Did you attend this show at the House of Blues in Anaheim?

Dweezil and the band would love to read your reviews.

Please do not post in this thread if you did not attend the show.

Just got back to Vegas after flying to Anaheim for the show, renting a car and driving back.

SOOOOOO worth it!

What a fantastic and inspiring evening of music, played with great energy, passion and enthusiasm by the band......

Having seen last year's tour, I will say that this had a totally different flavor; instead of the Zappa all-star revue (Bozzio, Vai, Napoleon) it was a BAND, with great interplay and command over the material.

The use of the Zappa video sync thing was more prevalent, and was used very well. It really is like a re-channeling of Frank, which takes the proceedings to the next level.

The pick thrown my way bounced off my palm and was immediately snaked by someone else, is my only complaint.

ROCK THE HECK ON!!!!!!!!! More, please.

Wow! I'm not sure I knew what to expect, as I wasn't able to make the show last year. The band Dweezil's put together is amazingly tight, and some of the jams were spine tingling. It's one of those shows where I'm standing in the crowd, happy that I exist, so I could be there. Some of Ray's portions were especially moving. Also, is there an instrument that Scheila hasn't mastered?

I appreciated that the show almost felt like Dweezil acting as a steward and taking us on a tour of Frank's material. (and wasn't a "the Dweezil Zappa Show!") Sorta like a museum caretaker that doesn't stand in front of the paintings, or simply serving as a conduit to bring this music back to life.

Figuring out now if I should rearrange my schedule to catch LA tonight too...

Great great show. Even better than last years shows. I think Dweezil took some type of guitar pill or something. His playing was off the charts. Only his dad could have done it better and who knows if he keeps this up I might have to take that back next year. The rest of the band was amazing as well. I don't know how Ray White can sing like that day after day without losing his voice. The complete set list is:
My guitar wants to kill your momma
Enchidna
Tiny Lights
Advance Romance
Dumb All Over
Baltimore
Montana
Carolina Hard Core Extacy
Dog Meat
Suzy Creamcheese
Brown Shoes
America Drinks
Cheepnis
Pygmy Twylyte
Duprees Paradise
Uncle Remus
Willie The Pimp
Joe's Garage
Wind up working in a Gas Station
San Berdino
Illinois Enema Bandit
I am The Slime
encore
Cosmik Debris
G Spot Tornado
Muffin Man
I got tired just from typing those 25-songs, I can't beleive they have the energy to perform that 3-hour set every night. Just unreal. Dweezil I love you man. Thank you sooo much for keeping this amazing music alive. If you every want to play golf at Trump in LA just call me anytime and I will make it happen. I can't wait for the Wiltern tonight.

PS The crowd at the HOB in Anaheim is the loadest crowd I ever been a part of two years running.

I meant to say loudest crowd I ever been a part of. My ears are still ringing. But it is a good ringing sound. Thanks again and I will see you tonight at the Wiltern.

I didn't know exactly what to expect going into the show...nostalgia, reverence, a good "tribute" band...what we got was FUN and some incredible music. As somebody shouted from the crowd "Nobody writes music like that", and there certainly isn't anyone around playing music like that.

I ran into Dweezil before the show in the loge, but he was headed down with his son on his shoulders, and I didn't have a chance to thank him, so I'll do that here. The time spent learning the music and "becoming a better guitar player" certainly paid off. The solos were so good all night long that its hard to single any out.

Perhaps the best "review" came from the young lady I was with. A Swiss girl, quite accomplished on keyboards, and all she knew of Frank and the Mothers was their mention in "Smoke on the Water" and the couple of CDs I lent her leading up to the show. If the music has sometimes been criticized as "inaccessible", last night disproved that. There wasn't a moment where she wasn't dancing in her seat or focused on (and enjoying) every tune.

The one question I had, not having an encyclopedic Mothers' collection, and not having seen them since the late 70s, was the apparent Ray White "Albino" improvisation in response to the "screamer" in the audience. Was that, in fact, original to last night, or something I've managed to miss over the last 40 years of listening? Either way it was fun, along with DZ's "albino" references later, and the crowd loved it.

See you next tour..more than once I hope!

Ok...I'll single a solo out...Pygmy Twylyte.. we didn't get the contact high upstairs, but it wasn't needed! BTW, the mix upstairs was much better than downstairs during the soundcheck. I don't know if adjustments were made after the soundcheck but vocals were much better up there.

As far as I know, Ray's albino song was pure improv on his part. (I think evident that it was cracking up DZ and the band as well)

I was three or four rows back in the center, I was the one who shouted "Cyborg!" and said "Thanks for playing some Jazz From Hell!" to Dweezil right after I was recovering from G Spot Tornado..
I saw ZPZ in Minnesota at the 10,000 lakes fest, but this was better..thanks in part to the big screen Zappa!
3 hours of pure unbelievable smokin' musicianship and humor, what more could be asked for except that father and son could play together for real!
Every player on stage was confident and definitly having fun. The interaction with the crowd was wonderful which lent the show the intimacy we crave with the artists. It is so important to bring this music into mainstream conciousness and you guys are doing it! Thank you all so very much for your hard hard work and focus and dedication.. I will be there for your next tour with a huge smile on my face!!

What a great show! I was totally blown away! I have to agree with Pygmy Twylyte as the stand out solo for me. It was awesome. The whole band is incredibly tight and truly enjoying themselves. I want to thank Dweezil for putting this tour on. I never got to see Frank live as I wasn't introduced to his music until just after the 88 tour. I went to the show thinking it would be cool to see but wasn't expecting to much as most alumni are not on this tour. I went home completely buzzing with excitement. This is not a tribute band. This is just the latest Frank Zappa band doing what they always have done best. Play great music. They played all the songs so perfectly. And the vidio of Frank on several of the songs really brought it home. Great show!!
