete word(s) for tonight ... which, by the way were hitherto unknown to the people in this area, but destined to replace the mud shark in our collective and respective mythologies was
Hippie Moonshine. What is Hippie Moonshine? Well, picture this: What if Mort Libov met John Smothers while smoking a high school diploma in the Pygmy Twilight! It is like that .. but different!

In terms of outstading personal faves: The Carolina Hard-Core, the Dupree's Paradise (with solos) and Dumb All Over recieved the highest marks.

Indeed, Music IS the best!

Scheila aka Rahsaan Roland Kirk is now my postergirl ... I will have to take down my lifesize cut out of Ruth Underwood [nee Komanoff] and replace it with another Berklee alumni we like to call Scheila "Speedy" Gonzales.

BY THE WAY THE VERSION OF PICK ME I'M CLEAN ON BUFFALO IS A MIND FUCKER OF ALL TIME

I started a radio program on wncw-fm back in 1993 soon after frank's passing called "frank on friday"...the response was immediate and continues to grow 13 years later. ZPZ's performance last night in asheville was stellar, filled with the variety, intensity and most importantly the sense of humor that makes frank's music so special to us. I saw lots of old friends there who always spent fridays at noon with me as we celebrated frank and his music, and I want to thank them for their good words and kinship. Mostly though, I want to thank dweezil and all the players for one of the best shows I've seen in years...the band and the crowd revved each other up and the result was spectacular! I was very gratified at the rabid crowd response and I'm sure the band was as well.
Please please come back soon...I had to announce frank's death on the air back in '93 and last night's show brought him back to us all in a very profound and wonderful way. Keep up the good work you have taken on!

After seeing the DC show last October, we made the trip to Asheville to see ZPZ, and were lucky enough to be right up front. Damn you guys, we thought the DC show was in our top 5 best concerts ever, and this show blew that one away, gotta be top two or three ever now... you have taken this to the same level as FZ.

Here's my shot at the setlist, I missed a tune or two near the start.

My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama
Echidna's Arf
City of Tiny Lights
Montana
Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy
I Am The Slime
Advance Romance
Dumb All Over
What's New in Baltimore?
Pygmy Twylight
Dupree's Paradise --Hippie Moonshine Edition
Uncle Remus
Willie the Pimp
Joe's Garage
Wind up Workin' in a Gas Station
San Ber'dino
The Illinois Enema Bandit
Cosmik Debris
G-Spot
Muffin Man
Florentine Pogen

The most notable thing to me was how much this band has matured since last Fall.

Damn Dweezil, you were smokin' last night. We loved what you did in October, we were Blown away by what you did last night. Pygymy Twilite, Carolina, every damn song was just fantastic.

Ray's vocals were powerful and sounded the same as last time we saw Ray in the 80s.

Aaron, you were fantastic. Should have seen the security guy, who obviously didn't know any FZ tunes, when you statred on the double wazoo during Duprees.

Scheila, we loved every note. Doing the Raassan Roland Kirk thing was really cool. "Let the Fiend go free!"

Pete, smokin bass, all the way through.

Billy, Frank would have hired you in a second, some fricken fantastic playing.

Jamie, your playing was incredible. We noticed your virtuosity all night long.

Joe, you kept them all together all night. Wow.

Thanks you guys, we felt privileged to listen to you, and can't wait until the next time.

I had the best time at the Asheville NC show!!! As much as I loved the 2 shows I saw last year, the show last night topped them both. GREAT setlist and the playing was top notch. Dweezil's playing blew me away. The whole band is spot on. Major props to Joe Travers who did an amazing job!!! The show was tight but more relaxed than last year which made it just an amazing fun musical experience that had me smiling all day today. Great show!!!

Hippie Moonshine!

I saw last year's tour in Atlanta; as good as it was, it's better this year.

The band is looser AND tighter, yes?

New set list from last year; fine, mix it up every year......and let's face it, this band can play anything in the FZ catalogue; the performance of "G-Spot" proved that.

Dweezil's soloing was outstanding, really inspired; "Carolina Harcore" was stunning.

Ray White can still bring it, just like NMB did last year.

Two wishes:
1) It's my fervent hope that this project continues as long as everyone involved enjoys doing it; there were lots of smiles up on that stage, so I'm thinking we fans can look forward to an extended run.

2) (seeing as how he's playing at StellaBlue this week)...hey Dweezil....how about Adrian Belew next year?

A humble request....more room for Jaime, Billy and Aaron to shine. These men can play! Joe and Pete give the music a great big bottom, Scheila is fun to watch play, sing and dance....it's just a crack band.

Can't wait 'till next year!

...one more thing.

While filing out of the hall, I turned and watched the band members take the time to speak with the audience after the show.

That made me really happy.

Everyone have a great Summer!

I thought I had seen it all in my 34 yrs of seeing Frank and now Dweezil play (this was my 2nd ZPZ show) How can I possibly make someone who wasn't there understand just how incredible this band is? I first saw Frank in 1973 and this was Zappa show # 15 for me and I think it was my favorite live perfomance EVER!!!!! I've seen Clapton, Pink Floyd,The Dead,Zepplin pretty much you name 'em and I just saw THE BEST SHOW EVER.Caught myself thinking on the 200 mile ride home how can this band not be playing stadiums? Then it dawned on me that this band is about the audience and Franks music and probably needs a more intimate setting. Was lucky enough to get to go to soundcheck (WOW) and have front row center seats (WOW) I was the one Dweezil called the "40 yr old" (actually 49) Thanks DZ..If you are reading this and have not decided to go and see this band-GO BUY TICKETS NOW!!! To the Band: Mr Zappa, thank you for bringing Franks music to life, thanks for the pic and autograph and for being so nice to my new friend SOL, to Ray, thanks for the energy and the smiles,to Joe ,Pete,Sheila and the rest of the band You are what holds the music together Thanks ALL

Dweezil was right on when he said Asheville is full of hippies. The town has good beer too. Drove from Birmingham to see the show and will travel anythime ZPZ plays near. Its worth the Roadtrip. On the way picked wild mt. blueberrys on the Blue Ridge Parkway. :P YUM. Thanks for a great gig and look forward to the next time you play down south.
